Sky Blue Trust: We know nothing about an impending takeover (1 Viewer)

http://www.itv.com/news/central/2013-03-24/sky-blue-trust-denies-coventry-city-takeover-rumours/

The Sky Blue Trust has reacted to reports of an impending takeover of Coventry City.

"An article has appeared in this morning’s Sunday Times concerning the possible takeover of CCFC by William Haskell IV. Among other things the story states that Mr Haskell is willing to“bring the Sky Blue Trust onto a restructured board by offering the supporters’ body a 20% stake in their club.”

As it stands, it is our understanding that Coventry City FC is not actually for sale and we believe it would be irresponsible to comment specifically on each and every name that emerges, however as the Trust has been specifically mentioned we feel in this case we should make a statement.

The Sky Blue Trust can state that they have had no contact with and have held no talks with Mr Haskell IV and can therefore not pass any direct comment on the validity of the article. Instead we'd like to reiterate our view that the future of Coventry City FC depends on supporters being properly involved in the ownership and running of the Club, and the Sky Blue Trust will continue to work with all parties to bring that about.

The fact that the Sky Blue Trust and the prospect of fan involvement in the ownership and governance of the club, is mentioned in such a well-respected publication as the Sunday Times, reflects the growing influence of the Sky Blue Trust and the very concept of fan ownership and this is very welcome."

Not surprising, no interested party is going to show their hand are they.

Haskell has said he wants a 20% stake from fans. Now that is his plan... Doesn't mean he will speak to sky blues trust about it until the club is a state where it is for sale.

Surely the trust are the 2nd last party to hear about a takeover? The last being the fans.

Doubt it, it'll mean him putting his hand in his pocket to join.

The previous iteration of the Sky Blue Trust made Elliott an honorary life-member due to his success in getting in Sisu to take us over(At which point I made my excuses and left).

Was that continued with the new one?

SBT need to wind their neck in. Like they would/ should have any knowledge of takeovers at this stage

As Brent would say "get out"

Ha a press release saying they dont know anything? Genius!

You seem intent on throwing digs at the trust Nick. It's a real shame because arguably as the leader of the biggest supporters forum you're involvement would be important symbolically.

To address your point, I think the statement is entirely appropriate and strikes the right balance, not something I've thought about previous statements.

This is all well and good but think about it.

This could be a distraction technique.

They could be talking to Haskell and the times has got their hands on a part of the dicussions.

Because it's not yet been fully pencilled in and signed on, they don't want it doing the full rounds.

So they release this statement in order to quell the rumours (to a degree) which then takes the pressure off them as they go in to finish and confirm the deal.

I could be wrong but that's the vibe I get from it!

Hardly a dig it just points out nobody knows anything!

Im not really a leader of anything so nothing symbolic about it, i run a website for city fans to chat, im not getting the bedsheets out..

I hope the trust are involved in a big deal with the american and it is just putting people off the scent!

Yeah...Naughty-Nick! Obviously some on here do not welcome seeing the funny side of anything. I appreciated it - it was funny.
Keep up the good work

Why would the trust know anything anyway? They're not linked to anyone or anything..

Now, let's suppose Haskell gets his soccer team, what about this 20% business. IS he going to give it to the SBT or are they expected to buy it. Who would SBT choose to go on the board and how would that be decided? What did Swansea do?

They can't win though can they, Nick?

If they didn't say anything people on here would be asking why the Trust haven't said anything on the matter and asking 'What do they know? Have they heard anything?'

I know someone on here said why would they know anything, but we certainly have our fair share of know it all's on here don't we, who seem to know a bloke who knows a bloke!

Can't see a problem.

I do see what you mean in that not everybody will be happy all of the time, but releasing a statement saying they dont know anything and getting the fellas name wrong just looks bad.

They are going to the press and giving them stuff which reflects on all city fans.

I think they had to release a statement as it sounds like they have been in talks with the bloke and we would hammer them with questions about that.

When really it seems it is the blokes own idea and he presumes that is what the trust want.

Which I think they probably would

How much of our fan base do they represent ?
Last count i heard was 1500 members which is hardly a majority of season ticket holders !!

Ahh, but maybe they are being sly!

They say they have had no contact with William Haskell and have heard nothing on the subject, but they don't say anything about having no contact with Mr. Preston Haskell do they!! :thinking about:

Their are those who try to do something then their are the ones who just want to moan and slag off those that are willing to give up their time for what they believe

Unbelievable! - The SBT are ALMOST as caniving as sisu! They "organise" boycotts that no one attends they have film nights that only 29 people attend, and out of the 1200 claimed members, they can after around a year of existence boast a pathetic £3,000 TOTAL and a pledge (i.e may never be available) of £17K !

That amount MIGHT be impressive for a group of 5 people but fort 1200? Its PATHETIC - Its not even the cost of an adult ticket in the Jsb stand! I said even before they formulated this farce that there is no way they are going to raise the millions they would need to get even a partial share (anything less than 20% of the club is pointless!). They unbelievable hate speech from various people supporting (Is perfectly reasonable that these same scumbags are founder members) was disgusting!

Eventually even the idle local media who just use the idiot Jan as an easy way to get a soundbite will realise how pointless this group is. Until then they publish utter tosh, dressed up as informed commentary.

Do these jokers HONESTLY believe that any buyer is going to contact this fan club? Why would they? I think the indulgence of allowing them to sit and talk to the coard seems to have gone to their heads.

Entirely appropriate to say they don't know anything? A response could be made to their insipid press releases:

No Kidding Sherlock!

They are an offensive disgrace. They should go the way of SiSU

You give your time for free - so fucking what? It doesn't mean that it isn't pointless!

Many people give up their time and hard earned to watch football or other sports -its called having a hobby!

The SBT expoect to be taking seriously? Well when you can PROPERLY organise a film night PERHAPS you may have merit. 29 people! - you are a fucking laughing stock!
