Depth chart of first team players as things stand:

GK: Dovin, Collins, Wilson

RB: MVE, Lati

CB1: Thomas,

CB2: Binks, Kitching

LB: Bidwell, JDS

CM1: Sheaf, Torp

CM2: Eccles, Allen

AM: Rudoni, Palmer

RW: Sakamoto, Rapha, Tavares
LW: EMC, Wright

ST: Simms, BTA, Bassette

Definitely hoping that the next signing is a CM and either a CB or RB depending on who can get. Thins window it’ll be one or the other.

Ideally now we will see

CM
CB/RB come in

Collins
Palmer
Tavares

Go out

The lad has 6 professional goals, not sure how £2m can be massively undervalued.
He's always been very prolific in the youth ranks, that was his first real taste of first team action. Youth international for Belgium as well. Very physical striker that loves a header, also not scared to contribute defensively. He is our Golden replacement, but way more mobile...and only 19 of course. He scored or assisted in almost every game where he was given good minutes this past season, not garbage time.

I just can’t see us not signing a CM and could see us potentially waiting out for a CB until Jan. With Sheaf to come back a signing should shore up that area and give the players we’ve got a chance. We appear to be specifically after an experienced CB so cannot see us signing a random young player from abroad. Someone like Worrall (obv not him) was perfect because he’s been there and done that at Championship level.

For the wages off the bill, I’d be ok with letting Palmer go. If he was clinical in the final third he’d be a top Championship player and unfortunately, he’s not. As for Tavares, has some good moments but frankly, don’t believe he’s good enough for us.

Because he's a 6'1, 19 year old youth international, who has scored them in less than 900 minutes of professional football.

His stats show he's good on the ball, presses high up the pitch and gets on the end of progressive passes.

Tell me how much that lad would cost if he was English

I wouldn't be too upset to lose both

I dont think this means King stops trying to bring players in. I just see it as a player we tracked fir a while and were able to get it done today. Others will be in talks and some of our own will be told to look for other clubs. More to come i suspect.

If he was English... he'd be playing for English international teams and probably not in Ligue 2/Jupiler Pro...

There’s quite a bit out there about him being unhappy at lack of opportunities (basically 4th choice) at Caen despite a good record in the b team & youth internationals. Looks like he would’ve joined Mechelen permanently but they wouldn’t stump up the cash so here we are.

Why would you 'ideally' see Palmer go out? He's getting minutes, so if he goes we'll need a replacement (and I don't think this Norman fella is a replacement for him).

I'd rather sign a CM and move Allen on than a backup 10 to move Palmer out.
Palmer doesnt have a role in our current system. We don't play the traditional 10 whcih everyone seems obsessed by. He isnt good enough to play deeper in midfield and isnt a winger. For a high earner to be on the bench doesnt make sense.

What the fuck is our formation going to be this season?

View attachment 37926
Remember when we used to play 8 defensive players + plus Vik and Gus ... And tried it a few times with Godden, after he and Vik fell out, and then again after Vik left....
And away at Preston once and Wigan too, tried it with Sean McGuire and Howley....
Well who the fuck was holding Robins back.... He's gone fucking crazy!!
Seriously - what is happening.....!?

Unhappy being 4th choice so he's moved here to be 3rd choice, smart lad.

So, playing top division football abroad at 19 isn't enough?

The same level that Tats was playing at when we signed him, just as an aside.

You've made an obscure, irrelevant point. If my auntie had bollocks she'd be my uncle yada yada.

However you swing it, £2m is pretty steep for a guy with just 6 professional goals in Belgium and the French 2nd div.

How is it obscure? Or irrelevant?

You're removing all context from a situation and then finding a problem with it.

Because he's not English. And if an English player started his career in France/Belgium like this lad has he wouldn't qualify as homegrown, so his value wouldn't be inflated the same way domestic players are. You're the one removing context.

Pretty sure if we revisit the Sakamoto thread from last season, there was a lack of enthusiasm in some quarters. Personally, I didn’t know who he was and if he was any good and the same applies here.

Like most of our signings, they seem ‘too steep’ before they hit a good run of form and people realise we’ve got good players. €2.5m for a 19 year old who presumably has a lot of potential on a 5 year deal could prove to be a great signing in the years to come.

Sakamoto had far more experience.

Sakamoto had far more experience.

In Japan and only 2 seasons in Belgium. 0 goals and in a relegated team from the Belgian league, which people had been calling a farmer’s league in reply to signing Bassette.

Besides, the player hasn’t been signed to start like, Langstaff for Millwall (arguments sake). He’s got Simms and BTA, two experienced and proven Championship strikers in front of him. It’s the kind of signing we can afford to make.

He’s a player that fits a profile we’re looking for and at 19, will have good potential. Trust the process that it’ll come good.

I'm not writing him off. In a vacuum he's fine. But when he's presumably coming in behind both BTA and Simms it just seems odd that we've paid a fairly significant fee for him as he's unlikely to get much playing time (and if he does, where does that leave BTA?).

Just can't really get my head around the logic of it all.

We can’t afford Worrall and his wages. Both Burnley and SU are keeping tabs on him for their CBs that are outgoing.

Madsen, if we really wanted him he would choose us over QPR. So again we might have been interested but are we really making a move for him?

I think there will a couple of surprise signings not on anyone’s radar.

Surprise signing number 1 😉

few more pls

What's this?
Links not working for some reason but it was a tweet from Obikwu. Text is:

‘Minor setbacks, major comebacks. I will continue to put my faith and trust in God through the difficult times and through the good times but I still believe everything happens for a reason🙏🏾💔

Maybe it’s as simple as we have more money left to spend than people think?
