Has there been any transfer rumours around tyrese campbell . Feel as a back up he would offer something different and could develop under Robins.

Interesting that he is going to such a low level. Suggests that rumours linking us weren't as wild as originally thought. It would only really have worked for us if we were switching to a 3 though.

we were never in for him this summer

Could easily play Stansfield as a winger but also play them upfront together in a 442

Dovin
MVE Thomas Kitching Bidwell
Sakamoto Sheaf Rudoni EMC
Stansfield Simms

Would work quite well.
And where is Wright?

Stansfield is not happening in a million years. No Prem club is loaning us a player to come in as back up. It's pretty simple.

We don't need pressure from parent clubs for players to get minutes. We need a good understudy we actually own that we can develop. That is the system. Develop the player slowly to replace the starter which you can cash in on.

Wright could be rested, could be rotated.

You can't play every player every game. Thats how they get burnt out.

It's amazing how people have suddenly decided Wright isn't good enough again!

Agreed I think healthy competition is good. Stansfield would push Simms for a starting place and offers something different. Also we are gonna need squad rotation. There would be games where simms would suit the opposition and Stansfield (or whoever they get in) might suit others. Similarly if ones out of form then the other plays etc. they wouldn’t be a backup as such.
The trouble we had last year was we had to play wright on the left as we had no one else to push him and Godden unfortunately wasn’t at the level anymore.

We're almost at the stage where we can have a Saturday team and a mid-week team, everyone kept generally happy that way, and possible extra game time from subs bench, so teams are fresh, players happy and not over-worked

Some of them think we can play 11 same players for 46 games this season. They think its FIFA and they can stick a fitness card on them after every game.

Fully agree, but purely as Devils Advocate (and there are clearly weaknesses in both teams ), we could put out:

New Gk (Dovin?)
MVE Thomas Binks Bidwell
Sheaf Allen
Palmer
Saka Simms EMC

and

Collins
Burroughs Lati Kitching Dasilva
Torp Eccles Rudoni
Rodrigues New CF (Stansfield) Wright

Subs Bench of:
Wilson, Tavares, Howley, Dausch, Obikwu, Andrews plus whoever from the "other team" who is best suited/in form/best fitness

For me (after new GK ad CF) oly 3 to 4 players away from been able to field 2 teams, without it been clear which is the best team

Why do we think any new forward will be coming as back up ?
Surely we want someone who will fight to be a starter
If we’re playing one striker and there’s more than one in the squad it stands to reason that someone will have to be the back up.

As a player deciding on a new club it’s something you’d definitely look at. After Simms’ form to end the season I’m sure he will be starting from the first match this season, so anyone coming in will have to dislodge him first. And if he continues scoring there’s nothing they can do about it.

or if Simms gets injured
As good as the squad is looking compared to previous seasons if we get 2-3 injuries in the same area of the pitch (quite likely to happen at some point) it soon looks thin and as others have said we need rotation so we don’t drop off through fatigue. I suspect this is one point of focus of the performance director.

So yeah, not sure we’d be looking at U21 as third or fourth choice backups but someone ready to be used in rotation.

Yes having the right preparation and recovery is important. You also need flexibility around formations and tactics. You also need a bit of luck. Any squad can be decimated with a bad run of injuries. You can't always legislate for every eventuality.

Of course, there’s always a team that ends up with 5 injured CBs or something but we don’t have any backup for Simms really. It’s move Wright from the wing or play Tav.

Just to clarify Stanfield is not as good as Wright or Simms. If he came in it would be to sit on the bench and get the odd game here or there, and he's not going to do that.

We play 1 up top and have two quality (and expensive) players that can play striker on the books already. Now Wright has moved to the left but can easily come in and cover the centre if Simms needs a rest or is injured. We have EMC who we spent 5m on to move in to the left side when needed.

At no point did I say we don't need a back up striker. But a back up is exactly what we need.

You use a dig about people treating reality like FIFA, but you are the one that wants to magic up a load of cash to bring in a top level back for a position we have two quality players for already.

Whatever cash we have left needs to go to sureing up the defense and getting in competition for the midfield

If Stansfield was a loan he wouldn't cost a load of cash would he. You say Wright can play down the middle, but has he done that effecgtively before for us?
