McNally was great for us and filled a Hyam sized hole. Had a couple of iffy games himself and hasn’t looked as good in a back 4 this year (tbf could be many reasons for that).
Thomas is a proper old school monster centre half. Better on the ball than McNally and has a big match personality. There’s work to do but I’d pick him every time over McNally.

Kitching started more often than Binks for a reason… Binks had a few good cameos and looks tidier on the ball, but a better defender right now? Unlikely.

Did we pay £4.5m upfront or is there a lot of performance incentives in there? More than likely, it’s the latter and if he meets those performance incentives, he’s probably been a good signing.
We got incentives and sell-ons for Bayliss and because he did nothing there we ended up getting a lot less than was probably quoted at the time of that transfer.
Besides, Kitching was an established starter for Barnsley in the Championship before we signed him.

Agree with most of this but how is Thomas an old school centre half? I’d say he’s your more modern centre half with the way he passes than ball etc, and if anything, is a bit too nice!
I do see the big match personality though - Thomas always appears relaxed!

Thought he looked a lot better alongside Fadz, I’d rather we got an organiser and winner in than a raw kid.
I mean old school because he still loves getting physical, loves an aerial battle, not afraid to tackle etc. He reminds me of the centre halves who were more common in the game in the 80s and 90s.
The more ‘modern’ equivalent centre back might not be as tall, might be quicker and less likely to tackle. Their game is more about positioning and avoiding any contact that could result in cards etc.
Big generalisations and to be honest. there’s always been a place for both types. But if you imagine a spectrum, Thomas sits on the old school side( for me anyway).
As for too nice. He plays with a smile on his face but if you give him the chance, he’ll clean you out without blinking.

People are letting Binks performance in the semi final cloud their judgement. Very mediocre for the rest of the season and I’d be disappointed if we spent a sizeable fee on him this summer. Kitching the better player and worth sticking with IMO.

Yeah I like seeing him smiling in games, it’s good! Id rather that than faux-aggression.
He did get stuck in with the afters involving Summerville in that Leeds draw this season.

Is Binks really better than Kitching on the ball? I think Kitching is a far better player all round despite a few mistakes towards the end of the season. I think he will be more consistent next season and may prove to be a very good signing.
Wasn't convinced about Binks until the Wembley appearance and he seemed to gain some confidence after that but I still feel Kitching is much better.

Yes but surely it's unrealistic to expect we could sign him? I would have thought Man City would want to loan him out to aPL team next year.
Probably Leicester unless they don’t want him to do 2 seasons at the same club ….

I think the biggest signing we will have this time is the new 1st team coach, we have the diamonds in the rough. Dennis Lawrence has evidently left a large hole at the back end of the season, hopefully we get an ambitious driven guy with the empathy he showed the players.

I know Callum himself loved it here and if we were a loan option again we would be his choice 100%

When Binks came on for Kitching at Wembley, it was like having another player on the pitch. He looked so assured.
But there have been other times when he’s been caught out of position and not reacted quickly enough to danger, sometimes contributing to conceding goals. He also looks a bit one paced. Kitching is a unit but can build up a bit of speed if he needs to. Not seen that from Binks.
Personally, I think Binks has a slightly better touch. It just looks more effortless and those long sweeping passes can be dreamy. Kitching is very good on his day at passing on the deck and he’s able to change pace and disguise some pretty good balls into attacking areas.
Just my random thoughts and observations about the 2. Happy to be disagreed with. Basically it’s hard to pick between them. On valuation. we did pay a lot for Kitching and one factor is that he’s left footed, like Binks. But as I’ve mentioned before, that pretty much means that they can only play as LCB (in a back 4). I’d love Binks to come back but if Bologna want silly money, it’s not worth it for us or him if he and Kitching are essentially slogging it out for one position.

Not at all. Haven't spent any time looking at the Eerste Divisie after the Dylan Vente saga of last summer.
He's got a very complete statistical profile. Shooting, chance creation and defensive work numbers all high.

Like the look of this lad as cheap competition for Sakamoto on the RW. Quick, tricky and his name is Lasso. What's not to love.
Not as far as I'm aware.
Thought he looked an interesting option at the 10 position, although I hear we may be moving away from that set-up.

Well if we are going to lose him, I would rather his deal is sorted early rather than the last minute like Hamer (when it was too late to sort out a replacement)?
If a Premier League Club comes in for him I can't see how we can hold onto him?
