There used to be a chain of newsagents called John Menzies, and when i was on holiday north of the border, i was confounded by the locals calling it "Ming-iss", which i took to mean that was the correct (or at least traditional) pronunciation. the first series was OK as you got more of a sense that it was people that actually wanted a business opportunity but as you say since then its people more concerned with being famousIt's so fake and setup, it would be alright if it was actual business people but it's purely for TV.
