If we sign JCS I also hope we sign JCH to stop my ongoing ‘name brain’ confusion…or to hide it at least.

For a similar reason we also seemingly need to sign Liam Bridcutt so that at least telling people about Liam Bidwell might make some sense.

I think I’m ok with all the other names. Although Todd Kane is secretly known as ‘c**t Kane’ between mrs dactyl and me.

Remember when last summer when we signed gyok there was a big debate as to whether biamou was better or not

I'm quite happy with the club right now. Unless you have very, very deep pockets, going up to the prem is not something any club should want. We just need to maintain this sort of position and recruit well. Hard to do but hey ho.

Depends. Last time cov were in the championship they were going mad to try and break into the prem. So long as the club can maintain a certain level they should be fine where they are. One way or another, pushing for the prem will just kill them. They don't have the pockets.

we hardly went mad. We sold everything that moved for the first 5 years post relegation

Just wondering, are you a city fan?
I don't disagree with the idea of not risking financial ruin but surely we want to play at the highest level possible.
Aiming to stay in championship, as mentioned by slowerthanplatt isn't easy.
Would MR stay (would fans want him to if we stagnate)?
We are performing very well compared to our budget for this league - can we out-perform in the long run?
I would like to see us back in the premier (even for a season or two), partly to remind people we still exist, partly to show my kids that we could be a top league team....and the money would be handy too!

We/they as in the club. I support city, but I try not to do the whole "it's part of you" or "it's our history" thing clubs do. It's a sport.
Yeah, it's tough but I dunno. I just don't see city lasting five minutes in the prem and we've all seen what happens to teams that get sent back down afterwards.

I don't see us lasting a season at present - but MR has a good chance of not making us an embarrassment and 'might' keep us up. If that happened, every season you stay up improves your chances....and if we went back down, we have a more experienced squad with more money available.

It's a massive, massive if, but IF we got promoted I'd very much expect us to come tumbling back down immediately. And overall I'd be Ok with that because the financial gains from it would make it palatable. If MR got us anywhere close to survival in the PL he would be a miracle worker

There are, of course, risks involved:
Our better players becoming better known and pinched (though hopefully with a large fee attached)
Loss of the upward momentum and feelgood factor
Some fans getting above themselves and demanding a managerial change because we're near the bottom.

£130m plus extra sponsorship is something that would set the club up for years to come even if we came rock bottom. Count me in

This was said about going up from L1 as well. You always take promotion, it attracts new fans and would set the club up for years.

Something sisu obviously doesn’t agree with, a relatively modest investment in January might have given us that little boost to get at least into the play offs.

I get it, i want a load of investment as much as the next person but lets just call a spade a spade - we want a sugar daddy who is willing to throw ten million more a year at us with no expectation of ever getting it back

I’m really hoping that getting rid of a lot of the ‘dead wood’ in January was part of a longer term plan to get Hamer and O’hare on contracts and for transfers this summer. I’m possibly deluded.

That is the fear, but I don't think even they could find a way of extracting the £100m+ that quickly

I don’t know who longest serving Championship club is now but at one point it was us and Ipswich. Having ambitions of only being a Championship club will see you eventually relegated and a long way back as we found out

No they weren't, they adopted a similar model to the current one after 2009

Just some thoughts

£130m plus commercial opportunities ? Sounds a lot, and to us (club or fans) it is.

Had a quick look at a couple of the "smaller" or yoyo clubs and the feel i get from their published accounts( Norwich, Burnley etc) is all obviously complete guess work

TV probably around 115m
match income £6m
Commercial income £12m
other income 5M

total £138m

Against that

They were spending on huge total wages say £80m, plus maybe 25m or 30m on player purchase. Then there is the overheads and direct cots probably £5m upwards. £115m

"free" £23m

2021 Otium financials showed SISU owed 21m. Say we get promoted next season that will (assuming nothing taken out or funds put in by owners) have grown by £2.2m per season to over £25m

It almost could pay them off.

Thing is you get increased funds from a promotion run yes but the premier league money is not front loaded you get it through the season or at the end of it. So that implies a big initial investment with money to be recouped - doesn't sound like our owners to me.

SISU cannot take dividends until the distributable reserves are positive (ie accumulated profits) presently the reserves are £93m negative offset by £65m preference shares

obviously going to depend on what is spent on wages and players but to compete those sums are not insignificant.

Players are not going to sign unless they get premier league wages and a 2 or 3 year contract. It of course builds potential problems for premier league failure. Will the parachute money cover the additional wages, loss of value, loss of income? Probably given the way our club is run. Will it allow them to milk the investment possibly but depends on the wages the club is locked in to, not all expensive players can be moved on after relegation

It is by no means certain that a visit to the Premier League will fund us for years, (knowing our luck the reform of parachute payments will hit us first ).

It would seriously improve our annual finances to be able to compete at the top of the Championship league though, if properly managed after relegation. That management must begin as soon as we get promoted so that there is a proper plan to deal with premier league failure. If we succeed and stay up well that's even better.

All that said of course the team, club and fans should aim for the highest position they can each and every season. Accepting bouncing around the Championship is not an option. I think if we are to achieve promotion it will be on the back of several seasons of continued building, very much doubt it will be on the back of owner investment as we are currently set up.

As for selling current players and SISU taking proceeds my guess would be that they would be looking to take approx £2m from the first major sale and then review from there on any subsequent sales. That way they can say to their investors the debt is not growing and they can take some actual funds from their investment.

Taking into account what's looking like 12lk plus ST's, the TV money, the 18.5k Average attendance, the apparent 25% we make off the F+B etc?

Because I'm starting to think the whole 'we haven't got any money' thing is starting to wear a bit thin as weve deffo raked in the most we have done in decades this year

The problem we’ve got is the wage bill has rocketed, given last years was around 13m I’d imagine this years is around 15/16m

yes we’ve made more money but the Outgoings have significantly increased

Current longest serving are Derby (soon to end of course) and Forest with 14 years each. Then Birmingham (11) and Reading (9).

Basically neither or Hyam or MacF dominate in the air, but at least Hyam is good going forward. Clark-Salter is less good at going forward than Hyam and marginally better in the air (he is the spot above the line but two left of Hyam iirc).

I think that confirms what we have seen lately.
