George Soros 'proud' of donating £400,000 to anti-Brexit campaign

The Hungarian-American billionaire George Soros has said he is proud to have given £400,000 to an anti-Brexit campaign, saying it was his affection for the UK that prompted his decision.

Soros, a former refugee from communist Hungary who made $1bn (£720m) as a currency speculator betting against sterling on Black Wednesday, said leaving the EU was a tragic mistake which would weaken Britain.

The investor has come under sustained attack since details of his donations to Best for Britain were revealed last week.

Writing in the Mail on Sunday, he said Best for Britain had his wholehearted support and that he had made no secret of his opposition to Brexit.

I would be surprised if she said she was British. Although I would also be surprised if she said she was German. In England everyone thinks she’s English if they don’t know that her mother is German. No one is that interested. If people ask, she says she has an English dad.. according to her. She wanted to do a school year in another country as it would maybe help her in the future. I backed her and paid her accommodation as I felt it would also be of benefit. I did it „for my kid“. Broaden her mind, improve her language skills etc. You voted Brexit for your kids. Coming on a bundle isn’t it? They must be really happy.
They are happy and a bit older than you probably think. They're not bothered about leaving the EU, even though they are all fluent in French. That's a real pisser isn't it ?

Who for? Not me. They are ‚not bothered?‘.... you must be disappointed as you voted Brexit for them. How ungrateful. They should have shaken your hand. As you say, a real pisser.

Of course she will if she wants to. You are Dutch and live in England, both of which are in the EU, but there is no reason to deny they exist just because they are members of the EU. What weird conversations we have on here.

Seriously, he's from Holland? No fucking way!

Great. He is 89 years old. Knows what fascism and populism can do to people and gives some money to an open campaign. Not ‚dark money‘ from billionaires wanting to open up the UK as deregulated market. Why won’t the Tax Payers Alliance List their donors? Seems to be more problematic than declaring a donation from Soros.

Yes. In name yes. ‚Dutchman‘ gives it away. But, I have never met a Dutch person with his views. Had friends in Amsterdam and Dutch girlfriends whose families I spent Christmas and holidays with. I just cannot imagine them saying that the EU has taken their country from them. My ex de facto mother-in-law from Holland ( I lived with her daughter and we had a child together ) has a Syrian refugee living in an extension to her flat. She says it is her Christian duty to take a refugee in. Can’t imagine some of the Brexiters on here seeing it like that, especially Dutchman.

I'd assumed there was a Cov pub called the Dutchman and that's where the name came from.
Shocking attitude if he actually is an immigrant.

You think a Hungarian-born American who openly boasts about having made a billion dollars from wrecking the value of Britain's currency in 1992 has Britain's best interests at heart?

There was a legion of Moors stationed in Carlisle in 700bc. North Africans. Half of my family came over as Huguenots in the 17th C. We've been here for fucking ages compared to you!

I think he is more against fascism than some economic goal at the moment. As far as can be seen. Yes, he broke the pound with his hedge fund. Wasn’t happy about that, but we had left the door open and he saw the opportunity. A bit different to the current scramble for deregulation which is about ideology as well as short term gain.

I assume this is Martcov and his love in with the vile Soros who creates misery for his personal greed.

He makes Bannon look like Mother Theresa but the fact is if Stalin, Pol Pot or dear old Herr Shucklegruber himself we’re still around and financing a remain campaign they’d be alright by him

You really are holier than thou aren't you ?. You bang on and on about how you've been here, there and known everyone from umpteen nations . All this elevates you way, way above everyone else because you embrace everyone and everything European.
Keep telling yourself how righteous you are and how ignorant of everything you have experienced in life anyone who voted for Brexit is. It'll give you a reason for living.

He is anti Brexit and doesn't give a toss about anything but making money. And he doesn't care how he makes it. Just the sort of person Mart champions.

I've no idea what your point is? If you're saying you're more 'British' than I am I couldn't agree more. I've never claimed to be 'British' in this forum or anywhere else. I have a home in Holland and have always intended to return there.

I am not banging on. I just said what I experienced. Doesn’t make me holier than anyone. I wasn’t even referring to myself.

Which is crap. I didn’t champion him. I didn’t even mention him in the first place. I pointed out that he isn’t one of the people pushing for deregulation and a free for all for foreign firms after Brexit - after Durchman mentioned him. Those are the non British sponsors of the think tanks and lobbyists behind the likes of Mogg and co.

Making things up as usual.

Like many EU migrants. Many will return home at some point.

Weird. I hate the UK because I criticised billionaire sponsors of think tanks that push propaganda for „free market“ deregulation of the UK, which will be beneficial to the tobacco, fossil fuel and US agriculture industries? Soros was thrown in by Dutchman. The usual far right answer to people pointing out who is putting money and influence into the Brexit mess in the hope of making money out of it. I am not interested in Soros and a relatively small and publicly announced donation. The dark money on the leave side is far more significant. Why hide, or try to hide the think tank donations?

Yeah, we all hate the UK. It's just you and your patriotic mates who
love it.

Which is why we are giving up control for a couple of years with no say and will end up weaker as a distressed trading partner trying to negotiate with countries like the USA and China who will walk all over us. If you hate the UK, stick up for Brexit. You will enjoy seeing it becoming a weaker country.

No it’s Dutchman throwing the word Soros in when he is under pressure. You are historically way off as usual. No idea what you are on about, just throw some crap out.

Senile and bitter. Will you be joining Tommy and Batten on their modern day fascist march against the Great Brexit Betrayal? You’ll probably meet many of your extreme leaver mates there.

So you've taken advantage of FoM laws to stay in the UK, yet appear to have issues with others from within the EU doing the same?

Name one of them?

If your are following AfD in Germany, you will be pleased to know one source of their illegal election contributions ( dark money uncovered ). A well known EU sceptic and son of Hiltler‘s Bankier. August von Finck. One of the richest Germans and now living as a tax exile in Switzerland. Fits the bill for anti EU donors. You have the grand daughter of Hitler’s Finanzminister leading AfD, and the son of his Bankier financing them. Google Farage and von Storch Interview, or his AfD speech in Berlin and you see what bedfellows these descendants of the Third Reich have in common. Some leavers on the Internet claim that the EU is the fourth Reich. Why is it then, that the descendants of the actual Third Reich hierarchy are EU sceptics?

This is your problem SB. Everything is either black or white. If you are an immigrant or descend from immigrants you must love the EU and everything it stands for. If you have family living elsewhere in the EU it is the same. You are not allowed to have any sort of view that can go against this. You are not allowed to bring up any subject that can be twisted against any of this. Your blood must be blue with starts in it.

But in the real world it is seen as good news by many immigrants

I am of the view that it should be more important that the skills are needed than the passport that is held. Close family should also be allowed to join those already here. It shouldn't be the passport held that decides nearly everything.
