Transfer Rumour Paddy McNair (1 Viewer)

looks like bollocks anyway, pretty sure this lad has just made it up. ‘Coventry have predicted to be the team that secures his services’. Great journalism.

Whether or not the rumour is legit, McNair would be good. From what I gather, Boro can’t justify keeping him as they have a CB partnership that works better. Doesn’t mean he’s become a bad player.

He played a massive part in their run to the play offs last year and is a decent defender & solid pro. Probably just needs a change of scenery. Can play LCB and RCB. At the very least, he’d keep Kitching and Thomas honest and would be a good role model for them.

Wasn’t that fussed when I first heard him linked but coming round to the idea now, as long as he can accept wages within our structure. Maybe he’d need a signing on bonus.

Think McNair could be exactly what we need - after also being unsure when we were first linked.

Played in the Premier League, loads of international experience, been in the play offs already. Biggest issue is his injury record last season.

Regarding Lati - will depend on how the squad develops but if we signed Stamenic & McNair he'd still be 2nd choice RB, 4th choice CB, and 3rd choice CDM (if we play a 4-3-3 with a lone 6).

He'd still get minutes and Robins clearly likes him around the squad, you need these players.

No chance.

One of the new leaders in the changing room and Robins loves his attitude ….

I agree with his shortcomings as a player but I don’t see Robins in any rush to move him on the cheap ….

I agree he seems to be a great character and have good morals etc but if I was Doug paying the bills and I was also thinking of buying an extra RB and CB (not sure if that is the case obviously), then I’d definitely be considering letting him go. If a player isn’t that great and they’re not needed then it seems a bit frivolous to keep them on our books, we don’t need 2 back up CB’s and particularly one that’s not brilliant. Also happy to keep him though, still young enough and could improve.

Lati is a decent enough CB when he keeps it simple enough, okish cover for a few positions as well. As a squad utility player he is about the level we can expect.
I thought that for a while but sorry you got to call shit when you see it. He was basically giving away a goal a game towards the end and was just an absolute disaster waiting to happen.

He won’t be 3 years sat on the bench though. He played about the 3rd most minutes last season. Robins will keep him as he’s versatile playing in at least 3 positions. He will only move on if there is a big offer for him.
Big offer being £5-£10 million according to a few on here... or in some case more
Also being rubbish in 3 positions doesn't make you versatile.

I like him . Thought he won the battle with Viktor at our place. Not many achieved that
In the second leg he had him his pocket again at the start until he got booked and Vik ran riot then!!

Think McNair would be a decent signing for the right money, leadership that is sorely missed in our back line and squad as a whole.

Lati is poor and should be moved on, not got the height or strength for CB, Hasn't got the speed or ball ability for RB and hasn't got the passing range for midfield, he can plug a gap for a game or two in a few positions but Eccles plays RB and CM far better than Lati and I'd rather he filled in at RB than Lati.

I do find it odd how a section of our fans are so quick to write players off entirely.

Nobody is arguing the likes of Dasilva or Lati are starters but we are trying to build a squad. Both had good and bad games last season. Plenty of players take a bit of time to settle into their new clubs and roles and we aren't in a position to spend like a parachute payment club. Both were signed last season so its highly unlikely either will be in demand or even want to move.

With the limited resources we have we need bring in quality for the first team. That then naturally shifts what we have already down the pecking order or gives them a chance to step up and prove their worth. Can happen that with a bit of pressure and competition a player thrives.

If we can afford it, bring in as many quality players (or loans) as we can. Competition means you earn your spot and gives MR options.

Lati will definitely get better over the next 2 years. When we went on our amazing run he looked the part, but I agree was terrible at the end of the season when carrying an injury.

Could look better as a 6 in a midfield 3 if we move that way - he looked bad in 4-2-3–1 when he was expected to progress the ball but with 2 8’s ahead of him he could just sit in front of the defence and shield/drop in to the back 4 when needed.

lati is too lightweight as a cb in a 4 not creative enough going forward as a rb and his forward passing is terrible in the 6. i liked him as a squad option when we played 5 atb but as soon as we switched to 4 i felt his time was numbered

Dasilva will be on high wages so has to be a starter to justify it.

Not every signing has to work - this one hasn’t - I’m kind of ambivalent to lati really.

He should not be in midfield for any team with promotion aspirations. Closest he will get to playing in midfield is for the u21’s

True not every signing does work, but also not everyone who starts slow is a complete write off.

Either way, like it or not there is pretty much no chance either are being shifted this window seeing as they have probably 3 years left to run on their contracts. They aren't going to have suitors willing to up what they are on so why would they move.

Better we just support them and judge them on their form next season

Not really sure what the issue is with fans having an opinion on players that have been there for a whole season? I have major issues with our fans writing players off after 5 minutes but if I think someone is rubbish after watching a whole season then I'll say so.

Im generally quite happy to have players like Latibeaudiere and dasilva as squad players if they cannot be moved on .. not eithers biggest fan and certainly don't believe they are long term starters

Robins obviously doesn’t agree with you. Only Thomas and Eccles played more minutes so I suspect that Robins and Vivash see him in a totally different way to what you do.

That's OK, even top managers like Robins get it wrong sometimes.

Alan Nixon (sigh) linking him with us

Wouldn’t be opposed to it tbh, decent option and seem to remember him having a stormer against Vik in the Play-Offs first leg and a chunk of the second - Imo that tie changed completely changed when he got booked and had to ease off a bit

Won their player of the season in 2021 and 69 Northern Ireland caps

I probably wouldn't be against the signing either, as long as wages are reasonable, but I remember Bambo Diaby, the prick that headbutted Liam Kitching last season when playing those pricks Sheffield Wednesday, playing a blinder against Gyokeres when we faced Preston at Deepdale, and since Preston let him go he obviously wasn't as good as he was that day.

Robins also had Godden plodding around up front for half the season. I hope we can get £5 million plus for him too.

So anyway this McNair link... its not even real is it?

Yeah, agree with above. Nixon only “predicts” Cov will be interested.

And to be fair to Nixon, it isn't his fault that people didn’t read the worms.
