Spent £10m on L1 players (1 Viewer)

If you've seen 'absolutely nothing' you haven't been paying attention. He's struggling in a side that isn't clicking or giving him a platform, but the pelters he's been getting on here aren't fair at all IMO. I think he will come good, provide assists and score goals.
I guess it's easy to say, and can be said for a lot of our attacking players, but it looks like a lack of confidence with EMC.

I can see him going on a bit of a scoring spell once he gets his first.

He’s come from a team that attacks at pace in which he thrived. Partly the step up in quality, and partly the pedestrian nature of our play, means we aren’t really seeing what he can do to the fullest extent at the moment.

Gyokeres came from a Premier League team, not L1- did he have an “instant impact?”

Hamer if memory serves had people calling for him to be offloaded as a liability a few months after joining.

The very two players you’re holding up as where the money came from, who as we now see have great ability, both had pretty underwhelming starts to their careers with us, and had people on here saying “get rid”.

You’ve then said these guys we’ve bought cost £10m (when they didn’t), and are hanging them out to dry even though they came from a lower level.

Leaps, distortions all over the place on this one 🙈

Many were saying Hamer "should never wear the shirt again" when he got sent off twice early in the season.

Hamer came back from that 4 match ban a different player, some people have selective memories. Also worth remembering fans spent about 2 years pissed off with how slow Sheaf was and how much he gave the ball away.

“fans” - about three people with a Sheaf obsession.

This is as bad as the Vik revisionism. Hamer Vik and Sheaf all looked a level above from day one. Similar to how MvE looked when he signed.

Ha, not even close on Sheaf. He got hammered every game.

Yeah I recall Sheaf taking about half a season to cut out the mistakes and start winning a number of people over.

I think most of the newly acquired players look decent ability wise so far. Whether they can start picking up results as a unit and cut out the silly mistakes is another question though!

Gyokores was slated for quite a while when he first joined.

And this time last year people were suggesting selling Wright and Simms for a huge loss just to recoup some money, as they were "shit"
I don't remember Gyokores being slated once

Collins money has gone, be lucky to offload him on a free.

Kitching looked good when he first arrived, regressed massively, if he can regain that he'll be a half decent championship defender. We've overpaid for him though.

EMC looked so good at Peterborough, he'll definitely come good given time, we're just so slow getting the ball forward and the poor form of the rest of the squad are impacting him. I think we've overpaid again and won't be making any money on him.

In hindsight..the worst sale was Hamers.

Ridiculous talent..he can single handedly drive any team in this division.

He can lift any team. His stats as a championship midfielder are plain stupid.

He will get more goals and assists this season. Than Rudoni/Sheaf/Eccles/Torp combined.

Instead of wasting£4m on EMC we should have used that money to keep him.

irreplaceable. and wasted his money.

He was signed based on his form for Peterborough, which has been a fairly decent indicator of championship potential.

Let's give him longer than 9 games.
To be fair don’t get people already judging him to be a failure. Granted he hasn’t started on fire but thought he’s doing alright for a difficult step up not playing on his side of the pitch which means he can’t do what he wants to do in regards to cutting in on his preferred foot.

If we want to give him a proper look in, move wright to ST and play him on the left or drop Wright onto the bench.

Maybe EMC will come good but so far it’s £10 mil pissed up the wall, no way is Kitching worth £4 mil and EMC looks like any average Championship winger at best.

I hope Doug realises his recruitment department are pretty average, okay they’ve made some decent pick-ups but it’s like a 40-50% strike rate atm. I’ve said it many times before but we need to look at players from leagues around the world and not rely on League 1 as much.

With Collins I feel like he was signed as a cheap stop gap. I don't think he was signed with the expectation of being number one for 3 or 4 years.

50% is probably a decent strike rate and better than most clubs to be fair!

As for looking at players round the world and not relying on League 1...

Wright
Sakamoto
Torp
MVE
Rodrigues
Dovin
Bassette
Binks
(Stamenic!)

Suggests that's exactly what we are doing.

i thought any idea of automatics were crazy at the start of this season anyway. sure we've got holes, injuries dont help, but i still dont think we've found the right mix of the squad we have anyway. theres plenty of negatives but theres still alot of positives.

wilson playing well again, dovin a great starter - thats refreshing.
simms/wright we know they can score alot of goal, you dont lose that.
we have bassette, who i think it an absolute raw talent.
MVE - incredible
eccles will always put in a shift
sheaf who we can rely on
saka is back, we thought he was gone for good
and although everyone sees it as a negative MR has a bolstered coaching staff, a performance director, and a owner that actually invests and cares

these are all the things we dreamt of a few years ago.
I have never dreamt of a performance director.

Exactly, and we should keep on concentrating on recruiting from around the world, when you compare it to our recent L1 purchases it’s night and day.

I’ve been paying enough attention to see that EMC doesn’t seem to play where he has been asked to play when on the right and has a really poor first touch. He does do plenty of exaggerated but ineffectual step overs though.

performance director isnt a director of football, its the modern game, it will benefit us in the long run. people on here seem to want to play long balls, 442 and have manager and an assistant only.

If there was going to be some benefit, I would have expected to see some already. Absolutely no evidence.

I don’t necessarily want long balls and 442, but playing out from the back, playing back from the front to the back to play out from the back again isn’t exactly serving us well, is it? It’s also pretty boring.

Did we sign the wrong Posh winger, Kwame Poku (23), Right sided. Scored 11 goals and registered 7 assists, which is the same amount of assists as EMC and 3 less goals. However Poku has started this season on fire scoring 6 goals and registering 1 assist in 10 league games. Shall we get scammed by Macanthony in January again?

benefits will be different from whats purely being shown on the pitch, PDs will be the coordination between areas, like medical, analytics, sports science etc, if people thought she was going to act like a coach or something then they're mistaken.

If you’re spending big in L1 you need to be signing U21s with potential.
There’s been plenty of players who have come good from L1 over 21, what a silly thing to say.

EMC’s numbers last season for Peterborough were similar to Toney’s before Brentford signed him.

EMC will come good, to reiterate the same point I’ve made on several threads, it’s not possible that all of our forward players have become bad overnight.

Put simply, we’re not creating the chances for our forwards.
