Russell Martin didn’t reach the play offs with Swansea for 2 seasons, did well with Southampton but they have a good team.

This is why it was plainly ridiculous to get rid of MR so early in the season. Nobody we bring in will be as qualified as he was to take us forward. We are basically relying on DK getting lucky with the next man he brings in.
I can't remember if you were one of the people wanting him out or not, but it is frankly ironic that some of those posters who did, are now calling out any likely candidate as underwhelming or not up to it.

I was on the fence, and I am pretty much the same about Lampard - I wouldn’t say underwhelming or not up to it, but I think for instance Graham Potter or someone of that ilk would have made a massive statement of intent
for every Rooney there’s a Kompany or a Carrick though, and actually Lampard’s win ratio was pretty impressive across Derby and his first couple of years spell at Chelsea so who knows….

Just read an article about why Mowbray was removed at Sunderland in a radio interview oop north. Sounds familiar a new dynamic (ho ho) set up with a Director of Football, an interfering Owner who wanted to dictate team selection and bringing in young players for increasing their worth. Mowbray welcomed some of the burden of all the decisions being taken from him but not the Owner telling him which team he should pick. He ignored the Owner so it was bye bye Mowbray.

Potter has never been promoted or even reached the play offs in this division. Brighton finished higher after he'd left! He won 12 games in the season they finished 9th with 51 points. Cov got more than that under Strachan in 1998. He's probably the most overrated manager in the game, pure vibes.
The flip side to that would be that they finished 17th the season before he joined and finished 9th in his last season so he improved them significantly.
And laid the groundwork leaving them in a better position than when he joined, allowing the next manager to build on and take them further.
Robins total managerial performance in the championship is bang average. It’s not even good, let alone the sort of track record that would give any owner a high degree of confidence that he would get your club promoted to the Premier League.
I think Mark has been brilliant for us by the way but that doesn’t mean i think he would have got us promoted.

I totally agree that its only the last 2 1/4 seasons has he had a squad that should have made the top 6, but he hasn’t defied the odds in the way say McKenna did last season, or Edwards the season before.

Just carried out some number crunching from the date of the Robins viveash falling out over the telegraph article. Last season after the fall out there were 9 matches we got 7 points. This season 14 matches 15 points. So 23 matches 22 points. Well below Robins normal Chamionship average with us. I think Lampard RVN etc will be capable of improving on that tally.
