I had a fantastic beer last night - Milk Foley, by Turning Point Brew Co, a Strawberries and Cream Pale. It was like drinking strawberry jam, but without being too sickly as it was well balanced due to the 6.3% ABV.

I got it from Sainsbury’s, albeit quite pricey for a supermarket beer - £4, but well worth it.

And the can is red and black tartan too - definitely inspired by Mick Foley.

Aldi has overhauled its craft beer selection, 4 new ones I've picked up:

New England IPA
Craft Lager
Vanilla Stout
Double IPA

£1.59 a can

On the NEIPA which is decent enough, certainly for the price

Had a real novelty beer in the week - Shamrock Shake by White Hag Brewing, an ice cream pale and it was green!

It was like drinking mint choc chip - really nice as a one off.

Also had a Witbier, which I’m not always a fan of, by BBNo (Brew by Numbers) called 07, which was orange and vanilla flavoured. Really nice and refreshing.

Time to collect it all together!

Anyway, one advantage of drinking less than I used to is I can go for quality ahead of quantity. Tried this when on holiday a couple of years back and really enjoyed it.

So now I get a case now and again. Their other beers are pretty good, too. Not so sure about the dark ones (not really for me) but the others? They go down nice and easily.

Miles behind on this but I’ve been to the Isle of Skye. My grandmother was from Oban.

Went there on holiday a couple of years back - amazing scenery, good walks, had an atmosphere all of its own... and the one you quoted is still my favourite current beer.

Tonight's, however, was this

Not a huge taste to it, but refreshing. Some might call it bland, but I enjoyed it! I don't like overly hoppy, so it suits me. Went down nicely with dinner.

I went to Aldi following FP’s comment that they have updated their craft selection.

I’ve had two so far, the first one - a grapfruit pale ale - I had to throw away (which I never do!) as it wasn’t great, and the second - strawberry lager - I wasn’t too sure of either. However I wasn’t particularly feeling a beer on either occasion so maybe I just wasn’t in the right mood - going to give them both another go next time I am near an Aldi.

Tonight's is the Helmsley Brewing Co.'s 'Striding the Riding', the official beer of the Cleveland Way, no less! A pale ale, it's quite hoppy and much of the time, I don't like the aftertaste when you get that, but this one gives a flavour, but stops short of being overpowering.

Impressed!

Just had the strawberry lager, shite of the highest order, to think they gave it me because they were out of the vanilla stout.

Belgian month on Beer52.
Enjoyed both of these, but the Witbier was particularly nice. 20210403_211813.jpg 20210403_205039.jpg

Went to an off license a few miles away which had been decent before, pleasantly surprised to see they'd greatly increased their selection:

First one was a Lager brewed by Cloudwater called Eko Gold brewed with coconut palm sugar. It was just a pretty generic tasting lager.

Second, an American Pale by S43 Brewing, decent enough but not the tropical flavours promised.

Got a DIPA a 'Dry Hopped Rye Saison left.

My local is advertising this as one of their beers when they open at midday tomorrow.
Anyone tried it?

No, but I’ve had a few Shiny Brewery beers and found them good if not special - worth a go!

I’m heading to a local brewery pub tomorrow for a surprise on a family members birthday, we’ve got the kids etc so won’t be a drinking session or anything, but will be nice to have a couple of proper ales straight from a brewery tap nonetheless!

If I can get in, I might just do that (they only have a couple of tables on the pavement outside and the place is very popular). It's not a brewery I've ever come across before.

It was packed, as expected.
Might try again later in the week.
