You really are missing the point there. Can you teach RE without showing a cartoon that Muslim will find deeply offensive? Yes so why do you need to do it?
No, you’re missing the point. A lesson is better when students experience things closer to real life.
Does a science teacher *need* to do live experiments with an element of risk? Why not just read about them in a book? Do teachers need to take kids on school trips? Why not just take them on Google Maps where it’s safe?
To muslims who follow Islam - yes we know and whilst we wouldn’t wish to offend our brothers and sisters of the Islamic faith I don’t think they should dictate to non- Muslims how they should and shouldn’t act
Because if he accepted the views of Islam he wouldn’t have got the picture out in the first place. How is it intolerance to Islam? Disagreement isn’t bigotry FFS
Hardly the same thing as actively offending people is it.
Have a word with yourself if you are comparing going on a school trip to actively offending someones religion.
Because if he accepted the views of Islam he wouldn’t have got the picture out in the first place.
Would you have told the suffragettes to leave the country if they don’t like the rules? It is rational as the protesters seem to have a massive problem with one of this country’s basic freedoms being exercised. I don’t want them gone but if they hate it so much they’d maybe be happier elsewhere.
How so?Ironic really.
Would you have told the suffragettes to leave the country if they don’t like the rules?
Would you have told the Poll Tax protesters to leave the country if they don’t like the rules?
No, of course you wouldn’t. All those people would have been “happier” elsewhere at that moment in time. Why should it be different this time.
I don’t think you’re the Tommy Robinson type for one moment but I’ll tell you what. All the Tommy Robinson types will be cheering your view on that and as a rule of thumb if Tommy Robinson types are saying it’s right chances are it’s wrong.
What if those expectations interfere with another groups expectations?Surely it's just common decency not to actively try to offend someone else's religion?
Surely Muslim parents should have the right to send their kids to school and expect the school to be attentive to their beliefs?
Because if he accepted the views of Islam he wouldn’t have got the picture out in the first place.
I think you’re confusing acceptance with practicing. He’s also have been homophobic, anti every other religion, and misogynistic.
But he doesn’t accept the views of Islam, and neither do I, or the vast majority of people Muslim or not, for that matter. And he doesn’t have to.
I bought a bacon sarnie into a morning lesson once, we had a Muslim student in the class. Guess it’s a good job you weren’t around to organise my getting run out of town.
That’s exactly the point. So it’s fine for non Muslims to see the cartoon and for Muslims to choose not too and then to have a discussion. I think that’s ok isn’t it?I think you’re confusing acceptance with practicing.
I assume you didn’t make the Muslim students take a bite of the bacon sandwich? Of course you didn’t. Same thing, look at the cartoon all you like, eat a bacon sandwich all you like. But don’t share that image with Muslim students the same as you wouldn’t share a bacon sandwich with Muslim students.
Vast majority do NickIf Muslims accepted the views of non Muslims then they wouldn't kick off when non Muslims don't abide by their rules.
We don’t abide by “their” rules on a daily basis so that’s bollocks. I’ve never stepped foot in a mosque, that’s “their” rules. I don’t attend church, presumably “our” rules. Etc etc. I don’t burn crosses, “our” rules. I don’t flash around images of “Allah”, “their” rules. If Muslims accepted the views of non Muslims then they wouldn't kick off when non Muslims don't abide by their rules.
I've probably been in 3 mosques, pretty sure that's not a rule. Also no rule forcing anyone to go to church. As for cross burnings, I think there's very different reasons people wouldn't want to be doing that.We don’t abide by “their” rules on a daily basis so that’s bollocks. I just try to respect other people’s beliefs systems. It doesn’t inconvenience me to not show cartoons of Allah, I can discuss it and make a point without having to go to the effort of showing a cartoon of Allah regardless of opinion on whether I believe it’s okay or not. The only reason to show a cartoon of Allah is to get a reaction. Either the teacher is a complete moron or he was looking for a reaction.
I take your point. I would just make one point though. Protesting is a right in this country, kicking people out of the country for a difference of opinion isn’t.And Islamic extremists will be siding with the parents.
That doesn't mean any of them subscribe to extremist beliefs.
Unfortunately wankers can always sniff out a band wagon and an opportunity to shit stir.
BSB didn't say kick them out, he said they are welcome to leave.I take your point. I would just make one point though. Protesting is a right in this country, kicking people out of the country for a difference of opinion isn’t.

Teaching about homosexuality and women’s rights offends some religions. Teaching evolution offends some religions. Mixing boys and girls offends some religions. Why is this one the one we should listen to?
I’m offended by what’s taught in Business and Economics, I disagree with a lot of what’s taught in PSE, I know lots of activists who disagree with what’s taught in history and lots of English teachers who disagree with what’s taught in English lessons.
Funnily enough, they suck it up or campaign for change to the government. None of them send death threats or shut down schools.
You don’t have a right not to take offence. That’s not a thing and it wouldn’t be practical even if it was. The teacher warned students ahead of time (a practice the science on is considerably iffy but is the current accepted way of teaching potentially triggering content), his job was done.
Fucks sake, you’re acting like a religious person being offended is something anyone should give two shits about. It’s not 1982.
He gave other examples too. You chose to ignore them.wow you are seriously equating differing economic theory to this?
Weird
Vast majority do Nick
He still wouldn’t have said that to the suffragettes or the poll tax protesters though would he?BSB didn't say kick them out, he said they are welcome to leave.

Literally no one, in this country at least, takes Christians moaning about shit seriously, we just laugh at them. Yet when it comes to Islam people start pissing their knickers. It's very very strange.Hey Tone, PVA
In 2019 Christians protested outside a school because they were covering homosexuality in lessons. No flags were involved but unfortunately no teachers were sacked; whipped etc. and the school just carried on.
What a bigoted school! They should have immediately withdrawn this from the curriculum and issued a groveling apology letter - yes? It would have been enough to say that sexual deviants exist - that's sex education. I question their ability to teach.

I can't read his mind but I believe he answered that above. He still wouldn’t have said that to the suffragettes or the poll tax protesters though would he?
MmmmWould you have told the suffragettes to leave the country if they don’t like the rules? YES, they had flags.
Would you have told the Poll Tax protesters to leave the country if they don’t like the rules? YEP, cannot get past their flags.

I don't think we should talk about Tommy Robinson types in case it offends them.
I do absolutely take your point about there being questionable reasons for sharing the cartoon but I remember often in discussions taking an alternative point to engage others in exploring their opinions. Or being a devils advocate, you know it’s a legitimate teaching tool in experiential subjects surely?Mmmm

So who’s pissing their knickers in this scenario? The people who are getting angry that they’re using their right to protest using language like if they don’t like it they can leave or people saying that they have an equal right to protest in this country even if you don’t agree with them.Literally no one, in this country at least, takes Christians moaning about shit seriously, we just laugh at them.
