RWB Position (1 Viewer)

Are we all agreed that Burroughs did nothing to deserve being dropped, played well and Eccles looked sharp last night?

Norton-Cuffy is pants. I cant figure out what he does thats any good? He cant go past a man, cant cross, and hes as strong in the tackle as a Jamie Allen long range effort.

Dabo is a liability also.

Would we be happy going into next season with Burroughs and Eccles as RWB or should we prioritise a brand new first choice player for that place?

I think we will definitely look to sign a first choice in the summer with Burroughs and Eccles as cover.
I would think so, too - although I suspect the priority will be around forwards and centre backs, given that they will probably all disappear in the summer - bar possibly Rose.

What about the lad we brought in from Tottenham think he played the other day for the U/21s is he any good or what.

He was the worst player on the pitch pre season at Nuneaton and they had trialists playing

Eccles is ten times the player BNC is. Seen nothing either going forwards or defending from him at all. Always tries to over play it in dangerous areas, never seems to get a tackle in, don’t think he’s beaten a man for pace yet. Even Ryan Giles had that one run and cross.
I maintain that Kane is miles better than BNC, which says a lot.

No wide attacking threat at all, except when Vik pulls out to the wing. We play three at the back and defence-minded wing backs. Hope we get better options there in the summer.

It’s the robins way. 5 defenders 3 DMs and hope one AM and one ST can break them down.

I’m not quite sure what the lad from Arsenal is good at? What’s he’s strengths? Not brilliantly fast, not great in the air, goes backwards in his play, looks shattered after 60 minutes, not strong in the tackle…. Burroughs offers more in that position.

Not sure Rotherham we’re too disappointed when the loan was finished there.

That said, he must have something to be at Arsenal?

Really dislike criticising players - and I’m not writing him off just yet - but really not getting BNC.

I said in the first home game, and it’s more evident from the stands, his positional sense in both directions is horrendous. Defensively he's looked poor, and we could probably accept that (to a point) if he offered something at the other end, but so far he really hasn’t. He’s not an outlet, he isn’t offering anything offensively and he looks a mixture of nervous and clueless on the ball.

I really liked Burroughs as he wanted to attack and push forward - which is key to how we play.

I think Eccles is a good footballer and a talent too, but he isn’t at his best at RWB in my view. However he offered loads more than BNC last night!

To the OPs point, I wouldn’t want those two as our RWB options, I’d want a specialist RWB as first choice with those two as supplementary cover, as Eccles should be CM cover and Burroughs as LWB and RWB cover, but not suing for a start.

Don't go being reasonable when you can just pile in on a 19 year old player adjusting to a new environment.

I mean. The general consensus is we've gave him a few games and hes pants. Hes played half a season in this league aswell for Rotherham so i dont buy that excuse

New player needed, Burroughs and Eccles have done well filling in, but it's not their natural position, we need a specialist WB.
Cuffy needs time to settle into big boys football, he will do OK with more games, but I'd sooner see him returned after this season.

Right now I'd be inclined to play either Eccles or Burroughs, though I'd prefer if we didn't have to as it not the natural position for either of them. Needs urgent attention in the summer, and we two or three of them going we should be able to bring in a decent replacement.

Pretty poor indictment of our squad when we had/have Dabo, Kane, Dacosta and Lusala contracted and have then brought in BNC.

Remember when our academy seemed to do little else than produce right-backs?

Agree with most that Norton Cuffy hasn't been great so far but it's far too early to judge him. I said on another thread he reminds me a lot of Dujon Sterling who was also written off after his first few games. Dabo was also very suspect for the first couple of months in League 1. Saw the following tweet on twitter about Norton Cuffy (admittedly I'm not sure I understand it... But appears to be based on some science!)

I don't disagree that he might well come good as he beds in. I guess my main issue is that as a short term loan he'll then be off just as he does... unless the intention is to have him back next season as well, that seems counterproductive.

Yes. I had forgotten about the abuse Sterling got at the beginning.

BNC looks like a player who's not quite sure what his role in the team is just yet but that's not overly surprising. He's a talented boy though & will have a very good career I'm sure.

Chuka akpom ended up with a good career. Not exactly relevant to us

We are so rubbish at recognising talent as a fan base. Maybe every teams supporters are.

He isn’t talented here and now and that’s all that matters

Guess the difference is Norton-Cuffy has now played over 40 first team games across league one and the championship which is virtually a full seasons worth of experience. We were Sterlings first loan, he'd never played mens first team football before and struggled physically in that early part of his stint with us.

I don't disagree with what you're saying on the whole, that's the nature of loaning young players as I've mentioned re: Panzo previously.
BNC has had successful loans at Rotherham & particularly Lincoln though & has plenty of time to come good with us.

Funny story about Akpom actually, your beloved Neil Warnock cited signing Akpom for Middlesbrough as one of his biggest transfer failings & that it was proof that the new methods of data & video scouting don't work...
