I'm feeling positive, but aren't you contradicting yourself? Its in our hands, but only if others drop points? Whilst it is in our hands if we win all 8 remaining games we're in with a real shout, but that's unrealistic, so really all we can do is try to keep winning and hope that others falter. So its not in our hands.

3 points are a must tomorrow #pusb

I reckon 6 wins, 1 draw 1 defeat will get us very close.

Are we really capable of that though?

4 wins and maybe a draw should get us in the play offs and obviously that seems a lot more doable.

I think you're right Otis. Newport, Cheltenham, Lincoln and Notts County are all winnable, yet all potential flies in the proverbial ointment. If you told me we're going to win 3 of those 4, I would be hopeful of your first scenario.

At the risk of pointing out the obvious, I’d be absolutely gutted if we missed out on the playoffs. For our combined sanity we HAVE to achieve this, surely?
In terms of the autos, I think last year Pompey ended their season with a 9 game winning run. As we have pretty much that side playing for us now they’ll certainly know what it takes to get there. I’m biased and happy to be challenged but I think, albeit we’ve had some bad injuries, our squad is generally better than pompey’s last year.
Again, I’m pointing out the obvious but they’re all big games from here on in.

I get all that, smiley.

But it is amazing what one single positive result can do for a team.

Put it this way, if we were Notts County and on a bit of a wobble, had just lost to the team second from bottom and then played the best away team in the whole division (Wycombe) and then beat them we would be cock a hoop wouldn't we? Be on cloud 9 and have real belief again.

After beating Notts County I am sure Chesterfield now feel reinvigorated. One big result and the belief and confidence can come back.

And let's say Notts County do beat Wycombe and then manage a draw on Monday against Accrington, we would surely be facing them at the worst time.

We want to go into that Notts County game with them still feeling sorry for themselves, still on a wobble, still sliding down the table.

I would say that gives us the very best chance of beating them and like I keep saying, they have only lost 2 games at home all season long.

And as I also keep saying, there are 7 games for Wycombe to drop points. They dropped 2 last week at home against Port Vale, so I don't think it is right to think they just aren't going to drop any more points in all their remaining fixtures. They dropped 2 last weekend and if they draw tomorrow that's another 2 right there. 2 games 4 points dropped.

Don't see how we can't be happy with that at all.

Why if they were to drop 4 points in just 2 games would we feel that is not helping us enough?

I understand your line of thinking, but you’re overthinking this all.

If we all had to pick one winner fron Notts C v Wycombe, I think most of us would choose Notts County. Their very next game is against Accrington Stanley away, and their run-in is hardly the most ideal for building momentum. Both Notts and us could win their next two games, but if we beat them, we’d overtake them, and still have a game in hand.

Even if Notts County draw v Wycombe, unless we win by 3 goals, we still won’t overtake them.

Wycombe have daylight on us, Notts County don’t. I’m supporting 3 teams for the rest of the season; Coventry City (obviously), Accrington Stanley, and whoever is playing Wycombe.

They are indeed.

I would take a draw against both Newport AND Notts County, but in reality, if we want to be top 3 we surely have to win at least one of those fixtures.

Yes, IF we had to pick one winner, but we don't. We don't have to pick a winner at all..

Wycombe have daylight on us, but if they draw tomorrow that will be 4 points dropped in just 2 games.

I would take that any day of the week and it would be a very positive outcome for us.

I don't believe I am overthinking it, Mucca. I am merely suggesting a win for Notts County is going to give them a lot of belief and confidence back and that can be a massive factor at this time of the season.

Fact is, I am only thinking about tomorrow, yet others seem to be focusing on a Notts County win and then them losing to Accrington on Monday too.

I do think this game will be a draw anyway, I’m going to have a pop on an accumulator.

I’m not worrying too much about the results of other teams because we have to keep winning anyway. If we win all our remaining games, it would be inconceivable to miss out on autos with 88pts. In fact, with Luton’s form, and Accrington’s run-in, it’d give us a fairly decent chance of winning the league.

I’m so nervous about tomorrow, a win here and I really think autos are on the cards - regardless of the Notts v Wycombe result.

I tend to agree. It will just give us that much more belief.

I am only looking at each game at a time, but just have the simple strategy of wanting all our rivals to drop points.

2 points at a time is no bad thing at all.

I don't like this 'If team A beat team B, but then lose to team C' stuff.

Just rooting for every rival matchup against each other to be a draw apart from any Luton and Accrington fixtures.

They keep dropping points, we keep winning, it's job done.

I’m the same to be honest.

If we keep winning, results elsewhere will take care of themselves. I’m hoping that because it’s the business end of the season, we’ll shift up a gear. We’re now on a season best run, and both JCH and McNulty look dangerous every game. On top of that, the midfield is actually increasing in it’s output too. 6pts over Easter would be so big.

It would indeed.

One big factor for us is in being able to keep McNulty free from injury and suspension.

If we equal our current form over the whole season we will win 4, draw 3 and lose1. That will leave us on 79 points which means almost certainly playoffs, an outside chance of autos (only one team in the last 5 seasons has managed autos on less than 80 points).
Nothing guaranteed of course.

I don’t get why people are so focused on Wycombe when Exeter are also above us, have played the same amount of games as us and have an equally easy run in? They’re the big thread imo.

We’ve improved exponentially since we played Mansfield away, something I didn’t see coming in the slightest based on how we were playing in the months previous, but fair play to Robins. JCH signing was a masterstroke, he’s the difference maker on this side. It’s still a big ask to get autos from here but play-offs should be doable. Robins seems to have managed to get the squad believing in themselves mentally and believing in this run, which is crucial when it comes to mounting the sort of winning run required from us. Newport tomorrow is massive. They’re a good side at home and relish playing the top sides. Win that and I’ll start to believe in the autos.

Need to win tomorrow and Monday before I start believing.

Either that, or 4 points over the Easter weekend and then at least a draw at Notts County.

Squeaky bum time! There will be a lot of twist and turns between now and the end of season involving all the promotion hopefuls as the pressure gets to the teams.
I do think we have hit some confidence at the right time without being carried away and can almost smell promotion. I really don't think our squad is going to capitulate this time and fade away.
The squad is too strong and coherent. Play offs will come, but if we post a couple more wins in the next two the pressure will be on the others big time.
If we don't do that then playoffs are more likely. With our vast support if we are in the playoffs I think we would win them.

One further game gone and we gained a point on Exeter, Mansfield and Luton.

Monday's fixtures look like this:

Accrington Stanley v Notts County and Luton v Mansfield particularly stand out.

Notts County no win in 3 now and have to go to Accrington on Monday. If we do the business expected of us and Accrington beat Notts County we’ll go above them making for a massive game on the Saturday

Which is why I said I didn't want Notts County to win today. That no win in 3 must be putting pressure on them and like you say, on Monday they go to Accrington.

They could be very jittery against us and it's much better going into a game ahead of your opponent in the table rather than behind them. It makes it more of a must win for them and we don't have to chase the game and of course they have played a match more.

A draw could well suit us, but if they go all out for a win that could well suit the way we play and we might well bag the win.

We should be relaxed and confident and they will probably not be feeling very confident at all.

It happened in a pre season friendly. Harry Redknap got so pissed off by a supporters abuse of a player that he invited him out for the second half. The bloke had a goal disallowed for offside

Immaterial if we drop points today.
Must win and keep winning. Still think the letting slip the two goal lead v Luton will scupper our auto chance.
