We need 3 keepers. If 1 gets injured you have no one on the bench. From what I read we have decent prospects coming through but I’d be surprised if we were in a huge rush to jettison Collins or Wilson.

We really don't need 3 senior keepers at all. It's a complete waste at our level. Also there's no way one of Wilson or Collins will be happy not even making a match day squad.

A lot of the reviews I’m reading from Swedes are saying he’s not great at commanding the box or claims. Hopefully something we can coach.

Coaches aren’t as interested in a keeper’s command of the box. Teams cross the ball less and corners are still low % chances. To the modern game, ball progression is king and having a GK to play accurate passes to midfield players is the move.

While this is true in the main, if a keeper cant claim a cross or drops it regularly at the feet of fowards, they will be a liability. I am very excited about this singing and when @Saddlebrains posted a video of him way back apart from noticing his great shot stopping and distribution my only concern was his catching ability from a high ball, he genuinely looked hesitant. Hope this can be improved and he is still young. I am not sure if this is what the comments were aligned to but I would not call this command of the box and more a basic goalkeeping competency.

The Allsvenskan is a pony league, and I don't think that should be played down, but I can't see any world where we spend over a million on a goalkeeper just for them to sit on the bench. Given the #1 shirt is almost certainly going to him as well, clearly Dovin is going to be the starting goalkeeper.

Collins was supposed to be an upgrade on Wilson but there isn't a massive difference for me. I would probably move the former on, but curious to see how this plays out. Three goalkeepers is definitely overkill though.

Wilson plays aswell as he can, Collins doesn’t I’d be shocked if Collins ever played a first team game for cov again
You said Wilson was better than Collins though. He isnt. In honesty neither of these will play many more games for us as thye will be back ups.

Fantastic signing , we will be so much stronger as we’ve been crying out for a decent keeper for 2/3 seasons , I’m presuming he’s decent and a cut above what we’ve got, purely because he’s an international over many age groups

He’s still only 22 so some of his highlights would’ve been when he was just breaking through. If we’ve been chasing this player since March we’ve hopefully done all our homework on him and have a clear development plan in mind. Dovin looks like he could be a really good signing and cheap enough that we could replace him if needed.

Collins got pilloried for a lack of ‘command’ of his box when that wasn’t his undoing - it was pretty needless mistakes. He’s a clear and obvious upgrade on Wilson even with those errors.

In a minority then
If we are running a tally mark me down for Wilson. I'm not sure where this view that Collins was brought in as an upgrade or as number 1 comes from. We didn't spend big to bring him in, it wasn't a big first team player buy like Simms/Wright/MvE or even Sakamoto.

If you speak to fans of his former clubs they were shocked he came to us at all. Wilson was golden glove winner 22/23 and started the season in goal. He had a ropey spell so Robins took him out. He then returned him to the team a few weeks later. Some fans seemed shocked because Collins' stats were 'amazeballz' so why did Robins do it?

Because Wilson was his number one and because he didn't fancy Collins. People forget now but Collins was lucky to get away with a few in his first spell in goal. The end of the season was fairly representative of his career.

As soon as it became clear that Wilson wasn't cutting it as No1 we started courting Dovin. If you are asking me which is the better keeper - I'm going Wilson but both were brought in as no2s and will be fine for that role.

Then I question your judgement.

Go ahead mate. Doesn't bother me. Some people on this forum have always had a weird Collins fettish. Even before he'd kicked a ball some people that had never seen him play before had decided that Barnsley's number 2 was our saviour because clearly the club shared their distain for Wilson. Having followed his career on and off from FGR I'm not surprised we are where we are.

Facts are we've gone out and bought a number 1 which tells you neither are good enough and I don't really care to argue about the no2. But if Dovin had a sudden change of heart and Jarni'ed it my view is that Wilson would cost us fewer goals over the coming season and ultimately that is how I judge a keeper.

I agree... but for God's sake it's fewer.

Regarding goalkeeper, I am just hoping defence and keeper get an understanding, regardless of whether Dovin will "command his area" and come for crosses or not.

I think Wilson kept as many cleansheets as he did the season before last was because the defence knew they had to deal with balls into the area and Wilson will sweep behind.

Both Wilson and Collins are solid shot-stoppers, and hopefully Dovin will be too, but building the understanding with the four/five players in front of you, that's the most important aspect, I think.

I agree with this. McFadzean was absolutely crucial too us during that period, and the period where the defence struggled most that season was when he was injured.

Although the current defence still have to step up a bit, they were much better coping without Fadz. As such I'm hoping all of Thomas, Kitching and Binks will improve for last year's experience, which I think is a reasonable expectation.

Considering you don't want to argue over a number 2 that's quite the read...

The question is, would either be happy being third choice keeper?

I think Wilson will be on his way now Dovin has signed, in fact I wouldn't be surprised if he hasn't already got a club lined up and we were waiting for the Dovin deal to get done before allowing him to leave.

Time will tell.

Hasn’t Wilson apparently bought a new house in the area? He seems the sort that is happy to be a back up, to be honest, despite his ‘day in the sun’ during our play off season.

Collins isn’t the all-round keeper we need, the type to save us crucial games and goals with strong, consistent decision making. Very good shot stopper, but as with a lot of modern keepers, the aerial ability and decisive actions are lacking.

Both him and Wilson should be satisfied with being back-ups in a team ‘on the up’, in my opinion.

Assuming of course, that Dovin is the chosen one, which, in all probability, is likely. I haven’t seen many poor keepers coming out of Sweden, to be honest - it’s a vague generalisation, but I can’t say I have.

My thinking takes into account that Wilson is in the last year of his contract, and shouldn't cost a lot (if anything) to sign.

Collins has 2 years left on his contract and is younger than Wilson and was our first choice for most of last season and was decent prior to his loss of form, so would possibly cost more (?) So maybe harder to offload IMHO.

Ideally I'd bring in a second keeper and off load both.

I don't get the 'we don't need 3 top keepers' comments. We had Moore, Wilson and Collins last season. One long injury spell and we are suddenly using cotton wool

Why keep giving Bell a contract if he's never going to be given the opportunity to even be third choice?

Rachel is also meant to have a good rep within the youth set up.

Even if they are loaned out to gain experience you can always get an emergency loan in.

I don't think Wilson or Collins will be shipped out either way, simply because I'm not sure anybody will pay
