The sheaf position worries me. If he is sold late in window we have no obvious replacement. If he is injured now, and for arguments sake, misses the first month or two of the season we could start poorly again and be playing catch up with promotion chasing sides.
Any other position I think we have reasonable short term (4-6 games) cover.
Yeah, I really don't think we can sell him without replacing. Even if he doesn't go, another player in that position would be ideal. Eccles looked shot last season when Sheaf got injured.

I'm not sure theres money in the pot for a centre midfielder, i think we need one but wasn't we linked with Stamenic before Rudoni, Binks and Dovin transfers?

Lots of talk from agents and the selling club but we never had it confirmed by the management. Were we in for him or just being used as a stalking horse?
Management wouldn’t confirm that - Robins said the other day he’ll never talk about transfer.

By all accounts, we’d signed Stamenic barring the formality of signing the contract. The initial reports said Stamenic ‘hesitated’ and lo and behold, when Forest came in he ditched us. From that, it’s clear that his agent used our offer to attract interest from elsewhere and it worked.

I think GIMOC has been pretty solid this summer but I am doubting him on this

We don't go from dropping 4 million on Stamenic and letting Godden go to not getting in a quality midfielder and striker

Granted after them 2 players I wouldn't be surprised to see no further movement but I would bet a lot of cash on there being at least the CM and ST in

Even if we bring in loans, it still doesn’t mean our business is over. Robins can’t moan about squad depth and keep the squad size the same and still below the benchmark of 22/23 season. The overall quality is higher

Counting our injured at the moment, our starting midfield is Allen, Rudoni and Eccles with Simms as our only striker. That clearly isn’t sustainable over a campaign of 48+ games.

we had been talking to Rudoni since April and Dovin since March
Doesn't mean we were intending to sign them all does it?

Maybe we cooled interest in Rudoni when the Stamenic deal was close to being done and then went back with a bigger offer to Huddersfield when the money was freed up due to Stamenic not coming.

Robins had the perfect opportunity to say we were finished for this summer when asked about further transfers …. He chose not to take it …. Probably because we are not finished …..

In the past he has used Turner well to manage fan expectation ….

I am hoping both Gyokeres and Hamer move on soon to give is a bit more cash to invest in the right quality

I think this is a large part of it at this point in the window.

If no one else signed tomorrow we would still be alright really.

That position is a concern, yes. The over reliance on a midfielder who is, at best, quite injury-prone, is a concern.

We don’t have Kelly to fall back on, who could do a limited job in that role, nor can Allen play there effectively.

Unless he’s thrusting Andrews and Howley into the forefront, I would say MR has to prioritise a DMF/CMF.

I have a feeling that Obikwu and Tavares will be the extent of our striking back up, but hopefully, we can at least get a loan in.

bookies only give Gyok a 30% chance of starting next season at Sporting - That money will be used to finance the 2 signings needed

Gyokeres does feel inevitable tbf, Sporting would be mad not to cash in at the height of this. Hamers release clause being leaked also makes me think his agent is busy trying to get him away from the shit show.

We may have been linked to Rudoni before any Stamenic bid but that doesn't mean we necessarily have the money we might have spent in Stamenic to spend on someone else. Maybe we would have had to sell someone like Sheaf if we'd signed Stamenic and Rudoni.

With some luck, Hamer moves late in the window and fucks them over.

Simms is not our only striker. We spent £9 million on Wright and he's our most expensive player ever and £4.5 on EMC. Neither are going to be spending much time on the bench.

We also have Tavares who has a better strike rate than any of our strikers, Obikwu and Dausch.

Simms
Wright
Sakamoto
EMC
Raphael
Obikwu
Tavares

if we had these seven as our options across the front three until Jan, do people think we'd be OK, or be at risk of missing top 6 as a result?

WE NEED A ST.

Not quite the nuanced debate I was trying to get started but tbf, I looked at my list after posting and thought that unless Raphael turns out to be a gem, and Obikwu kicks on unexpectedly, the quality drops massively after the first four names. Need another. I'm sold.

What did GIMOC say exactly?

It’s not that. It’s more that robins is happy with the squad. loan or 2 for cover.

nothing to do with water tight
But lost at this. Post says loans or two for cover. I think most people expect two more for cover (in cm and st). Why is everyone losing their heads. Best we’re hoping for is a new st to cover and a decent cm?

If we were in fact in for Stamenic, there must be a chance that it was with a view to selling on and replacing Sheaf, which if so would make redundant the view some have on here that the money set aside for signing Stamenic is still burning a hole in MR's pocket.

It's a really hard one to answer, its very difficult to gauge where Rodrigues and Obikwu are at in their development, even Tavares really who has improved but has he improved enough? I'm not sure. That's all up to Robins and his team to decide i suppose.

Tbh i'm pretty certain we'll still bring in another CF which will render the discussion pointless.

I think we’re under selling the options we have. One that interests me is Tavares. His position is CF. He’s been played on the wing. But actually when he gets central he looks like a very natural goal scorer. And let’s not forget we have Simms and then Wright. Godden played no part at all last year in reality.

Have to disagree

Without Goddens goals in the first 2 months of the season we are bottom after 10 games
