Talking to my fellow Coventry fan depresses me more online than it does in person. We are looking likely to finish in the lowest position in my lifetime in the League. There are serious questions about our owners and (for some) no less serious questions about our playing and coaching staff. Things are 'not great'...
But,
None of us could support anyone else. Seriously. Starting to go to the Villa? Or going, 'fuck it, I always had a soft spot for the MK Dons, I'll start going down there...'. Get to fuck, not going to happen. We are unlucky enough to be Cov fans, we'll remain Cov fans in spirit even if not in person. Such is football - any change of allegiance is a downgrade, if not completely unthinkable.
SISU aren't going to be there forever. If you are anti-Thorn, he won't be there forever either. Bad times won't be there forever. Whatever the division, whatever the circumstances I can see Cov being there 'forever'. A city of over 300k people without a football team. Not on our watch!
I am 30 years old and we are going to win away in my lifetime. In fact, I will have cause to join in a rendition of 'Jingle Bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way, oh what fun it is to see the City win away' at some stage in the next decade or two. Who gives if we only reach two choruses before they score the equaliser? It was fun while it lasted.
There will be new playing heroes. We can reminisce about the joys of watching past players (as we would about Keogh if he was sold) and the present may seem downright depressing in that context. The future often no less so. But there will be heroes, there will be goals, there will be results.
Plus, I love getting out of the house on a Saturday. If it ends up in a little drink with my mates, double trouble. I'll have a season ticket again next year. Yes, I am a mug. But I am a novelty Sky Blue mug.
If you post negative comments about life as a Cov fan on this post, you are clever, objective and have been down-trodden and victimised for giving so much. But, for the purposes of one thread and one thread only, you are also a c**t.
Happy noises only. And welcome to the shortest thread on the forum.
