1. Robins - we were excellent under him from October til he left (Promotion form), people forget this due to the manner that he left the club, although I would have done the same in his shoes
2. Dowie - Felt under him and Flowers that we were quite a competitive side, and he was a nice bloke to boot.
3. Black - entertainers!
4. McAllister - purely based on him as a player rather than manager
5. Pressley - been asked to operate in unworkable circumstances. Although is too stubborn.
6. Adams
7. Boothroyd
8. Thorn
9. Coleman
10.Reid

Just don't think Black was in the job long enough to truly rate him accurately.

We were in the same position as now, with us being outmuscled and not being physical enough. This is something that Black had identified though. He was sacked before he had chance to bring that type of player in.

SP needs to bring more physicality to this squad, especially in the middle of the park.

Pressley - I really like him, good with youth, has the right "philosophy", but not the backing from those above him. Think we should give him a chance.
Robins - Did well, but the way he left was shit
Black - Great for the short time he was here, who knows if that had carried on
Adams - Liked him, shame he didn't get more of a chance
Boothroyd - crap football but I liked him
Dowie - Shit signings and I didn't like him
Coleman - No idea
Thorn - He wasn't a manager and he didn't want to be one, but he was cheap and the fans wanted him.
Reid - Desperately Shit
McAllister - Appallingly shit

McAllister was truly dreadful wasn't he. Shocking.

UNbelievably rubbish. That's why I'm always surprised when we are looking for a new manager that many people on here go "ooh, get McAllister, he was great", er, he wasn't, he was rubbish. A shining example of a good player doesn't necessarily make a good manager. There are loads of examples, aren't there?

McAllister was truly dreadful wasn't he. Shocking.

Three to go then....

McAllister had the 2nd worst record after Thorn then in win percentage.

Would give anything for Dowie's or Black's records now wouldn't we.

Black- Great coach.
Dowie-Liked his passion thought given time could of done a decent job
Robins- Got results, didn't leave well
Adams- Decent manager and was passionate about the club
Pressley- Talks a good good but unless time and money put his way will always be potential.
Bothroyd- Best of the remaining names and could of been decent,, good coach,, better motivator..

The rest all at 10 not one good manager between them,, if rolled into 1 you might have a decent manager...

Wouldn't ague too much with your comments although I would add that Nilsson was also an effective manager, had great regard for the club, seemed to be well regarded by the players and his stats are certainly better than some you mention and after all this is a results orientated business, isn't it?

The three on this list I'd have back in a heartbeat are Adams, Nilsson and Black.

Dowie, Thorn, Reid, Coleman and Macca never in a million years.

The others I'm not bothered about either way.

He said he was promised money to deal in the transfer market didn't he and it wasn't forthcoming.

Dowie's win % looks impressive but his record in the league was no better than Coleman's.

PL 43 W 15 D7 L 21 Win ratio 35% Loss ratio 49% 1.21 pts per game (55 over a season) - the points per game is almost identical to Coleman's 1.19 (54.5) and Adams - 1.26 pts per game (58).

As I said, can be described as a top 10 of least rubbishness.

Baring in mind I started coming to games from Micky Adams being in charge I would say that Robins was the best but the way he left alters the way I look back on his time. I'm going to get crucified for this but the most enjoyable times I've had watching the city was under Coleman (I mean by enjoyable as it didn't feel like a chore going to watch us) it was a great team but obviously our finishes didn't reflect that but i felt he could have took us on he just needed a kick up the bum by the sounds of it

I think that one of the things that comes out of this is, Robins apart, we haven't had a single recent manager that has got anywhere near the 50% win rate. Compare that with the performance such as Wenger, Ferguson, Martinez, Mourinho who consistently achieve that where ever they are. (Even Moyes was well over 50% at Man. U.)

It shouldn't need saying, but I will any way, that good managers. at any level. get the very best out of the players that they have to work with and good managers are found by club officials that understand football.

And as we slide down the leagues we still don't get near the 50%.

There must be a level somwhere that we will eventually slide too that will see a percentage of more than 50%

The problem is, apart from George Curtis (and Robins) we have never got near the 50% mark, even JH only (???) got 44%. Another thing when you compare Pressley's performance with the other League one managers then he is in the middle of the pack, I really don't know what that proves.

i hated robins when he left but now i keep imagining what might have been.

Can't quite explain it, but I always felt we were in safe hands with Robins. A very steady, no nonsense manager. If he had stayed I think we would be in a much better position than we have been under Pressley.

Pressleys record is slightly off on that
he has Now Played 80 won 27 drew 22 lost 31 33.6% win ratio

Going by that, Dowie was pretty good. Same with Robins, but he had less games, same with Black and Nilsson.
