Two leading, another two pulled up level and the US woman just decided to go for it, broke away with 3km to go, others looked to see who would lead chase and all just stayed looking at each other crawling along, nobody making move. US woman won easily other three waited to sprint down the straight for photo on the line
I've just read your reply with Hugh Porter's voice in my head - good work, sir!

Triathlon - this is good stuff.

Meant to be one of the toughest sports.

Mixed relays, never seen this format before.

What happened to the cycling? They've just been waffling on for ages in the stadium.

Whenever one sport is over jump to another

Velodrome cycling is a great spectacle.
Mrs WM bought me a track cycling voucher for a birthday about 10 years ago so I had an hour around the Olympic Velodrome in London. Loved it.

I used to do a lot of road cycling but velodrome was something else. The bikes are fixed wheel though so you can't coast as the pedals turn with the rotation of the wheel. I forgot at one point, fell off and slid down one of the ends.

Would recommend. Velodrome cycling that is. Not falling off.

What is going on with this cycling where they don't race for 2/3 of the race?

The 3 lap one? Cat and mouse really, love it.

Or do you mean the one behind the bike? Slowly building pace, building to a crescendo finish with all 5 riders going for 1st place. Also love it.

I like the cycling but it seems like they just start the same race a number of different ways. I love the one with the 80 lap race at the end, is that the omnium?

Nobody thought that neither one of Kerr or Ingebritsen would win, at the end Ingebritsen looked crushed

You wouldn;'t hear anything outside of Kerr/Ingerbritsen on mainstream media.

But inside the sport, Hocker was widely tipped to have an equal chance, should the race be a little slower (say 3:29 or above), due to his phenomenal finishing speed.

What was a surprise was that he could still be in the hunt at 3:27

It was a fantastic race.... i watched it in the Godiva Harriers clubhouse straight after finishing a training session.....

Right, I’ll preface this by saying I am not an elite-level athlete and I appreciate these runners are unbelievably fit, but why do so many visibly slow down approaching the line? Surely you run a couple of metres past the line to keep your momentum?

What a race. We’ve been on the wrong end of so many close finishes/decisions this games. They’ve been doing us so proud though

what an unbelievable time

Feels like he lost it rather than the other guy won it. Guess his legs went.

Wish we'd stop celebrating second place when we come into events as favourite though. I'd be absolutely seething.

It’s the fifth fastest time ever and he took 0.3 off his PB. If someone else produces something special there’s not much you can do.

Yeah, ultimately he just wasn't good enough. Someone else was better. Guess it's about looking what he can do in 4 years time to come into the next Olympics in the best possible position to get over the line.

Feels like we've had a few disappointing performances in the Olympics - certainly in the athletics.

On the replay he’s glancing up at the screen. Just run your race, man!
