No, not poltergeists or paranormal activity, we're talking drinks.

I'm sure there is a few other spirit drinkers and enthusiasts who, like me, like discussing bottles and favourites.

I've not got a huge amount of money to throw at drinks, but I have been of late building my stash of respectable bottles.

On the shelf I have the Glenmorangie 12 and the Belvenie Double Wood, as far as scotch goes.

I have also recently ordered a bottle of El Dorado 12, as I got a taste for sipping rums, and this was a decent place to start. Happy for rum suggestions!

Laphroaig quarter cask malt whisky is lovely if you like peaty malts and Costa Rican Centenario rum is very palatable along with the Nicaraguan Flor de Caña.

I haven't had enough of the peaty whisky to know how I feel about it. The Glenmorangie appealed to me because of how clean it was. Might see if there is a sample of it on the whiskyexchange, along with the rums - cheers!

Generally only drink a nice malt. Have a Dalmore, Ardbeg, Glenmorangie, Jura and a Macallan in the cupboard. The usual blended pish in there for parties too

Not a fan myself. Had a Talisker and it was too heavy for me

Zubrowka is class, as are a lot of polish vodkas (I make my own every year).

This sounds gay as fuck but I had a cocktail on holiday, peach schnapps, melon, mango and strawberry, it was absolutely superb.

do you have that with apple juice, its amazing.
Covstu, I drink it neat, but I know that the Poles love it with apple juice. I must try that. Do you mix it with juice, or use the juice as a chaser?

both together, volume of each is kind of 'each to their own' but its very smooth and enjoyable drink.

Marty, we don't make Bison grass vodka, but do make our own chilli vodka - great as a medicine.

Can you elaborate on the "gay as fuck" comment please? What does that even mean? How can something like enjoying a cocktail be considered "gay as fuck"?

Ha Ha...I (vaguely) remember the fallout from absinthe sessions in the 90's......I'll never ever touch that shite again.

I can highly recommend adding a large measure of the Jack Daniels Honey to a large espresso.......its my go-to hip flask treat!

As for whisky....try welsh!

Penderyn (Madeira Finish) single malt is a real beauty if you like a slow drink or enjoy your malts over a little ice.......its 46% too.

I sort of remember doing a double absynth mixed with a double sambuca. Set on fire in a big round glass, the barman held the straw so you were sucking up the fumes for most of it and then when he moved the straw you got the drink.

Did one of them, asked the barman if that was all he had about him, he gave me another one.

Then hit fresh air.

Can you please elaborate on the "gay as fuck" comment please? What does that even mean? How can something like enjoying a cocktail be considered "gas as fuck"?

I think gas as fuck is an entirely different thing

I've recently converted to "No Nonsense" brand methylated spirits. It has become my "go to" after work stress reliever, a tad sharp on the palette to start, but the floral notes soon shine through. What this stunningly quaffable liqour takes away in sight loss is given back tenfold in manly prowess. I have, single handedly destroyed 4 lampposts and several traffic cones in one on one combat whilst enjoying the heady buzz of this fruity beverage.

Best trick was to say we are doing shots of vodka and get somebody one of them. Good night.

I can't imagine somebody thinking "I cant wait to get home for a nice refreshing Wray and Nephew".

Yes I can, but I'm not going too as I feel that you're itching to be offended on someone else behalf, enjoy the rest of your day.

Slivovitz.

With the missus being from Slovakia, it's pretty much the token drink. Many people, including some in her family home brew their own and for our wedding present, we got a bottle of about 60% from one of the guests.

I had some really serious flu about a month ago and took a couple of days off work. Drank the stuff solidly. Not only was I pissed during the day, but it killed my flu off in about 48 hours.

That's the sort of thing we reserve our chilli vodka for. Extra blanket on the bed, 2 or 3 shots of the medicine before sleeping and an amazing recovery is on the cards.

Reading some of these posts, some of you have problems, haha.

The El Dorado 12 was opened last night, brilliant. Chocolate and Christmas cake. Get yourself a bottle. I'm buying the 15yr next.

Glenfiddich in times of trouble, Auchentoshan which is a smooth triple distilled scotch in the Irish style of its original makers. Rhubarb and Ginger Gin for a party.

Hahaha...nice. my girlfriend's dad makes his own grappa, no idea how strong it is but it's likely stronger than that and absolutely vile.

He made a coffee with some in for me at 7am before I went to the airport once. Obviously he didn't bother to mention it and seemed genuinely offended when my face screwed up.

He also once made me drink his port that was a bottle of wine he had made and opened and forgotten about 4 years earlier. Again absolutely vile.

Luckily we've managed to avoid going over for Christmas.

Always recommend the Glenmorangie 10. It's reasonably priced and will be a good little Christmas bottle for you!

A few years ago in Italy this woman from Liverpool came back from Scotland with bottles and bottles of single malts that were very expensive and were delicious.

Obviously I had forgotten their names by the next morning.
