Shooting from a corner gets a big thumbs up from the crowd, short corners get a massively negative reaction, yet the likelihood of scoring from a short corner would absolutely dwarf that of a direct shot. Most fans just like to see spectacular and have zero logic. Same as when someone is like 35 yards from goal and there's a huge cry of 'shooooot'.It’s the shooting from corners that winds me up. Yet everyone seems to love it for some reason
Who is good at heading the ball in our team though? Our midfield is tiny with Allen, Hamer and O’Hare. Palmer is taller but a flair player. Rose is timid. Gyokeres rarely scores with his head and is great at holding the ball up with his feet but isn’t your traditional target man. Godden and Walker are finishers. Fadz is the only person in the team who really enjoys attacking the ball in the air and dominating. When a team only has 1 threat in the air, it becomes a lot easier to defend against. I feel we’ve looked a lot more dangerous from corners since McNally arrived.
He was hardly prolific himself. Averaging 2 goals a season (Rose record per game is pretty much the same) and the fact Blackburn are in that list with us doesn't really back up he is particularly a force in the air.Agreed, We stopped trying to score headers from corners as soon as Dom left
On the flip side, we have conceded the fewest goals from set pieces in the league which is an enormous improvement.
We can never turn a throw into a threat. Always tap back to the thrower. I’m amazed Cuffy is allowed to take them, totally ineffective and close to a foul throw. The throw ins are terrible, and have been for a while.
A throw-in is just a pass. IMO it's criminal to give possession away from your throw, so back to the thrower is fine with me. I agree Cuffy gets away with a lot of sus looking throws though. We can never turn a throw into a threat. Always tap back to the thrower. Just saw this tweet:
Why are we so shit at set pieces? We’ve got all the ingredients, a couple of players who can deliver a decent ball, a few big tall centre backs. But we’ve been awful at them for ages, including throw ins.
What are people’s theories?

There’s more to just throw-ins than just lobbing it as far as possible into the box. So long as you don’t lose possession and/or momentum then our current approach seems fine to me.Thought for years we’ve been poor at free kicks, corners and especially throw ins. We often ask do they ever train at throw ins there so bad. What also amazes me is how many of our throw ins are foul throws the ref doesn’t call. The only time at throw ins recently we were any good was when McCallum was with us.
I'm not sure he's actually "shooting" is he? Just putting it in a really dangerous area. Id be interested to know how many hamer corners this season have been parried/ punched by the opposition keeper. I do feel with the technical ability that Hamer has, we should be doing better on these kinds of set play thoughIt’s the shooting from corners that winds me up. IMO with Hamers accuracy it is a dangerous area if we load it with our big lads the attention is drawn there and leave the rest of the goal more exposed. It’s not a dangerous area is it? Saturday was the first time we’ve scored and it was a major goalkeeping error.
