Play with a faster tempo, feed loads of balls to Tats and EMC and although I think Norman is going to be massive for us it's got to be Simms down the middle
And personally I'd still have Dovin in goal even though Collins had a decent game on Saturday and doesn't deserve to be dropped after that performance

Lineup I would go for. Think we need to limit changes to get some confidence and understanding going. To that end only made two changes.

Brought Bidwell into the squad to help us be a bit tighter in the back four/three.

Simms comes into the squad. We have the highest number of crosses under lamps. Let’s get the big target man in to make the most of them.

Same starting team for me. Got a full weeks rest and training. The performance was decent against Hull. No need to change anything.

That's our best line up apart from I would have Dovin instead of Collins. When Wright is back, the best 11 changes again

same team, if they turn up and put in a similar performance it should be the same result

personally would have Simms and Dovin in but dont think either will be changed and always one for sticking with a winning team!

Torp's miles ahead of Eccles on form at the minute imo, so he starts for me. Don't mind the switching of Simms/Bassette until one of them starts finding the net consistently. Good competition. Collins stays in goal for me and you can flick a coin between Binks/Lats/Kitching. I don't think any of them have done anything to be guaranteed a spot but maybe there's a chance for Kitching to come in and show something.

Prefer Dovin in and lets play Simms and Baset up front. Two strikers feeding of crosses from EMC We need to score as we always concede no matter how crap the opposition

The 2 main liabilities need removing - Collins & JDS . They are calamites in waiting. Dovin & Bidwell to come in. I would also have Kitching at LCB but that isn't happening is it ?
Simms for Bassette. Two wingers equates to plenty of crosses. Simms is much more suited to this type of attacking game..

People are being a bit weird about this match, like it's a foregone conclusion. Yes, they lost 4-0 away at Derby in their last match, but freak results happen - such as our 4-0 home loss to Stoke in 2023.

Their last 3 home results have been a 3-1 win against Preston, 3-0 against Bristol City, and a goalless draw against Norwich. Any kind of win at Fratton Park would be a fantastic result.

Looking at the Derby vs Portsmouth highlights they were terrible at defending versus wide players 2 of the goals they conceded were from the sort of runs into the box EMC makes.

Would not be surprised to see a few more changes than people think.
Possibly Eccles for Torp given
a) its an away game
b) fixture congestion over the Christmas period he might rest Torp ready for the 2 home games.

Definition of madness is doing the same thing and expect a different result.

With that in mind I want Dovin back in and Kitching deserves a start alongside Bobby.

Yes I know Collins made some good saves on Satdee(ones he should be saving) but his distribution (esp under pressure ) is appalling.

Binks switches off way too much-loses concentration and gives away too many chances (same for Milan but we ain’t got an alternative!). Although Lati is slightly better than Binks it’s about time we gave Kitching a chance.

The rest basically picks itself.

One minor point is the drop off in Eccles form since Lampard took over, when in reality with better coaching it should be better.

Sheaf also needs to concentrate as there’s only a small amount of sloppy passing that he can get away with once we get some midfield reinforcements in January. (His ball retention is amazing tho).

They've won 2 at home all season and are third from bottom. Not sure we should be turning up hoping we can grind out a draw.

I’m just optimistic about the way we’re playing. In the games so far, I’ve felt our play deserved more with only Millwall having a bit of fortune.

We’re playing well and creating good chances so hopefully we have a repeat of last season when we battered Sunderland before Xmas!

That was one of my favourite games of the Robins era - the yellow & blue kit, 3-1 down and down to nine, the Kastaneer slide, Rose's goal. A unbelievable game
Mine too. If memory serves, we had a goal disallowed before Rose's equaliser, didn't we?

Think that was also from a long throw in from roughly the same place as Rose's equaliser, can't remember what it was disallowed for, though.
