The Kase(y) for Palmer (4 Viewers)

In the end he's probably a luxury player. Looks like there's some quality there but never really delivers and isn't athletic enough to contribute to defensive phases.
He doesn't have impact when brought on as a sub either.

No end product, constant silly fouls, limited tracking back, Hollywood pass completion rate about 0.2%, poor goals/assists stats. We can do better.

Clearly talented, but doesn't have a brain. Although, I remember saying the same about Granit Xhaka, and thought he was one of the players of the Euros, so there may still be hope (of course, on a different level)

IDK it's a bit like that constant conundrum if you keep doing the same thing you get the same result, he feels a bit like that to me?

My biggest concern with KP is that he cant last a whole match. The second biggest concern is that he doesn't track back enough, especially after one of his own flick type moves hasn't worked.
A new coaching set up with entirely new staff are now at work, along with a performance director and a statistical approach to individual requirements.

why don't we sit tight and watch what kind of impact they have?

Or we could all just bitch about what happened under the old regime and refuse to accept that things may change.

Would be happy to see him moved on. Replacement important though. Shouldn’t be hard at all to even improve on his contributions.

He’s had his good games but I’m not a fan.

I've said on a previous thread about Palmer, aside from his stats being awful, if you look at his impact when a game is in the balance it is even worse. I think he has only ever scored a goal to break the deadlock, equalise or get a winner in a League game once (Blackpool at home a couple of years back).
Equalised against Hull last year no? Granted we lost the game in the end.

Palmer’s problem is consistency. He has all the attributes to be one of the best players in the league and he did have a significant impact on several games last season as has been pointed out. Trouble is he can be completely anonymous too and go missing in games if things don’t come off for him.
For me because of this I think he’s a good squad player for us but you wouldn’t want to rely on him to be key player in the first 11.

If he left I don't think we'd really miss him, or even need to replace him. And, apparently, we'd save a lot on wages.

That's only 3 less than O'Hare...

Perhaps he will join him at Sheffield United

Then again, perhaps not

Kasey Palmer has no end product. Absolutely none. Original poster mentions his performance against Wolves was sublime, but if he could take a half decent shot he could have had 2 or 3 goals in that game.
O'Hare last season (All Competitions)
Played - 36
Goals - 10
Assists - 4

O'Hare's stats in 20/21 and 21/22 are almost identical to Palmer's last season, and he played 10 games more both seasons.

Sad to read this and agree with it but I do.

Looks like we won't play a no. 10 so unless he suddenly shows he can perform as a no. 8, his value to the squad's less than last year.

I think he could be a very good and influential player. To me, he often makes the wrong decision, particularly when it comes to releasing the ball. It is frustrating how often he gets caught on the ball having had the chance to lay it off.

His overall game just isn’t good enough. At his age if he is as good as you clearly think he is this wouldn’t even be a discussion. He has played for numerous clubs in this division and isn’t by any stretch an automatic first choice player.

As I’ve said many times he is a throwback to the 70s and 80s. He has skill but lacks stamina and cannot influence games enough to justify that.

The difference o’hare drove us forward, didn’t commit needless fouls constantly and assisted the assists a lot

Is COH good enough for the Prem though? That’s our end point. My personal feelings was no, he isn’t. He was a free agent and ended up at Sheffield United in the same league as us. A team I wouldn’t consider favourites for automatic promotion.

And on over a million a year plus it seems a signing on fee

COH made more backwards passes than Palmer. The frustration with Palmer is that his end product in the final third could be lacking, be it the final pass or shot in the box.

He’s a good signing that help progress us from where we were when he signed him, but we’re looking at far more accomplished players than him come this time next year.

Which is a given and I’m sure a Prem team could have offered more had there been genuine interest. It’s nothing personal to COH, I think his injury is a reason he slowed down so much after Feb and with proper preseason in him, could come back firing.

Southampton looked his most likely destination in January, why did they not sign him when they went up?

Palmer conversely was awful in his first season here. Hes just another Viveash vanity signing who delivers very little but costs a lot.

Started the game on Friday well looked busy and then as usual disappeared, tried a few flicks that once again didn't come off, got a silly booking getting too involved in the Saka skirmish wouldn't be sad to see him go...far far far better players out there

Some days he’s motivated some days he isn’t

decent player and has improved but can’t be given a free role

only ever any good when he has a point to prove he nails his place in the team then cruises

I don't think O'Hare has much end product either. Apart from the 10 game stint last season back from injury there was no stage where I thought COH was a clinical shooter. To be honest, although he definitely had his moments of brilliance, and I definitely consider him to be a better player than Palmer, I never rated O'Hare as highly as other players in our squad such as MvE, Wright, Saka etc

It’s done now and he’ll be a free agent this time next year. May as well back him for the time he’s got left.

The Op says he should get a new contract

True. There is no doubt that he has the talent, but so far hasn't delivered enough. Maybe with the right coaching he could finally fulfil his ability.

I've got a feeling that he's really going to improve this season,

and of course that will have nothing to do with him being in the last year of his contract 🤔
