I get some shit for sticking up for Palmer and saying I can see why he’s in the side on merit. But this stat shows what I mean best. With Wright and Simms up front I want someone behind them threading balls through and Palmer is unequivocally one of the best in the division for that.

If we sign an AM this summer it could be big money, and I’d want them to be able to do this if so. If we go for someone like Rudoni or an O’Hare style dribbler, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Palmer start next season in the team. Opposition depending.

i'm still on the fence with him, tbh. no 2 ways about it, he's got talent. but too often he doesn't seem to find the right ball, or even shoot when it's clearly the right thing to do.
i'd be upset if he left, but need him to deliver more often what i'm pretty sure he has in his locker.

That's the problem, his only real redeeming quality is that he completes 0.75 of a through ball per game. It's not enough to compensate for the rest of his game.

I think Palmer is under instructions to try the risky defence splitting passes, they won’t always come off but when they do they usually lead to goal scoring chances.

Like bits, dislike bits. Tries to force the play a lot, has to do a bastard step over every time he gets the ball, doesn’t track back. But he does press when the ball is in front of him and can pick a good pass at times.

It’s a shame, but for me the negatives outweigh the positives. We do want someone as competent on the ball but more consistent and better work ethic. Maybe Mads Frokjaer?

I deleted the last post because it's not really what I'm getting at .. it feels like he fails to get back into shape often leaving gaps for teams to exploit , his workrate on the whole feels at times lacklustre and can leave us vulnerable

Takes the extra touch often getting tackled then leaving us on the defensive

I think really discipline off the ball is not where it needs to be

I’ve seen him put some nice balls in for people but even then, he’s more likely to admire his pass than to carry on moving to support the attack.

I think overall he's a good player, yes he can give the ball away too often, but his ability to create chances can't be ignored.
He has good control in tight situations, and is a bit of a maverick.
Unfortunately his form can be inconsistent and he should get on the score sheet more often.
But still a valuable squad player.

Valuable squad player in my opinion! Gets a tough time from a lot of fans on here but is the type of player we need when We are struggling to break through a defence. Tackles back way more than people seem to realise which I find odd.

My only criticism of him is the infuriating flicks and back heels he tries when we have worked a good move to the edge of the area. A simple pass will do!! He overplays it too. But in terms of talent without doubt the most gifted player once Ohare is gone. I'd definately keep him as a top quality squad impact player.

He plays a bit like he’s a young player. Seemingly poor decision making and inconsistent.

At his best (e.g. Huddersfield away last season) there’s not a lot the opposition can do to stop him. Then the next week he’s genuinely a liability to have in the team.

My take is that he is a bit of a flat track bully. He’s got to improve his game against better sides and start doing it week in week out.
