Fully agree who needs Cantona when we've got Wegerle. Well actually we did, Blackburn certainly got the better side of that dealRoy Wegerle didn't live up to expectations and deliver much either
We've been weak there for 45 years - Bobby Macdonald being the last truly good LB we had.Left back was an area we had trouble with. Downs, Morgan, Edwards, Burrows, Sansom. We were weak there for a while
A little harsh on Danny Fox.We've been weak there for 45 years - Bobby Macdonald being the last truly good LB we had.
And please, don't mention Stuart Pearce who only became a colossus after he left and went to Forest.
The 98 squad was bizzareDion absolutely should have been in the 98 squad - the issue I suppose was that shearer would never have been subbed off, so you’d have to be a partner for him….
The others then went arguably would have been better or already established partnerships - sheringham, Owen, Ferdinand, even Merson with his style of play.
shame.
For the division we were in at the time I would suggest Chris Stokes was a good left back. Danny Fox was class tooWe've been weak there for 45 years - Bobby Macdonald being the last truly good LB we had.

Yeah Dan Fox was decent. Difficult to base the criteria on any level other than we are currently, or higher - For a true appraisal of talent. For the division we were in at the time I would suggest Chris Stokes was a good left back. Danny Fox was class too
Only time I’ve ever been hit by the ball was a Keith O’Neill shot. He hit the bar in the warm up and it looped on to me. Spilled my tea everywhere.I remember him coming off the bench in his 2nd season with ( after being injured for over a year since signing)
Within 5 mins he was hobbling off with McCallister shouting dogs abuse at him at the time. He never played again.
I got my hand to one that Noel Whelan spanked into the crowd once. It stung for about 20 minutes afterwards.Only time I’ve ever been hit by the ball was a Keith O’Neill shot. He hit the bar in the warm up and it looped on to me. Spilled my tea everywhere.
David Smith was a bit of a conundrum. On his day could also be placed in the Underrated threadPaul Telfer. Awful player.
David Smith.
Paul Telfer - Strachan's favourite, said he was the best athlete at the club. He was also one of those footballers who has no interest in football outside of playing on a Saturday.Paul Telfer. Awful player.

We tried to sign the other American after the World Cup who chose Italy instead...we ended up with CobiCobi Jones was mentioned on another thread.
Was he rated by anyone? He could run very fast in a straight line, I'll give him that.
Alexi LalasWe tried to sign the other American after the World Cup who chose Italy instead...we ended up with Cobi
Yes. He was worse. We tried to sign the other American after the World Cup who chose Italy instead...we ended up with Cobi
Had a nice little merch range in the club shop.Yes. He was worse.
Novelty signings to boost exposure, I don't think it was footballing reasons.
Wasn’t it rumoured that one of the conditions of him signing was that he wanted to play a gig at Highfield Road?Alexi Lalas

Pretty sure he did his ACL while with us too....??I liked Wegerle.
He was inconsistent and struck me as needing a lot of "Man Management" to get the best out of him. Gould certainly couldn't do that.
Phil Neal got a tune out of him once Gould left during the remainder of that 93-94 season. His performance at Spurs on New Years Day 1994 was immense.
Once Big Ron came in during the next season he was frozen out and left that summer.
John Fleck.Who are the most underrated players during their time here, who went onto better things than they were given credit for than when here?
Wtf??? Was frkkin amazing! But for injuries a certain England starter imoStewart Robson the Wish version of Brian …
Josh Eccles - adored by many but truly a terrible footballer.
Because he's local, he must have a lot of family and friends on this forum brainwashing the majority with their overinflated opinions
Awful player
Stewart Robson the Wish version of Brian …
What happened there then??Stuart Robson was a brilliant player and very good for us. He was a crock when we signed him. But could still put in a magical and energetic 60 minutes for us. He had vision and a full golf bag of passing ranges. He could close people down and do the dirty work.
The fact he was out on the pitch warming up stretching 20 minutes before any other player showed his professionalism and desire to get his damaged body through another game.
Also the fact he punched the unsympathetic and arrogant Phil Neal in the face in Bobby Gould's office, elevates his status even more![]()
Was mostly crap, but we got our money back on him and he gets an all-time pass for scoring just in front of me at Villa Park.Viorel Moldovan
What happened there then??
Always remember a game at HR where Robson had a great battle against Chris Waddle and came out on top
