Positivity... Boom! (1 Viewer)

Talking to my fellow Coventry fan depresses me more online than it does in person. We are looking likely to finish in the lowest position in my lifetime in the League. There are serious questions about our owners and (for some) no less serious questions about our playing and coaching staff. Things are 'not great'...

But,

None of us could support anyone else. Seriously. Starting to go to the Villa? Or going, 'fuck it, I always had a soft spot for the MK Dons, I'll start going down there...'. Get to fuck, not going to happen. We are unlucky enough to be Cov fans, we'll remain Cov fans in spirit even if not in person. Such is football - any change of allegiance is a downgrade, if not completely unthinkable.

SISU aren't going to be there forever. If you are anti-Thorn, he won't be there forever either. Bad times won't be there forever. Whatever the division, whatever the circumstances I can see Cov being there 'forever'. A city of over 300k people without a football team. Not on our watch!

I am 30 years old and we are going to win away in my lifetime. In fact, I will have cause to join in a rendition of 'Jingle Bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, oh what fun it is to see the City win away' at some stage in the next decade or two. Who gives if we only reach two choruses before they score the equaliser? It was fun while it lasted.

There will be new playing heroes. We can reminisce about the joys of watching past players (as we would about Keogh if he was sold) and the present may seem downright depressing in that context. The future often no less so. But there will be heroes, there will be goals, there will be results.

Plus, I love getting out of the house on a Saturday. If it ends up in a little drink with my mates, double trouble. I'll have a season ticket again next year. Yes, I am a mug. But I am a novelty Sky Blue mug.

If you post negative comments about life as a Cov fan on this post, you are clever, objective and have been down-trodden and victimised for giving so much. But, for the purposes of one thread and one thread only, you are also a c**t.

Happy noises only. And welcome to the shortest thread on the forum.

Although I am not going to post anything negative - in fact I think I'm one of the positive ones on here - I will have to admit that I am a bit of a C***. Still, no ones perfect.

The view that no one is perfect is teetering a little too close to objectivity for my liking... However, I take unbridled delight in your admission to being a bit of a c-unit. I'm undoubtedly one of your own ilk. Happy days.

I'm always a "glass half full" kind of guy and even though we are bottom of the league, etc I still think that everything will work out alright. Whether it still means relegation remains to be seen, but I certainly don't doubt we will come good one day.

One good thing I found out earlier - Keogh's apparently played every single minute of league football since joining us. That's incredible if true.

where as Cody McDonald has not played a single minute of football since joining us! (apart from the 0.23 secs in took to score that goal)(that was the positive bit)

I have long been the type who starts to think victory is more than possible by the time I am outside the ground. I've lost that a little. Here is my crusade to relocate it.

And AJ, Keogh has demonstrated himself to be a top pro since joining and a top player, particularly this season. He is quick to celebrate towards the fans after victories and no one who witnesses that can doubt that it is genuine. I'm very happy that he is our player.

You tried to find the positive and that makes me happy. Another positive is that we have not yet seen the best of Cody McDonald, ergo the best is yet to come.

Fantastic post, love it, brings back my earlier days of travelling to highfield road with my dad to watch games, oh the 90s were amazing, watching us beat the likes of man utd and Chelsea.

I will be forever Sky Blue.

We will be back!!!

Exactly, my old man took me to my first game at Highfield Road. Then I had several years of season tickets with mates in the West Terrace. Walk to town, teenage shenanigans, top flight football, always a laugh. Am I a miserable git, pining for those days when I compare journeys to the Ricoh? Well yeah, sometimes. But not today... It is Friday and it is time for me to remember good times and to look forward to the next enjoyable (and inevitable) installment.

rose tinted glasses;)

the 90s were good because at least you could go and watch Coventry get beaten while being be entertained by decent teams in a stadium with a decent atmposhpere. as opposed to watching Coventry getting beat by awful teams in an empty stadium like now a days!

although the season with Keane, Hadji etc etc is probably my best memory of Coventry....if we'd have just won two away matches we would've got into Europe i seem to remember

We've rarely been outplayed this season, always remember that - thats why I won't give up til ita impossible to survive! Great post

Nice post. Load fo bollocks though and yeah, I know I'm a c**t.

:)

I think 'negativity' at first glance, then I notice you get 'bollocks' and 'c**t' in the same sentence. And it makes me a little bit happier with the world. You work in ever so slightly mysterious ways, but I know you are aboard the positivity bus also.

Bet he doesnt play every minute of next season

if fact,

I bet he doesnt play A minute of next season

however, on a positive note, we will get 250k for him

I am 27 and grew up near Ipswich, which meant that trips to Portman Road were and still are my best chance to see Cov play. Now, we have a very poor record at Portman Road. I think between 1996 and 2010 we never won a game there. My Dad and I would go to this fixture every time and come away disappointed, including the last minute equaliser that was cancelled out by an even more last minute winner.

So when Boothroyd took us there in 2010, and we hung on to that 2-1 victory my Dad and I celebrated as if we had just won the FA Cup. It was one of my best moments as a Cov fan. And these are the things that keep me going as a Cov Fan.

Agree with about everything Dive.

I am optimistic for a fair few reasons. We have just added a few players, all 3 could be good for us. We have been rarely outplayed this season. We are now in our best form all season(at home of course). There are teams above us not doing much better. Team morale is good considering where we are in the league. Portsmouth look in the shite. We still have to play most of the teams at the bottom. We are due a win away from home :thinking about: We might even be getting another striker in (won't be holding my breath though) We still have 54 points to play for.

And finally, the main reason for my disillusional views. I have been going to games for over 30 years now. I must have seen 30 relegation battles by now. We have looked down many times at this time of the season. We have only gone down once in all this time. Positions can change very quickly. Until we are down we have a chance of staying up.

If we go down it will be a disaster unless it helps to get rid of SISU and get football people in running our club. Also, we will be able to go to grounds we have never been before. We will be able to stand like we used to. The atmosphere will be great.

When George Curtis and John Sillett were appointed as managers the Cov Telegraph heavily criticized the decision stating that it showed a lack of ambition from the club. (Those were the days when the CT actually had an opinion.) Most fans at that time would have had no idea what lay in store for them.

For me, that's why I retain hope. You never know just what's round the corner. Yes, the next few years could be yet more crap. But one of these days we will have some success, and boy will that taste sweet when it happens.:D:D

That's a bit like saying it'll be alright in the end, and it isn't the end yet, so it WILL be alright.
