gotta away with it on pens.
folded in extra time - probably worst 30 mins of football since Southgate took over.
Aimless passing around back. mids getting pushed off ball when getting it from defence.
Colombia powerful side who just pushed us around too much. Never a game for Sterling to start.
But don't care - Sweden next

Watched pens (while I drank my tea) Glad we won as Columbians were cheating gits (even though I thought we stopped playing attacking football for a chunk of that game and nearly paid the price!)On to Saturday. Budweisers at the ready.

And I'm so glad we chose the easier path.

That was a cakewalk. :)
Got to say, a lot of that was our fault.

We weren't playing well, but Colombia weren't threatening. Got involved in argy-bargy when we shouldn't, got ahead and sat back. When Colombia thought to play football they were actually pretty good, but we let them.

We really looked like we had never played together as a team in that first half of extra time. It was truly dire stuff. Couldn't even pass to each other.

Yep. We just needed to keep our cool and not get involved. We had the game won and nearly lost it.

I feel 79 at the moment.

All honesty I'd accepted it was game over. That way when we lost it wouldn't have felt as bad. When Pickford saved I thought we had a chance. Then I saw Dier stepping up and I was immediately back to accepting we'd lost!

There is.

What I don't get is why players do that, when they know it'll be seen.

Then again, if it's just a yellow, why not take one?!?
The only solution is retrospective action on it. AND appeals against yellow cards, retrospective bans too where appropriate.

I was really disappointed with Columbia in the end. They played with style throughout thwir tournament until 30mins in tonight...then lost all the friends they had made!

Agree. Loftus-cheek really should have been playing instead of Sterling
Southgate loves Sterling. It's crystal clear, but it's just not happening for him.

I prefer Loftus-Cheek because he is stronger and much better at keeping possession and not giving the ball away.

Ian Wright...what a model of modern Englishman he is imo!

Presenter referring to Dier's penalty saying the keeper 'got a hand on it...(Wrighty)"WHO CARES?"...in fairness' lol

Top man of the 'experts' for me because is SO in tune with the average Englishman watching

It was a disgrace at times and it is clear they don't have to play like that. They looked quite decent when they finally decided to start playing football and attacked us.

Some of that tonight was everything wrong with football. How can it take 3-4 minutes to take a free kick because of all the antics. Pushing and jostling the ref, walking in and out of the 10 yard zone, standing in front of the free kick taker, encroaching and constantly trying to intimidate the ref. They seemed to go crazy with every free kick given against them and their coach at half time was disgraceful.

Don't get the penalty dispute either. They were incessant they had been served an injustice. Didn't someone say it was nearly 5 mins before the penalty could actually be taken,

We can't be as bang average as that again on Saturday surely. Southgate has to drop Sterling now, it's just not happening for him.
