Hi there,

Just a friendly request. Steven pressley has made shrewd signings with championship experience to put us in good stead for the coming season and give us a real chance. Remember, we already have two good strikers with another two potentially coming in and they will score goals at this level. The defence has improved massively as well with the very good signings of Reda Johnson and Pugh who is a good enough replacement for Adams. Our squad has more balance to it as well which will show as the season goes on.

Now stop acting like the season is over before it's begun because we are selling our top earner who won't make it into our starting XI.

FIN.

What do you not understand about fin?

Midfield and up front are paper thin and lower quality. And I'll hold off on being happy about Johnson until I've seen him play, considering I still remember De Zeeu (sp?).

It could still very much go either way.

I wasn't too worried as I assumed a big signing would be coming in with the Wilson money, as that's not going to happen I'm starting to worry a bit, I'll be honest.

Now am feeling thick - fin = the end in French, or a sticky out bit on a shark. Hill83 help me out with a gif, or FRY put me out of my misery - is that a typo, or what am I missing (understood your plea in the thread, but not getting the fin??!!??)

A touch a realism doesn't make you depressed. A couple of good signings on paper, a couple more with promise. But you don't know what you get until the seasons starts.

With the outgoing players we are not stronger. We still need about three or four more quality players to com in. SISU's lack of desire to reinvest money shows they want to stay at Northampton and stay in League 1.

FIN as in former Liverpool right back Steve Finnan was a good player.

It's hard to be positive. Have you not seen our last 13 years?

I agree about the signings. They are decent I agree.

But we have lost our best 4 players from last season so it's not great is it.

Not to mention all the sixfields home games. It's hard that's all fry.

I understand about sixfields but this thread is targeted towards the foolish people who are saying we will be near the relegation zone without doing any research on the rest of the league. It appears to have sprung up after we are selling our highest earner who won't repeat his season of two years ago where he got 15 goals. Past his peak and we are getting rid of him at the right time.

Seeings how we ended 2013, I wasn't looking forward to SP's first full season...and this was before the 10 point deduction.

I was pleased to see he proved my doubts wrong, despite more often than not it ment having to score lots of goals.

So, if his shrewd signings plug up the leaky defense, and replace the goals lost by moose, wilson, clarke (and presumably baker), then my glass is more than half full. Lets hope the new keeper has as good a season as Joe.

Can't argue with that at all. (apart from the idea that we could choose to not be depressed of course). But apart the poor grasp of mental health issues... I wholeheartedly agree!

Who are the two good strikers? Has Tudguy signed?

Our players suffer from a lack of height. As soon as we come across teams that keep the ball in the air we will be in trouble. And our players look like midgets against big defenders but will be expected to score goals.

How many goals have we scored in the friendlies so far?

I wouldn't bother with this lot on here. We were relegated at this stage last summer and were going to finish bottom. We were relying on a young unproven striker.

Posted this in another thread but applies here too tbh

One good goal scoring season in league 1 cannot be taken as chapter and verse anymore. The standard of league 1 is far lower than when the likes of Rhodes, Holt and Lambert were making a name for themselves in it, nowadays average and failed championship strikers score for fun in it (Madden, Clarke, Lisbie, Mooney and Westcarr to name but a few). Callum Wilson could very easily fail to produce in the league above, so getting 2.5 million for a player with one good season under his belt (and replacing him with Tudgay who has the capabilities to score plenty in this division) is good business. Go on the Football Forum and other teams fans actually predict us to at the very least challenge for the play offs. We've signed good players for this division and Elvis has said more are to come, imo we are shaping up to have our strongest squad prior to a league 1 season. Have a bit fecking optimism, we might even get back to the Ricoh ffs.

I am on both sides on the fence with baker. Yes he is the highest earner and he is getting on. He is only 31 though and isn't Marcus tudgay 31?

He always tries his best and captains with leadership unlike we have been sadly use to. But it is time he went and enjoy a new challenge.

I personally think staying up would be an achievement and I know this is a football thread but sixfields is relevant here. It's such a shot situation and must affect the players. Not just the low crowds but the whole sherbang with it. Must do their heads in.

Lost all the goals from last year and lost in my opinion the best keeper in the league and no surprise he has gone into a better league. Murphy was top rate for us.

No Wilson money reinvested as of yet and season starts in less than 2 weeks with just 1 senior striker who is a decent signing but not exactly a Wilson replacement I would say. We got lucky with Wilson so all these people who say well no one had heard of Wilson this time last year. That's right but it rarely happens like that. We fell lucky.

Obviously a return to the Ricoh and 4 quality signings and it could change again.

1) We've lost the players responsible for 78% of our goals last season, our only experienced keeper and out two best full backs...
2) we have a cretinous CEO with seemingly no grasp of football
3) a club whose relations with fans have plummeted to an all time low
4) our owner ignores protests, marches and petitions and openly admits not being interested in football or caring about fans
5) a club whose deliberately destructive strategy to cheat their way to getting the ground on the cheap has seen us hopelessly marooned in fecking Northampton
6) a squad about half the size as what we need
7) we've lost key players to the bright lights of Huddersfield and Bournemouth
8) we look well short of any chance of promotion or tangible success
9) the flawed and hopeless legal process shows no sign of ending
10) Adam Barton is still a CCFC player

Apart from that, everything's looking up.

people keep saying this, it isn't true, the general opinion wasn't that we were going to get relegated, though it was that we were going to struggle (and we did), I remember the discussions clearly because I bet on us to get relegated, not because I thought we would but because I thought it much more likely than the odds of 7+/1 so it was a great value bet. Unfortunately as far as I can tell the threads don't exist anymore.

I think we might do okay until Christmas then Mr Waggott will sell whoever is our main player/players and downwards we will go....again.

1) we are on 0 points
2) league one on tour
3) we still have the Wilson / Clarke / arsenal money to spend
4) the new stadium is now plan a
5) SISU have 3 weeks to wait for their appeal against the loss of their appeal
6) SISU know they need to communicate more and have learnt from the lessons of Ranson, Onye, Delieu etc

It was exactly at the beginning of last season.

your right. Not sure why everyone was so negative about managing to secure our position in the 3rd best league in England, whilst a mere 35 miles from home.

so much to rejoice in

Not to convinced with pressleys record with loan signings last season, apart from petrasso the rest were awful, we've got a team full of loan signings and kids, that's the main reason wer'e in this league in the first place, trust me we'll struggle this season, you can't sell all your goal scorers and probably the best keeper in the league last season and expect to do well.
