When did people genuinely think we had a chance?

For me it was the 1-0 win at home to Pompey

I’ll be honest. Not even after Ipswich. Even when it was called off my inner city fan was telling me we’d play on, lose the loanees, and blow it.

Reflecting I thought that but the feeling leaving the ground after the Pompey game was we are going to win the league

Further enhanced by Rochdale away and then Sunderland at home and Ipswich away. Interesting Robins speaks of the team feeling they were unbeatable after that Ipswich game

The back to back away wins at the turn of the year at Wycombe and then on the awful Tranmere pitch. We hadn't got an away win or strung 2 victories together at the point of the Wycombe game and the games we were winning were not by comfortable scorelines. That Wycombe game was the 22nd of the season and prior to that, only Bristol R in match 3 had we won by 2 clear goals. We were in the playoff hunt but at the back of the pack and Wycombe were 9 points clear of us. We got a lot of monkeys off our back with that Wycombe win - an away win, scored goals, decent GD and clawed back the league leaders. The shift in the league table before and after those 2 games was huge.

I told myself that I’d start to ‘believe‘ after the Pompey home game.
After the Pompey home game I told myself that I’d start to ‘believe’ after the 3 tough games we had coming up - Rotherham, Sunderland, Ipswich...
We’ve won it right? No one can take it off us right?

It was an incredible swing and probably no coincidence that the 2 teams who picked up maximum points went on to get the auto spots. The results could barely have gone better.

Wycombe picked up 1 point from 6
Rotherham 6 from 6
City 6 from 6
Oxford 3 from 6
Ipswich 1 from 6
Peterboro 0 from 6
Fleetwood 2 from 6
Bristol 1 from 6
Portsmouth 1 from 6
Blackpool 1 from 6

After we battered 4-1 Wycombe away, I felt we were going to have a good whack at automatic promotion. My mate who was at that game (Wycombe fan) said 'you'll win the league now' after that game.

Beating Portsmouth at home, was when I was convinced we'd win the league, they were on incredible form and we were the better team that night.

For me strangely enough, it was the 1-1 draw against Rotherham. We came back from a goal down against a side who were top of the league, and really we should have won that game. Having been the only team to hammer us all season, we were now the better team.
Incidently our form between games 11 to 20 was relegation form, only collecting 10 points from those games.

It was when i saw possession stats regularly in the high 60% area and realised we were playing a new brand of football for this club, i genuinely thought we had a chance at promotion after the Blackpool game, the win over Pompey confirmed in my mind that we would be Champions, we were simply the best team in the league this season

I said before a ball was kicked and kept up that stance when many on here dismissed it. So yeah....I told you so. You're welcome.

Do you write about football anywhere? Because I love reading your analyses, I’d definitely read a blog or column.

Rotherham at home. Thought after the first half they were the best team I’d seen, after we came back at them in the second half it’s when I realised there was no1 else on our level in the league
