Gibbo 70% agreed with your comments. But the comment on JJ is not fair. In the very short time pre-injury he looked sharp and on his game.Bearing in mind 6 is average, and we scraped a draw at home
Burge 6.5 - two very good saves, not at fault for the goal or the the two easy chances they fluffed
Grimmer 7 - good going forward, but their main threat came from his side
Hyam 6.5 - steady, but they should have scored twice and both chances came from crosses. Doesn't dominate like Davies
Willis 7 - see Hyam, but he seems to have the ability to clear the lines really well
Brown 8 - really good performance and unlike some seems to be able to use his weaker foot. Always felt he could play himself out of danger.
Doyle 5 - Bad error, poor set pieces.
Bayliss 8 - for those of a certain age, there is a touch of Tommy Hutchinson about him. Went awol at the start of the second half, probably because of the knock he received, but finished strongly MOM
Thomas 6.5 - Midfield don't get the ball to him enough, clearly he can beat tier 3 fullbacks. Are him and Grimmer in the middle of acrimonious divorce proceedings? Bad miss
Hiwula 4 - so much ability, such poor outcomes. Poor shooting, a couple of them would have disgraced a half decent parks footballer
Chaplin 4 We've bought a dud. Too slow over the ground, poor positional sense when opportunities arise. Too busy blaming others. A scrambled goal at the end doesn't change that
Clarke-Harris 5 - Puts himself about effectively, and wins ball. Except his shot in the 2nd half, I can't remembers seeing him in a real goal scoring position -
Robins - Hiwula should have come off earlier
Bakayoko - instant impact with an important tackle back, made the goal
Jones - even before the injury, he looked lightweight
We should have won this game easily, but are not going to score goals with these two plus Hiwula as our main strikers. I hope Robins goes to the January sales
JCH ‘man of match.’ Not for me. JCH ‘won everything in the air’...he didn’t get off the ground on a number of occasions. I have criticised other forwards (and midfielders) for not being close enough or not running beyond JCH. he was ok tonight but never motm.

What was the score? 3-0 we must have lost yeah?Burge 7
Grimmer 6
Hyam 6
Willis 7
Brown 7
Thomas 7
Bayliss 6
Doyle 3
Hiwula 1
Clarke Harris 6
Chaplin 5
Completely agree. Don't know what game they were watching. Won practically nothing in the air in the first half. Along with most of the team was pretty poor in that first half and despite one moment of closing the keeper looked disinterested. Better in the second half but never MOTM.

Looked to me like a player very short on confidence. So did Chaplin, but hopefully his goal will give him a boost. It's evidently clear how poor of a footballer Hiwula is. Horrible touch, cannot finish and really struggles to beat a man.

But with Chaplin you can actual see his ability. His touch is very good and he looks alert.
Hiwula looks like a player playing well above his level.
1 and a3Why? Most scored a 6 or 7 - strange remark
1 and a3
Burge 7....dare I say it mr dependable.
Brown 7.5.....His best performance for us.
Hyam 7
Willis 7
Grimmer 7...was obvious he gets better the more he gets match fit.
Hiwula...5....he even got in the way of Bayliss shot that looked like was on target.
Doyle 7....Had one of his better displays, barring that mistake at the end
Bayliss 8....Absolute Rolls Royce. Hope there was no scouts watching.
Thomas 8
Chaplin. 7...how was he MOTM before he scored?
JCH....8 Excellent hold up play, wish he would try to shoot more as he has a lethal left foot.
Baka...7....looked completely lost, but somehow comes up with the assist.
I think we shaded the game as a whole and looked a good team, the team dynamics were excellent. Really good to see us close to back to our best.

Yes you are probably right, a bit too harsh - I retractGibbo 70% agreed with your comments. But the comment on JJ is not fair. In the very short time pre-injury he looked sharp and on his game.
But the sum of the parts is quite indicative and has been a predictor of change in the sideI never normally get involved with this as it's so objective.
We all watch the same game but draw different conclusions because our personal idea of 'coaching' or 'knowledge' of the game varies so much.
You can only rate a player on what his job in the team is and how well he performed it plus did he go above and beyond? brown certainly came across the central defensive line to save Williss a few times for example.
Burge 7 Steady and a couple of good stops.
Grimmer 6.5 Did better and some good defensive work.
Hyam 6.5 Assured but dragged out of position a few times
Willis 6 Not as good lately, turned too easily and missed several headers
Brown 8 Excellent all game, confident, gave 100%, good feet.
Thomas 7 Flatters to deceive as the end product more often fails him, but is a big threat. Should have scored. Faded 2nd half
Bayliss 7.5 Had a good game but too many final balls just not reaching their target.
Doyle 6 Struggled with the oppo's game plan on him. Got caught a few times and of course the mistake. Still offers a lot.
Hiwula 5 Started brightly but never got going. Pull a shot wide when easier to get on target. Slight confidence issue I think.
Clarke Harris 6.5 A better game from him, involved a lot but his vision and end product shows his ability at this level.
Chaplin 7 Ran all day for crumbs. Got to get on the shoulder of the defenders more and in the box. Believe Bako' would be a better partner.
Gibbo, I'm afraid I disagree with you about Chaplin - I think he's got a football brain that's sharper than many of his team-mates, and especially JCH. His flick that put Thomas through for the penalty that wasn't given was brilliant. I said to my (equally ancient) mate last night that he reminded me a lot of Roger van Gool, who was, in my opinion, also so far ahead of his team-mates that he didn't look as good as he should have.I am buggered if I can see Chaplin's ability. He is endlessly cross with other players for not putting the ball where he says he wanted it, when he was not in a good position in the first place. He lacks the basic speed over 5-6 yards you need and seems rarely to think of going to the near post, when that is the most likely destination for a Thomas or Grimmer cross.
Hiwula's misses were not bad because he missed, but the manner of them. However when he had a pass blasted at him from 15 yards he did control it really well with his chest
My main bug bears are that he is too slow over the ground and that he does not go to the front post enough - the latter indicates a not very good football brainGibbo, I'm afraid I disagree with you about Chaplin - I think he's got a football brain that's sharper than many of his team-mates, and especially JCH. I do agree about Hiwula though - I think Robbins should have taken him off earlier - it was clear that it wasn't going to be his night.
I've noticed that nobody makes runs to the post. If Thomas is making a run down the right, whoever is on the left should be making the run inside the box from the left to be at the far post (and vice versa). My main bug bears are that he is too slow over the ground and that he does not go to the front post enough - the latter indicates a not very good football brain
JCH Doesn't even look like he's interested in scoring. Very frustrating, we get the ball out wide and very few players are in the box, and like you say, no one going front post either.I've noticed that nobody makes runs to the post. A good example is Baka against Charlton. We don't really seem to see many goals like that.
If you watch other teams, they always have players following it in. Every time Burton got the ball wide they had about 3 players in. When we do we have 1 at most against all of their defenders.JCH Doesn't even look like he's interested in scoring. It was the same last season too. We seem to be decent on the counter and on set pieces but in possession I'm still not sure what the plan is to score goals. If you watch other teams, they always have players following it in. It means the ball has to be perfect and if not they can clear it unchallenged.
Thomas also needs to put the ball in a lot quicker, he seems to hesitate and take a couple of extra steps that gives defenders a chance to block or cut off men in the box. Like his pace and keenness to keep pushing forward at pace.I've noticed that nobody makes runs to the post. The thing is, Chaplin also wants to play with his back to goal rather than make runs in behind. Two varying types of physical players playing a modern version of a target man type lead role last night. JCH and Toney of Peterborough.
JCH works more back to goal looks to win it and that tends to be him done. Ivan Toney looked to win it then was moving towards goal then either with the ball or look to be a threat again in the next phase of play.
Would you swap JCH for Toney, or think JCH could play that way in this role MR is asking him to play.
I think I would swap
