Currently beef from Australia is subject to 20% tariffs so British farmers can compete against it. Take that 20% away and British farmers can’t compete. It’s as simple as that.New Zealand?
Maybe our lamb won't cost 100 pound for 4 chops anymore
Seriously though I don't know what to say mate
Ah ok, what kind of business do you run ?

He is the last U.K. importer of Blue Nun

As long as you don’t mind buying it from the other side of the world at the expense of local producers.Does that mean cheaper beef ?
I think I read it will lead to a trade deficit of £3B.Does that mean cheaper beef ?
Wine ?
Interesting, I have an auntie who will probably make all his money back for him
We had the same. A big part was that most commodities are traded in $USD so when converted back into £GBP currency fluctuations can really hurt. Currency always fluctuates so there’s always risk but in my working life I’ve never witnessed such a big hit in a 24 hour period and then no recovery from that hit in a five year period on top of that. We really felt it with any components we buy that contain metals. It’s shipping costs that’s really killing us at the moment but that’s more to do Covid than Brexit.I'd rather not say exactly, but it's a contracting business and the parts and machinery we use are manufactured in Sweden - literally nowhere else in the world - and the pound crashing against the Euro and increased delivery costs have cost us hundreds of thousands.
I heard a guy on the radio talking about the possibility of this happening last year sometime. He was an industry expert who was warning of the possibility prior to the referendum. Still, we’ve had enough of experts.Timber price rises are having a big affect on the company I work for.New data highlights the materials that have risen in price | Construction News
The cost of building materials in the UK has risen sharply over the past few months, latest figures show. Data released by the Department for Business,www.constructionnews.co.uk
have working class people in the north shown Their anger against Brexit?
Those that said a thank you to the Conservative party for delivering Brexit at the recent elections?
Here you say it IS a disaster that’s in the present. Are you now retracting this statement and saying it needs to be judged sometime in the future?
What are we to do ? Pay workers 4 pound an hour to compete

Yep. They're just blaming it on numerous other things so they don't have to face up to the fact it was a massive error. It's called denial.
Or hoodwinked into believing the problems being caused by it and the Tories had nothing to do with it.
Tories have cut council budgets - let's blame our Labour council for cutting services when they've got less money.
Beforehand we had no foodbanks. Now we've got 9! We've never had it so good!
So you'd rather have zero foodbanks?
I’d rather live in a society where people are adequately remunerated so that they can afford basic costs of living. And that would then lead to no (or very very few) food banks.
Come on, you’re smarter than this.
Two lovely lamb steaks from either Aldi or Asda only around £3-20, might be from currently from Oz and NZNew Zealand?

That should include learning about money properly in schools too I think.

Shock horror price now £4-00.

Didn't we lose massey ferguson and Peugeot pretty much whilst in the EU .
Manufacturers etc always looking to make cars/parts as cheap as possible , not entirely sure it wouldn't still be happening even if we were in the EU .
People losing their livelihoods is a horrible event , one that's been going on for many many many years .

Listen. Food banks are uplifting. Man of the people Jacob Rees-Mogg said so and if anyone understands struggle it’s JRM.Or hoodwinked into believing the problems being caused by it and the Tories had nothing to do with it.

Not sure it was that for Massey's Evo.Didn't we lose massey ferguson and Peugeot pretty much whilst in the EU .

I think it’s more to do with scale of production than anything else. They can produce it in vast quantities because of the amount of land available. Brazil is even bigger, 2nd only to the US and that’s the other big target for a free trade deal.Even with the logistical and qualitative disadvantage that importing meat from the other side of the globe brings? What do Ozzie cows eat?
That’s probably more to do with shipping costs than anything else. The cost to ship a standard 20 or 40ft container around the world has almost doubled over the last 6 months. I would think that stacks up too for specialists refrigerated containers coming from the other side of the world. Two lovely lamb steaks from either Aldi or Asda only around £3-20, might be from currently from Oz and NZ

Yeah tariffs have only been sold as a barrier to trade while protectionism is bad. If we do sign a free trade deal it will be interesting to see how it stacks up against the FTA the EU and Australia have been negotiating. I would be seriously surprised if they sell the farmers down the road like our government seems willing to do. Time will tell.Thats what trade barriers are for. We can’t compete because we have higher worker and product standards so we add tariffs to equalise it. In theory we should band together with other countries in a similar position so that we can both be stronger in negotiations with these large blocks undercutting us and liberalise trade amongst ourselves.
Oh wait
The use of food banks has gone up 50-fold under the Tories. There’s a statistic you can be proud of.There are food banks or distribution centres across the western world so to have none will be a recognition that food poverty does not exist.
