Slowly, but surely losing my love for this sport. Its nothing compared to how is was in the 80s-90s-00s.
It's purely business now, played by mercenaries, its soulless.
Such a shame. Looking forward to the 12.30 Saturday kick off!
Coventry Blackburn, late 90's. Snowy pitch, orange ball, players with black boots. Compare that to the yoga retreats, warm stone massages and melodic strum of Jack Rudoni playing his guitar before training - I think I know which I'd choose.Ah yes, those Corinthian days of the 90s and 2000s, when players only asked for an orange slice and a handshake. Jumpers for goalposts, ITV Digital on’t wireless.
13K there that day, Highfield Road barely half full as usual. The people of Coventry didn't know what they had!Coventry Blackburn, late 90's. Snowy pitch, orange ball, players with black boots. Because you'd probably be charged with some sort of offense by the police .Nobody throws toilet rolls onto the pitch anymore!! What’s wrong with people
We are hardly in a position to lecture the rest of the world are we , support for genocide , Zionism, proxy wars , illegal invasions but hey put a rainbow flag on a bomb and all is ok. .Wasn't that prick Starmer in Saudi this week .We’ve just awarded the World Cup to Saudi Arabia where they decapitate gays! Here, we’ll bend over to be shafted by the global gambling industry the real reason behind staggered kickoffs, three games a week, etc. Games fucked.
Cost of living and stockpiling in case of another disaster.Nobody throws toilet rolls onto the pitch anymore!! What’s wrong with people
Single-ply couldn't take it.Cost of living and stockpiling in case of another disaster.
Starmer makes Johnson look honest. Sounds like a Henry with no suck, horrible bloke; We are hardly in a position to lecture the rest of the world are we , support for genocide , Zionism, proxy wars , illegal invasions but hey put a rainbow flag on a bomb and all is ok. .Wasn't that prick Starmer in Saudi this week .
Starmer makes Johnson look honest...
I used to leave HR, have a couple of beers to celebrate or drown my sorrows, normally the second one, then buy a Pink for my grandfather when he became too infirm to go to games.I miss getting home from HR and waiting for the pink to be delivered. There would be a queue outside and the telegraph van would pull up with a pile of the pink. Get home and read the match report.
Great post mate, I too have lost the excitement when we score, used to be raw, now you get told off for swearing.I am definitely less effected by results these days than I used to be. I remember the adrenaline I used to get when we scored and the depression I’d keep for days after a loss. Both have kind of gone now and I don’t know why. Maybe age and other things in my life becoming more important. Maybe because football has changed so much.
I also wonder whether it is the vast access of everything we have now. The fact we can just watch every game on our phones whilst we’re doing other things. I remember having to sit and listen to away games on the radio and wishing I was watching it. Having to wait hours after the game to watch a 30 second highlight clip on “the championship” on channel 5 or some shit. It made it all so much more unattainable and valued when you heard someone talk about us on the radio or if one of our games was on sky etc.
You can have too much of a good thing. And the good thing can be ruined by money and goalkeepers pretending to be hurt.
Because you'd probably be charged with some sort of offense by the police .
The football now is absolutely shite compared to as little as 20 years ago.ahh yes.. those good old days when we were shit and the ground was half empty... (pick your own year/decade)
They won't let that in. Nor a flask of tea.Just going to dust off my rattle ready for tomorrow.
Note- this is not a euphemism!
Fitter players in the model of 24 man squad's and because half them can be switched mid game, I don't by this at all I'm afraid! The football now is absolutely shite compared to as little as 20 years ago.
Footballers are fitter now and can run faster. That is it . Recruit someone who can run fast and then try and turn them into a footballer.
Going to football now is safer. Facilities are miles better than in the 1970s - 1990s.
I remember a player called Archie Gemmill running the whole length of a pitch in a Nottingham Forest shirt that was almost unrecognisable due to the conditions and a pitch that resembled the Somme . He somehow managed to do it like he was playing on a snooker table , before slotting the ball home in a manner rarely seen in today's game where the pitches are perfect.
Everything in today's football experience is better except for the possession- based dross that is fed to us week in , week out. The likes of Grealish would have thrived much more 20 years ago before the crap set in . Yet gates are up, football is more popular than it's been for decades, so I'm clearly in the minority.
Today's players are fitter . They have access to better training facilities, better nutrition etc. They can do footballing tricks that look genuinely great on the internet . They are trained , as you say , to play more versatile roles . So do I agree with you on what you say? Yes.Fitter players in the model of 24 man squad's and because half them can be switched mid game, I don't by this at all I'm afraid!
Too bloody expensive! Can only afford to wipe my arse!Nobody throws toilet rolls onto the pitch anymore!! What’s wrong with people
Remember when goalkeepers took proper goal kicks and you had a 50/50 chance of winning it half way up the pitch instead of passing it backwards and forwards across the six yard box and losing it 30 yards out .Remember when wingers put crosses in first time, and centre forwards scored headers? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Remember when teams didn’t play tiki taka in their own box and cram their own 6 yard box at corners? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
Remember when goalkeepers were signed for shot stopping instead of being prime Maldini? Yes, Pepperidge Farm remembers.
I remember izal bog roll. Greaseproof stuff identical for use in the oven with cakes.Too bloody expensive! Can only afford to wipe my arse!
There's some sort of scam on YT at the minute buy 72 or 48 Andrew for £3. 80 or something like that!Too bloody expensive! Can only afford to wipe my arse!
Hard to ignore when there is an complete commy prick running the countryCan those with Starmer Derangement Syndrome keep it in off topic please?
Hard to ignore when there is an complete commubist prick running the country
I'm just not convinced that all these methods of measurement prove anything, it just seems to indicate that like this indicators of fitness etc seems to produce the average and not the excellence.Remember when you were young and impressionable, with more enthusiasm for life and fewer responsibilities? Do you remember films, music and football all being better back then too? Even though pretty much everyone else thinks the same, regardless of their age?
