I dont even know what the going rate is nowadays.

It also depends on the length of contract he's being offered. Is it until the end of the season to prove himself for something next season?

For someone who hasn’t played in 6 months and is 33 yeah it is you fool
when our top earners are on what, 25k? It really isn't. 7k would presumably be on the very low end of the senior players, and Paterson was actually very decent last season. Presumably we're only offering a contract to the end of the season too, so he's got 0 security there.

He’s not even gonna be fit. We are gonna be paying him those wages until he is actually up to speed and an asset for us. You are presuming anyway without any actual knowledge of what our players are on

he was on 15k in America
This is demonstrably untrue - MLS salaries are all published every year as part of the players' union agreement with the league. Paterson was on $534,000 a year, which works out at roughly £8,400 a week. £7k would be a pay cut.

Yet he still gets the whole forum arguing over his bollocks. People just need to let it play out.

tbf he was only there 6 months, so if that $534k figure was just for the 6 months it would work out around 15k a week

It’s ridiculous given he won’t be match fit for a month.

I’m ok with a small starting wage, and big appearance bonuses.

he’s messed us around before. Now he’s scratting around on 0 a week, he’s crawling back to try and get into a relevant league.
It is ridiculous. He should be on an incentive based deal whilst he gets up to speed.
I don't know why people pretend he's some bum, he played loads last year and had a pretty good goal/assist return.

I don't think we're getting a better player than him on a free in Jan for less than 7k a week.

He’s not a crap player and if we were having him from Swansea or pre season I’d bite you hand off but right now? Is he even going to be fit to play a game and impact it.

Offering a lower deal with conditions that improve the wage up and give him a year is more than reasonable imo

If he's not fit I wouldn't sign him tbh. It's possible to stay fit without playing. That's presumably something we've been assessing while he's been training.

Just from his perspective, he's 33. Should still have a few years left in him, but not loads. Would it be worth risking injury playing for relative peanuts on a 4 month contract?

7k till June is only like £120k. Drop in the ocean really, less than the difference between us winning or losing that cup shootout.

You can’t keep championship match fit without playing any sort of matches or on a treadmill

Difference though between fitness and match fitness

The arguments over this one surprise me. I mean they shouldn't as its SBT, but still.
We either don't sign him and he's just been training with us.
Or we sign him on a short term contract that suits us because we've seen him training and think he's still got something to offer.
Seriously, who gives a fuck either way?

I would suggest the fact they only gave him 44 minutes of playing time suggests they thought he did, yes

Either that or he wasn't very good
So you have no idea

They only played 12 games while he was there, you can hardly read much into it.

Jeez £7k a week or £360k a year is not a lot for a professional footballer in the championship. I can’t imagine many, apart from our youngsters, are on less than this.

Not to mention the shorter the contract typically the higher the rate.

This really is not a lot for a half season deal.

He was one of the highest earners at the club and played more for the reserves than he did in MLS. He hasn't played a single minute of match football in three and a half months. At the very least you can read into it that his career has stalled and he has a mountain to climb in terms of fitness - he's in need of a full pre-season.

His fitness could be at any level, you have no idea?

If he's been training with us for a week then the staff will have a good idea though.
