I think we need to be more honest about the 19 goal season .

13 in the league which is fair , but in just 9 matches ,3 already this season without a goal he just doesn't strike me as an out and out goalscorer .
He's scored 13 in 49 league matches which is almost 1 in 4 and in 9 league games , so 40 league games without a goal , that's almost 80% of matches he's not scored in

Wright is the better goalscorer

I quite like simms tbh , but I'd rather sign billing plus cash .. billing must be worth 15 mill plus

This is classic pulling stats to suit an argument.

Discount 6 goals because you want to... Even though 2 came against top division opposition. Then discounting multiples in matches. Gyokeres only scored in 15 matches in his first full season... And 2 were multiple so he was also a 1/4 striker too then right?

You have also used matches as if he has started every game from memory in the first half of last season there must have been at least 10 games where Simms played less than 15 minutes?

Well presumably money isn’t an issue otherwise spunking it on BTA and Bassette is a massive error.
They’re not errors at all, what nonsense is that! BTA was WBA’s top goal scorer last season and Bassette looks like a promising player.

We’ve got a squad to build and sometimes, the best available players aren’t the positions of need. If we have to wait until January, so be it.

I’ve been harsh on the midfield so far but Eccles has said he’s ‘trying new things’ and this Torp’s still new to English football. I wouldn’t write any of them off just yet.

I’m saying both together, if we were struggling for money then we wouldn’t have spent circa £5m on backup strikers.

This year, it's lack of depth in midfield and RB that could (with no reinforcement) means we miss out again. Still hanging to the hope they wouldn't be stupid enough to let Palmer go if we didn't have someone coming in.
RB is not that much of a concern because MVE has proven his durability and Lati playing the odd game to deputise is decent enough. My concern is that we concede soft goals and that will cost us more points than MVE being injured for a stretch. The same, to a lesser extent, could be said for the midfield too.

What’s interesting about the Peruvian RB linked with earlier is that he plays LB too…

Soft goals for me are a result of not having a solid midfield when Sheaf is not available.

Apparently there's something in it.
I don’t believe it for a second. Billing is contracted till 2027 and probably earning almost double what our top earners are on. I also can’t see him wanting the move at all, he was performing well in the prem but just doesn’t suit the new manager’s system. He would have much better options than us if he was to leave.

Yeah, needed one of those but not both. Doubt it's a money thing, and it certainly sounds like they've been trying.
We’ve clearly identified Bassette as one for the future. Imagine had we not executed the deal, he has a breakout year elsewhere and we miss out on him.

The way he played flashed similarities with Gyokeres so it’s easy to see why the club have signed him even though he wasn’t in a priority position.

I've not really tried to do anything

Simms scored 13 league goals

This season he has 0

He has scored in just 9 of his 49 league appearances .

Gyokeres is far superior to simms , not even worth debating , or arguing about really

Also

I quite like simms , but let's not pretend he's bagging tons in the league becaude he's not but he may well develop further this season .

Billing is proven , worth about 15-20 mill and would immediately improve us .. that was the point .

I personally think we lose simms we still score goals and win matches

Like Simms but they’re not even in the same conversation imo.
