Its more about for me what can the club do? It’s like violence at games. One guy punches another do we punish the club?

For me it’s a health and safety issue for the club, did they do everything reasonable to prevent it and did they act appropriately once they were aware of it. In Sheff Wednesdays case I’d argue the haven’t done the former as it’s clearly been an issue and the stewards didn’t seem to kick the guy out. But if it hasn’t and they did I’d feel less comfortable punishing what could be an anti racists club.
Clubs responsibility for fan behaviour is as old as the hills at all levels from the local park footie to Wembley.

We’ve had thousands of seats closed off for years because one Cov fan decided to go full Chuck Norris against Derby County in 2021. Or maybe we should have waited until proof he wasn’t just a Leicester fan who’d gone undercover?

Its like the old school discipline question. Do you give detentions for behaviour to/from school?

Should the club act if someone punches someone while wearing a Cov top in town? I’m not sure. But I can see the point as it’s football related.

Do you think that was an appropriate response?

No, but I think it was obvious that some kind of changes would have to be made after it happened, and any subsequent inconvenience to fans in that part of the stadium would be hard to argue against.

That happens nowadays obviously can’t blame the club for someone getting a dig in Broadgate but if picked up by cctv the assailant is likely to get a banning order which are quiet stringent and nationwide.

Wish I hadn't gone on their forum this morning and clicked on the "Kasey Palmer applause" thread. Now feeling completely depressed.

Well reasoned. Not sure ref talking to the managers dealt with anything
If that’s repeated no doubt they will walk off
Think Kasey was close last Saturday
I agree, it needs stadium announcements and a whole lot more and if it happens, walking off should be supported by the referee and the FA. The footage last week is dreadful and totally unacceptable.

I think you can argue that the club (or the police) didn’t do enough at the Derby game (IIRC the fan waltzed past a copper or two there and back for a start), so changes are justified.

I think the same at Sheff Wed, especially considering their apparent history with racism, changes to stewarding and messaging should happen. If they don’t then I think a club punishment is due.

It looks like he will play and sadly it seems like a sizable number of their fans are okay with him being booed.

Hopefully this ends the love in some of our fans have with them.

Imagine being a non white Wednesday player and seeing your own fans boo someone who was racially abused?

Their young keeper making his debut is black, he’s going to have to stand by their fans all game. Imagine that being your introduction to football.

So will you hear the 500 that boo or the 20,000 who don't? Like us most of them will be sound. Every club including ours has unsavoury sorts that follow them. I'm disappointed in their clubs response and also the EFLs but let's not assume they're all the same.

tbh some of the posts on there are right - it would be a top gesture to maybe clap his name for a minute by both sets of fans or something but after that there's not much more you can do

That makes it ok then? Also forgive me but nothing in my post indicated that I thought all of them are the same, in fact I said "sizable" which means a large part but not all.

Error you said you hope it ends the love in with them.

Whilst love in is strong I think it was more united in grief after the two lads who died returning from the game. That shouldn't be changed over a few morons.

That still doesn't indicate I said all their fans are the same.

The "love in" predates that. It was definitely about when I used to post on GMK.

The boos that may ring out tonight may not necessarily have anything to do with his skin colour let's not forget - by all accounts,KP was proper shithousing their fans - surely a section of our crowd would do the same to one of their players if the roles had been reversed

What’s the level for you given what’s happened then?

He was shithousing them, big time.

But that's absolutely no excuse for a fan to racially abuse him. It also then not a very smart move to boo a player who has been racially abused by your fans, even if you're booing him for another reason.

It was disgusting when their fans were trying to justify it by saying that shit, now our own are doing it too? Fuck right off.

What more do you want to happen tonight? Serious question
Have you watched Palmer’s video statement? The issue isn’t what anyone says, it’s what actually happens. You could just read the rest of the thread but some combination of:

* Banning orders for fans shown to have been racially abusing players
* Stand closures or playing the game behind closed doors
* Temporary sanctions against SWFC supporters groups
* Widely publicised extra safeguarding and reporting measures inside the stadium
* Fines and/or suspended points deductions for Sheffield Wednesday
* Commitment before the game for both teams to make a joint and public anti-racism gesture
* Coventry refuse to play/delay the game

I’m certainly not saying all of this needs to happen, but any of it would be better than what has actually happened and what you are suggesting, which is nothing.
