8 games in most parts of the season is 7-8 weeks. Which is double the time you’d have with players to instil your methods and tactics. It takes a good 3 months, if not more.

Around Xmas, there’s barely any contact time with the players on the training pitch because it’s game-recover-repeat. December 23rd to yesterday was 15 days and we’ve played 5 games.

Again, you can’t have your best players out and still judge his tenure fairly. Haji Wright has been injured for 11 games and is still our top goal scorer by 3-4 goals.

Yeah I know, I’m not calling for him to be removed, my view is simply that compared to what we reasonably might have expected in the timeframe he’s had, I don’t think we’ve seen enough to be comfortable that he’s got what it takes. Yet.

2 games in a row. Really hope that doesn't cost us

You were saying.

Mark Robins was desperate to get him, BTA, let's hope he comes in for him again and signs him for Stoke. 🙏

I'm so glad we signed a striker who works hard but cant finish.

We used to have a striker who didn't work hard but oh boy could he finish. The one and only Mickey Quinn.

If only if only.

At least weird posts like shmees make it harder for the rest of the agenda crew to pretend there isn't one I guess.

It's pretty clear there are two agendas going on:

Those that didn't want Robins sacked and in some cases are bringing it up every five minutes. The other is those that wanted Robins gone, and are doing whatever they can to fluff Lampard every other five minutes.

I didn't want Robins gone and I have said quite openly I think we will come to regret this course of action, but I am willing to give Lampard a chance, because we really don't have any other choice anyway. I still think the players are the biggest issue, however.

To be honest this point scoring is quite boring and exhausting, and I am seeing this forum go round and round in circles.

I'd say that is a false dichotomy.

Tell me about it

I didn't want robins gone but am willing to give lampard a go. We are in the middle of it all.

The agenda crew on both sides will fizzle out sooner or later you would hope.

You are showing yourself up here. If you have nothing to disagree with my post just leave it be . But it's the same old. Laughing emojis and then insults. You have outed yourself to everyone.

Fucking point scoring man.

I didn't want MR gone either, and was frankly amazed how many on here were happy to get rid of him, given all he had achieved with us. Although it can't be proven either way, I'm also confident that under MR we would have accrued more points from the games played since he was sacked. Given his history with us he should have been given at least until the end of December to turn things round, but I suspect that DK also realised that the fixtures until then were kind and MR might actually do that, but for personal reasons to do with vanity and power he didn't want to take that chance as he liked the idea of bringing in a 'name' manager.

Anyhow we are where we are now. For the club to move forward we need FL to be successful. While I'm not overly impressed so far, I appreciate this is not his team and he warrants our support until he does have his team in place, which realistically will not be until the start of next season, from when we can then properly judge him. In terms of this season I still maintain that the players at our disposal should at least finish mid-table and I expect him to achieve that. I certainly don't expect a relegation battle.

I just watched the final five minutes again and was going to make the point about Bidwell - someone mentioned earlier in the thread that Dasilva would have been slaughtered for such an error. I think it was a foul on Lati personally but it was also incredibly weak from Simms just before that, he didn't win the header and then could easily have taken their player out to stop him passing up the line. Fine margins but consistent errors are killing us. Just totally deflating.
Really thought we needed fresh legs

It's not the players. It's where the players heads areand the coaching ability. That includes all that has been said in the previous 45 pages.....

Yep those 19 goals he got last season were all off his arse the lucky sod.

give Simms and Wright the service and they are both capable of getting 15 plus a season But how many chances has Simms been given and a striker thrives on confidence not being on the bench every week.

what the wank fest is amongst some on here over Bassett I dont know. He is offside more times than Huckerby, runs around lot without any end product and has scored twice despite being given starts in almost every game since Lampard has arrived.

Whats Kenny Jacket up to these days ?
I don’t think that Simms will be the answer. He just doesn’t look right. I think we’ll see that the goals Simms scored last season will be a positive blip, not to be repeated. I don’t think he’ll be a regular scorer at this level, and he adds very little else, being incapable of holding a ball up. Sorry, I’d love to be proved wrong, but I can’t see it.

Back to the game yesterday and it was a gutsy performance for 89 minutes. 2 key moments in the game-BTA made an arse of himself with that finish just in front of us and Lati needs to boot that ball out of the stadium. If he does that initially and the Ref doesn’t give the foul (as it transpired) the goal doesn’t happen and we walk away with a point which we deserved.

He scored 1 in 3 for Sunderland and scored more open play goals and in as many games as Wright did last season.

He definitely has what it takes.

Agree - the other thing is Lampard needs to be a shithouse and make a prolonged sub as soon as they get their first / get Dovin to go down with an injury. That actually made me more angry than anything on Saturday evening reflecting on the match.
Other teams do it, we are too nice.

Thought three separate changes in added time would have done it before conceding at all

Let's just hope he has learned from that.
FWIW I am more positive about Lampard than most, I think he will make more good decisions than bad in the long term. He will work hard for us, it's in his nature.

In the current game it’s a foul on Lati but if the refs don’t believe it is hopefully the next time an opposition defender feels a slight touch in his back and dives forward and grabs the ball he will book them for handball

Oggy put the jinx on it during his commentary by earlier saying defenders get those fouls given 99 times out of a 100, even though they are buying them. Just our luck that we got that 1 time in a 100 against us at such a critical point in the match 😡
