Hmmm... depends which parts of France's make-up we become like. Can we choose the cheese and wine and Provencal villages? And I'll take the Left Bank Bohemian culture too please.
We'd all have to drive Renaults though

I am yet to see the cartoon and if its really distasteful he has made a serious error of judgement and perhaps should loose his job. However, if its not that bad I am really worried about the implications of your last statement.
If you’re a Muslim the very fact it exists means that distasteful is an understatement.

Then move to a country where they execute people in public for the crime of drawing a picture
You’re usually a sensible poster but that’s as stupid a response as I’ve seen on this thread. If you don’t like it get out of my country, full NF. What’s wrong with just having a little respect for someone else’s beliefs.

Sorry are you saying any image is distasteful? As I said before not seen 'it'. Details, matter.
Correct. Muslims do not use imagery unlike other religions. You won’t go into a mosque and see images of god or Muhammad or anyone else. Any images, not just a cartoon are considered blasphemy.

Behind a pay wall so can't see the whole quote but that sounds like a threat.
They need told.

Well, assuming it's this same article... it is a threat.

These so called community leaders need to fucking respect the fact they're living in a 21st century western democracy.

Get over it....its a fucking cartoon. Bunch of intolerant pricks

If you want people to be put in prison for showing a cartoon then either move to a country where those laws exist or accept you’re in one where they don’t. It doesn’t make me some Tommy Robinson tribute act to point that out

I think you'll find that most of the fundamentalist or orthodox followers of the Abrahamic religions disavow iconism. For example, Jewish law prohibits graven images, whereas unlike the Sunnis (notably the Wahhabis), there are some Muslim Shia sects that allow images. It was also prevalent in early Christianity but later fell out of fashion.

Should they be protesting outside a school and trying to put the teachers name online? No

Should a teacher in an RE lesson do something that will offend the religion of some of his students? No

End of really

Literally impossible. It’s offensive to many religions to say there’s not one true God, which is kinda the entire point of RE lessons.

Be offended by facts all you like, just don’t expect anyone to take you seriously. And if you start threatening people and forcing schools to close expect to get shut down.

End of

Question, if a teacher had done things that5 were seen as blasphemy to Christians and Christians were picketing a school would the usual suspects be so angry?

Yes. Some of us even worked in schools where Christians took over and attempted to install their ideology into the curriculum and pushed back against it in person.

If Christians were picketing outside my local school I'd be sure to take time out my day to tell them what absolute bellends they were ...so yes

As the chat is still going I thought this might be an interesting read (sorry about the crumple, dug it out the recycling !). Whether people agree with Syed or not it’s a reasonably balanced article , highlighting that of course it’s important to respect people’s beliefs, however, in return there should be a respect for a tolerant society

You really are missing the point there. Can you teach RE without showing a cartoon that Muslim will find deeply offensive? Yes so why do you need to do it?

I'd imagine most Muslims find it quite offensive to talk about or discuss homosexuality too , shall we also ban this type of discussion going forward in schools which have Muslim students

Just a thought

Those that have called for that have the right to voice that opinion. You wouldn’t say to the country side alliance if you don’t like the ban on fox hunting move to a country where there isn’t a ban on fox hunting when they protest because they don’t except that law. You’re being irrational, which as I say isn’t typical of you.

I believe the lesson was about intolerance......so the teachers played a blinder really hasn't he?

....As the baying mob of cunts at the school gates is a perfect demonstration of irrational religious intolerance.

Christian groups have a history of protesting just that at schools.

Great, and would you stop it out of respect for them ?

I wouldn't

I think the water is muddy at what age children should be learning about anything in terms of sexuality ...but In general would you stop it out of respect

No. But then not teaching about sexuality isn’t fundamental to Christianity, we have plenty of gay vicars for instance. Not having images of Allah is fundamental to Islam though. Again, if you’re going to compare eggs try comparing them to eggs.

Just to add. I absolutely support their right to protest it though, even though I disagree with them.

By displaying intolerance to Islam
noun
  1. 1.
unwillingness to accept views, beliefs, or behaviour that differ from one's own.

Just about everybody disagrees with you on here with this point Tony .. it is what it is

Of course “our voices must be heard” but if I’m female I can’t show my face

No, you’re missing the point. A lesson is better when students experience things closer to real life.

Does a science teacher *need* to do live experiments with an element of risk? Why not just read about them in a book? Do teachers need to take kids on school trips? Why not just take them on Google Maps where it’s safe?

It is rational as the protesters seem to have a massive problem with one of this country’s basic freedoms being exercised. I don’t want them gone but if they hate it so much they’d maybe be happier elsewhere.

To muslims who follow Islam - yes we know and whilst we wouldn’t wish to offend our brothers and sisters of the Islamic faith I don’t think they should dictate to non- Muslims how they should and shouldn’t act
