Transfer Rumour Oliver Dovin (10 Viewers)

He is very young for a keeper and doesn't look the biggest? Yes needs to learn to be more dominant in his six yard box. But hasn't had time to learn about defenders in front of him. I have seen him pointing things out to the defence which is a good sign.

Seems to be a good shot stopper.

His distribution is an upgrade on Wilson and Collins so far.
He's bigger than both Wilson and Collins.

I have only seen him on the TV so far, but didn't look the biggest? But not going to dispute your facts.

How big is your TV?

😂 Wilson 6' Collins 6' and Dovin 6 2'. According to Wiki, whether that is accurate or not I don't know? But the difference between the three in height is neither here nor there in reality. Their arms should still put them above a 6' 5" striker

I thought he seemed ok really given it’s his first game at championship level
Yeah he's done nothing much wrong really, looks confident with the ball at his feet, usually distributes it quickly, and appears agile. But we haven't seen enough of him to justify the assumptions on here that he's miles better than the other two, that's all.

So few keepers seem to make proper use of that advantage these days, and it's a puzzle. Get Bill Glazier in to do a few coaching sessions 😉

No disrespect but my mum is miles better than the other 2 and she's 84

How tall is she though, and is her eyesight still good enough to distinguish between a football and a painted circle?

Yes bravery is one thing but just stop diving onto the penalty spot 😂

Agreed. It's assumed he's a big upgrade, and let's hope he is. But I don't know how people are drawing that conclusion based on such little evidence so far. Don't thiink we have seen him come for a cross yet?
No crosses claimed in 90 minutes. 100% loss ratio with him! 100% win ratio without!!! That's like a 200% difference. DOVIN OUT!!!! ;)

From the point of view of competition for places, it's really good that Wilson came in tonight and demonstrated that Dovin doesn't simply have to turn up and expect to play every week.
Be tough on Wilson to get dropped after that performance, keeping our first clean sheet, and getting man of the match, and then getting dropped for a guy who's only made 1 appearance in British football 🤔🤔🤔

I'm sure Dovin will be excellent for us, and will be our no1 for years, but right now Wilson is the guy in form.

Agree but then Dovin wasn't dropped, simply that Ben will play cup games and if / when Dovin is injured, suspended or plays poorly. He knows he's number 2 and we've not spent good money on Dovin to warm the bench. What it does tell us is what some of us have said for 12 months and that's that Collins isn't better.

I'm not really for chopping and changing the keeper or back 4 and would only rotate the forwards, but Dovin back in Friday for sure, although agreed Wilson was motm last night, highlighting that we still have defensive issues.

But if you don't pick players when they are in form and giving m.o.m level performances, when do you pick them?

and what message does it send to the other fringe players?

But it's a nice problem for MR to have, and great that we have 2 keepers fighting to keep the shirt, which is a big improvement from the end of last season.

Form requires more than a one game sample.

Wilson won't be first choice I think . The saves he made were good but the type of save's i'd expect most keepers to save . He's the past Dovin is the future.

It does, but how many players give a m.o.m performance and then get dropped?

That would basically say to all the fringe players, It doesnt matter how well you play, I'm not picking you.
A very low stakes game, and a one off. Dovin did nothing wrong at the weekend, he was hung out to dry for the goal and dealt well with the nonsensical AAATB his colleagues were engaging in.

I’m sure chopping and changing our keeper weekly will work out well in the long run. That’s what all the best teams do…

Give the guy a Chance for F**K sake.
Not sure if this is aimed at me but that was what I was driving at. Dovin is the number 1. His debut wasn't remarkable but he didn't do anything paticularly wrong and people are talking about dropping him? I'm not too worried about him not claiming a cross or two in his first game with a back 4 he met a fortnight ago.

That said I don't get why some people are so determined not to praise Wilson either - he had a great game. Thomas, Kitching and Bidwell all seem to have been identified as boo boys. We've conceded one goal in two games. 🤷‍♂️
