That complete silence in anticipation just after it leaves his boot is a thing of beauty. I'm sure I heard the swish as it hit the net!

I hadn’t noticed the silence until you said it and I had watched it a few times

I can kind of see the Nuddy comparison a little as he is perhaps unpredictable, mainly due to rawness, but for me Stern John comes to mind a bit. His movement suggests that all he wants to do is score goals: whilst everyone else was running in, he dropped off into space and jockeyed in anticipation of the ball coming out to him, I liked Robins pointing out that he'd found more space in 2 mins than our other strikers had all game. And that was a bit of a Stern shot! If he's half as good as him we've got a bargain.

People say he's an inexperienced forward, but that's the finish of an experienced player. He drops back into a space where you'd expect a headed clearance to land, brings the ball under control with utmost composure, and those quick feet to find the space when the defenders closing him down. And that's ignoring the finish.

Real problem on this forum now. Young Tav, too slight, too young, too league 1 Rochdale has just pulled a rabbit out the hat. What do we do now!!

I wouldn’t be posting after the egg on your face on this thread

Hardly egg on my face. I'm sure if i went through your posts you've chatted far much more shite. Like I said, I was repeating what the coaches said. Doubt you'd say the same to then. Shh.

Sick of hearing the "Tavares needs a chance" bollocks.

Hes 21, about 8 stone wet through and because he's scored 4 against Solihull B team people want him in the first team. This isn't football manager, I get you want to bring through an unknown youngster who will tear up the championship because he got 2 goals and an assist against Barnsley reserves, but fact is, he isn't big enough. The coaches know when he's ready. "Worth bringing on for the last 20 mins surely"

Why?
This hasn’t aged well.

Let’s give him time though and not put him on a pedestal too soon l know what a lot of our fans are like especially on this website hero to zero can happen quickly. As he starts to get regular starts who will be his best strike partner etc.

A Sunday morning reality check is required.
Yes he scored a great goal, yes he took up a great position and looked the part.
But the lad is raw as f#%k and needs careful handling by MR.
I dont expect him to get any game time away at Swansea, but I can see him getting 20 or 30 minutes at an upcoming home game before Godden returns.
And maybe a good runout before the end of the season if we play any "dead rubber games" in preparation for being in the mix next season.

In the 10 seconds from the moment of Hamer's free-kick delivery and Tavares scoring, Tavares moved his feet 22 times. It isn't just A to B pace that's important, it is the quickness of feet adjustment that can make a difference. Not to mention the finish.

I’ll reiterate what I said yesterday, he really can’t be any less effective than Waghorn. More energetic, more enthusiastic and yes, very raw, but Waghorn being put through on goal then barely getting a shot away said all I needed to know.

A shame he’s got another year here really and nobody will take him off our hands.

I get that and understand why it likely won’t happen, but the point stands. Waghorn is just getting worse and looks more apathetic on the pitch. Compare to Gyo who despite being exhausted was still working hard to do what he does

I still don’t understand the argument that he’s too young, Brennan Johnson is only 20, and also scored yesterday and plenty of other young players doing well. Tavares isn’t some young child of 16/17, he’s 21 and a man fgs,get him on with 30 mins to play and bed him in easy

if Taveres has pace, hes in my team. Jyokeres is the powerhouse that will hold the ball up. make the power runs, open up the defence . little through balls to Taveres for one-to-ones with the keepers. City do not have anyone to ones with the keepers, no pace

The manager isn't against playing youngsters
Sam McCallum was a surprise choice when the incumbent left back at the time was a fan's favourite
It's mostly to do with the personality shown in training with the first team squad
Many young players are quiet when they move into the senior squad. It's those that immediately look comfortable and as though they belong there that are more likely to get a chance

We are staring the playoffs to the Premier League in the face, It could take us another 20 years to be in a similar position again. I have no loyalty to no player, but Coventry City.I want the best 11 playing in every match till season end.Sorry Waghorn, you are not in the best 11 . We are not worried about your feelings/ paid enough.Call us all the names you like on twitter. We want the city to be in the playoffs
