The dom hyam sale (2 Viewers)

I did notice how quick he was to get rid of the ball every time Cal got near to him, knew he’d be fucked if he lost it hahaha. Also how he watched Allen run past him into the box to score, probs thought no danger as Allen usually doesn’t hit the net!
Overall, not such a big miss as people thought he would be, Panzo was better on the night.

He is miles better than Michael Rose and would walk back into this side

Honestly sometimes despair-Hyam is a very limited defender who has made the best of his abilities.

His passing range and decision making in possession are very poor.

Some of the progressive passing and ball carrying from Rose and particularly from Panzo and Doyle this season has been superb.

In the modern game the better the league it’s just Not enough to be able to fling your body in the way of shots, slide tackle or intercept.

Modern defenders need to be able to bring the ball out of defence and pick the right passes (and I don’t mean fucking sideways!).

Hyam was an excellent servant for City and has carried us through games but there has been many times when I’ve despaired at his lack of quality in possession.

No great loss.

Certainly sold for less than we ought to have got, though.

How many championship defenders are sold to other championship clubs for £2m plus - I wouldn’t have thought that many unless it’s a parachute payment club

Blackburn were in for him most of the window, we said no to higher offers. Then SISU refused to provide bridging finance to help with the cashflow problems so we told Blackburn he was theirs for £1.4 million if it all came at once.

They did and he went

Boddy said it wasn't for cashflow that he was sold. Could it be that the owners needed to get a chunk of this 4.5m back they apparently put in ?

Boddy is not being truthful. The owners provided 4.5m before the August problems and made it clear no more would be forthcoming.

As stated before Blackburn were after Hyam for most of the summer, the club declined until the unanticipated cashflow problems. The owners refused to provide any extra money and so we told Blackburn if they offered all the fee up front the player could go.

Yes I picked up on that. He also mentioned that he would be getting “Dom’s wages back in January” (to spend / finance) “2 or 3 coming in”

Skybluebeliever had mentioned that
Waghorn was on 12K / week and was one of our two top earners (at the time, maybe Vic/Gus/Cal more now) with Walker and that Hyam was also on high wages (maybe promotion triggered).

I’m sure players, like in any workplace (and although it’s confidential it always seems to get out, doesn’t it?) know what each other is on.

I’m certain that MR was hoping Waghorn / Walker were going so that he could keep the squad together by saving 24k / week (plus extras).

Dom didn’t want to go but with the cancelled games / pitch the hand was forced.

Tim “you can only spend a pound once” Fisher couldn’t get SISU to sanction more £. If W&W and others off the payroll then maybe a different story.

MR is great but giving big contracts has been hit and miss. I can see the sense in taking a risk with Tyler - I honestly thought he could be a big star and have an Ivan Toney type rise.

Waghorn. 31. 12k Week for 2 years. Madness.

If we want to spend anything at all in January, a big sale will need to be made. If the owners want to help themselves to a few quid, a big sale will be made.

Our league status depends on what happens in that month, quite simply.

We could do with agent Max going training at Ryton to nobble Cal and Vic and Gus for just a week or so so that they couldn’t get sold in Jan.

It’d mean Sheaf being sold as last resort but when it got to signing the contract a minute before the deadline, he’d dither with the fountain pen and someone would take it off him.

Lets not go mental

The big difference to last season is we conceded first nearly every game and always chasing a game.

We’ve won 5 by 1 goal margin with a clean sheet already. Would never have happened last season

Rose has always been the better player and now Hyam is gone he has to play him

It doesn't matter now , the team is obviously flourishing , and I'm happy to accept that I was wrong about the impact him leaving would have on our ability to do well this season ..

I'm happy to concede that

Hes playing regularly for a side in the autos.

That doesn’t mean his fee should be higher - it’s allegedly more than we paid for Gyokeres

We did turn down more though earlier , we sold in a panic because we needed funds .. it's fine though , not sure why this thread keeps cropping up

We could have got more, turns out dom hyam isn't being missed at all

End thread
