The transfer window isn’t shut and we clearly haven’t completed our business yet.

Our strikers look like a strong part of our team and I’m sure we’ll look to strengthen the defence and find a replacement for Matty James too.

A lower to mid table finish will do for me. I don’t think we’ll get relegated either as there are teams worse off than us.

Mid table and above surely, we will have a better team this season won't we .

Very confused, are you talking about us? Only three teams conceded more than us and we were midtable for goals scored.
Yes us, we shipped an average 1.3goals per game. Had we not given away so many pens it wouldn't have been so bad. We were top of the Pens conceded table with 11, all of which were scored.

We scored an average 1.07 goals per game.

Our top scorer was Walker with 8. Now if we had a goalscorer getting 20 alone it would make a significant difference to our goals scored tally and league position.

So take off the Pens and our average goals conceded becomes 1.09 and a 20 goal a season guy makes goals scored 1.33.

Those stats would see us doing reasonably well I believe.

Bournemouth in 6th were 1.59 scored and 1.00 conceded.

I know it's not as straight cut as that, but we're not too far away with the right personnel. That's all I'm trying to say.

The right personnel? 4 players in the entire Championship scored 20+ last season

Yeah but what I'm saying is that we're not too far off. If we had 3 lads grabbing 8-10 then it would make a huge difference, we just didn't have that last season.

It's all hypothetical and to be honest I wouldn't care less if every player in the squad got 3. I just don't think we're too far off if we can be a bit more confident when it comes to hitting the target and stop giving away silly pens every 3 games.

20 goal per season striker joining isn’t going to happen

Yes but then you would have apply the same thinking to every team in the league which means we would be in the same position

I have to admire the optimism in this post. Be aware that those 11 penalties cost us 8 points and 12 more goals, following the same pattern, would yield another 8 points. So, taken together, the extra 16 points would have taken us to 71 points, 6 points off the play-offs. Just underlines the task ahead of us.

He is over 6ft 3 so I would hope so, though admittedly not guaranteed

Just because a goalkeeper is 6+ doesn't mean he's any good. 🙌

IIRC last season, the problem for us scoring wise, wasnt 'creating' chances, it was 'finishing' them.
Am i right in thinking that we were quite high up in chances created (or have i made that up) ?
Hopefully with our attack boosted this year, we should hopefully score more of those chances created.

You didn't mention hitting the woodwork about 15 times either.😊

The Sheaf deal was a new move I think, as in loan now and buy with next years money, thus not breaking FFP rules. Reckon we might do this again if we can find the right player.

I posted my thoughts on him having watched him previously (when he actually played).

In my opinion, he's unlikely to stay glued to his line like Marosi, he will actually attempt to come for crosses. If I'm remembering correctly it's probably more than your average keeper in all honesty but I wouldn't have described him as "dominant" particularly.

He's what I'd describe as a more "traditional" goalkeeper, i.e. he doesn't have stand out strengths like his kicking etc. like a lot of modern keepers do, but is a solid enough all-rounder.

The arguement that of "well he must be good because Robins signed him" is frankly idiotic as no transfer comes with such guarantees.

Idiotic is a bit of a stretch mate.

Given the job Robins has done to date, I don't think it's idiotic to assume that he's more than likely upgraded the GK situation this summer.

We finally have a manager we can have faith in, enjoy it because it won't last forever.

Wasn't FFP. We're a long way from breaking FFP rules.

It isn't whatsoever. Otherwise by the same logic every transfer made by Robins should automatically be an upgrade. Whilst that might be the intention it's never really that simple. So, yes it's a ridiculous arguement to make.

I support Robins explicitly, however I'm not one to sit back and gush over every signing and think everything the club do is wonderful.

But this is my exact point? How do you know he's an upgrade when there isn't actually any evidence to prove this? His lack of experience for his age doesn't particularly fill me with confidence, nor does his pedigree. I find it bizarre that people choose to openly ignore this and instead take up the position of 'Robins signed him so he has to be an upgrade'.

Reading between the lines I have a feeling he may not be our outright first choice either. I think that's probably backed up by the rumours from @Frostie and @better days that Robins is/was potentially looking at bringing another GK in. Whether that's still in Robins' plans I'm not sure but if it is, I suspect he's probably looking at two keepers to compete for the No.1. shirt. Why would he do that if Moore is a significant upgrade on what we've had previously? This is something Robins' maybe had to look at as I don't think Moore was his first choice - I suspect Walton from Brighton was but his wages apparently were a significant roadblock to getting the deal over the line therefore we missed out.

This is why we can't definitively say whether he's an upgrade at this point, as there's too many question marks surrounding him at the minute. Realistically we're going to have to wait and see how Moore performs until we can make a definitive assessment on him as we actually know very little about his ability to cope at this level.

Just wait and see Moore eith your own eyes

Imagine sky blue Pete had gone on Sunderland board about burge. They would have thought they signing a premier league destined keeper

I think you've made it up, we had one of the worst - our xG was 4th worst - Birmingham, Wednesday and Bristol City were below us

Yeah I get your point and I don't disagree with you, there's certainly a degree of uncertainty about Moore.

I'm just saying that I think to call someone out as 'idiotic' for having that level of faith in our management team after everything they have done is a bit...well...idiotic.

I would be very surprised if we brought another keeper in. We don't have a bottomless pit and still have holes in the squad that need filling. But we shall see I guess. Walton is the one that I was hoping we'd get, but yeah I agree we probably got priced out of that one.
