The u23 is a bit of a joke, Jack McBean, David Bremang, Jordan Ponticelli all scored plenty at that level. It is nowhere near the level of the first team and Tavares is nowhere near the level Tyler Walker is.

Players don’t play for first team on the strength of their U23 performances. As Robins says you have to show you’re capable in training against first team players that’s when you get a chance

Naturally eyes are drawn to the player who scores the goals, as with Ponticelli at the time.

Lower risk chucking a striker on and raw attributes get your further as a forward than a defender TBF. Defenders need more physicality and mistakes are punished more so it’s not surprising really.
