So do you think all pub sides whose game is off this weekend should contact them and see if they can get the game on?
Apparantly the dog and duck in Basildon booked Wembley the other week.
But why isn't it someone like Cov Sphinx? Isn't the Ricoh supposed to exist for the people of Coventry? Surely if anyone should be playing there at the mo it should be a Coventry team.

Who is paying for floodlights, pitch maintenance, heating, initial preparation to get it ready, health and safety checks, hot water, cleaning the changing rooms? The tooth fairy?

Lets be honest for a "premier" league stadium this is a joke. The frantic justifications are comedy gold.
Let's take an objective look at this and break it down for you.
First off pitch maintenance and underground heating will currently be a fixed cost to keep it in condition. This is a sunk cost and ACL will have to pay this if there are teams playing there or not. The additional maintenance costs required as a result of a team playing matches will be built into the charge levied. For this academy club, this cost will be very low as they will only be playing 8 matches and the stress to the pitch will very small.
Floodlights costs may or may not be relevant as it depends on when the team plays.
Other costs are entirely dependant upon the volume of people expected to attend. In this case I would say a couple of hundred at most. In which case, costs will be very low as only part of one stand would be opened. Stewarding will almost certainly be taken up by the academy themselves. This is an entirely different beast to opening up the entire stadium to a League one team which is subject to far more stringent stewarding, policing, H&S requirements as well as the variable costs resulting from thousands of fans versus a couple of hundred.
In any case, ACL will make a profit by allowing the academy to play. It is important to understand that income received will be greater than the increased costs incurred.
As for the tenancy, it is a misnomer to state that this academy are 'THE' tenants. They will be 'A' tenant, as they will certainly not have any exclusive rights to the arena. They will have approached ACL to ask to play there and ACL are entirely correct to allow them. CCFC aren't playing there currently and it is the correct business decision to make.
Cov Sphinx play more than 8 games a season. This is a business decision by the company involved. They will used "The Ricoh" to promote the academy to rich parents looking to get their kids a big break.
This isnt a full time football club calling the Ricoh their home. Its more like work experience !
Yes they do, but why can't they play 8 of their games at the Ricoh? No-one is saying for them to play there every week.
Why not help a local team out? And just think how fantastic would that be for a team like Sphinx to get the opportunity.

They are not THE tenant. You will need to wait as I said !!
So the stewards are employed by ACL and are part of the fixed management fee? Who stewards at Sixfields?

Why are you interested in the shop analogy? Just as he said shop and you work in one? If an organisation wanted a property and a shopkeeper was in it you'd find a way to force him out through legal means and if you have the financial clout you would bury him in litigation until he disappeared. Satisfied?
I know it's only 8 games, but aren't ACL being a bit hypocritical by allowing a Northampton team to play in Coventry, the same season they threatened court action against Northampton for allowing Coventry to play there?
For all we know there may not even be a requirement for any stewards. The only people likely to be attending are parents and scouts, how many stewards can you possibly need for that?
Do Sphinx want to ply there? If they do and they have been told it's not possible then you have a point, otherwise you're complaining about someone not playing there who doesn't actually want to play there. What do you want ACL to do, threaten to take them to court unless they come and play at the Ricoh?!

This saga will never end will it
And why would Sphinx not want to play there?
My guess is that no non-league club would ever think it is feasible to play there. Surely no-one in their right mind at that level would think it feasible. Now some unknown youth team is going to suddenly play there though, then obviously it has out of the blue now become feasible.
Though it's all still very baffling.
Exactly. The decision is baffling at best.
If they are happy to have some non-league team play some games there then they should have at least offered some local team the oppotunity.
How do we know they haven't?
How do you know they have?

I don't, just like you or anyone else on this forum.
Agreed. There must be some incentive in this or why not offer it up to any local team?

Anyone else think Grendel has lost it here? He's making even less sense than usual. Why would ACL pay for someone to use their pitch?
I think it has suddenly hit him that ACL aren't going to just die without CCFC and now his whole world is collapsing.
His ranting's remind me of the scene in that film "Downfall" where Hitler finds out that his troops cant stop the Soviets and as such he has lost the war.

Oh dear. Time to start digging out the old posts where I was told the world class venue would host rugby matches, show jumping, all year round concerts. Anything goes. There are some seriously hilarious posts out there and they will be returning soon.
Just listen to yourself. This is hilarious. So now its not a rugby semi final or the rugby World Cup its er....a few kids in front of no fans. I've said all along without the club there the bowl is worthless and this proves it. Missed out in the World Cup, diminishing number of concerts, no rugby semi finals, no Olympics - since the club left nothing. Why?

Agreed, and could it be that some incentive might actually make good business sense for ACL and the reason that they DIDN'T offer it up to any old local team. which is what you and others have been arguing on this thread
