Buttler batted exactly how a no.7 should and for once had something of a platform to build from.
Scored 80 of the 150ish last 5 wickets put on.
Built sensibly with the better batsmen and took control with the tail.
Now that's Test match batting.
But he was dropped on 4!

At least he made them pay, so often see England batsmen dropped head goes and 5 balls later they find another way to get themselves out.

Only downside is they’ll keep this side (if all fit Stokes for Curran) for the first test v India in 2 months.

Still far from convinced.

Unless Malan gets some runs before August he could get dropped.
Just hope they resist the urge to promote Buttler up the order. Already looking a dubious decision moving Bairstow up the order.
Bess needs 4 day cricket - nice debut etc. but a lot of full tosses. Big step up to be main spinner against an experienced India side who hold little fear of spin at the best of times.

Playing against India is way beyond him at the moment they would treat him like a net bowler, they need to get the groundsman to produce wickets for the seamers against India

mentality of English Test groundsmen is to prepare a balanced wicket rather than one that favours home side.(most other countries don't).
Bet any money we'll see at least a couple of wickets that'll spin so favouring India!!

They’ll create wickets that’ll last 5 days which will mean they’re more than likely to wear and spin as the game goes on!

A couple of green tops that last under 3 days should be the order of the day!

Saying that India’s seamers are not a bad bunch!

Lords and the oval try to produce wickets which produce five days income the rest of the grounds for an English win for this reason I would always make them the second and third tests, the oval has just been made into a batting paradise. The first test should always be at Edgbaston as it’s good to get off to a winning start in the most partisan ground

Possible factor is they didn't see much real pace due to county wickets and it was often pace that undid them in Tests.
Both frequent targets for short-pitched bowling.

Both would have faced white lightening in his pomp but as he was only at one end maybe they used their brains and stood at the other resting on their bats

oval & headingly England's worst grounds since 2010 then Lords.
Should just play 2 each at Edgbaston, OT and Trent Bridge :) won 14, drawn 3, lost 1.

How doesn’t Sam Billings keep getting in the Odi squad!? His record even at county level is nothing gets one big score in 20 and has done nothing in his chances for England!

don't care what sort of wicket this is or the boundary sizes - this is a woeful/clueless bowling performance.
going to add Scotland to Holland & Ireland who have beaten England in one day cricket?

McLeod was at Warwickshire as a bowler about 5 years ago was released I remember he had issues with a ‘dodgy’ action seems to have turrned into just a batsman now played a bit for Durham since.

England lack that 6th bowler massively today.
Willey is average at best and when it’s not swinging he’s cannon fodder.
Wood is overrated full stop.

Needs Rashid to put the brakes on here with his final 3 overs

add Plunkett to the list - always goes for plenty but occasionally picks up a couple of wickets.
just feel bowlers / selectors general thinking is batsmen will normally get us out of trouble.
all 3 quick just running up and going through the motions (until Willey finally went round the wicket)

Good game to win.... chance for the batsmen to get some big runs and be a good challenge for England chasing!

Gotta assume Scotland will bowl far more intelligently than England did and be captained better - Morgan should have been onto his bowlers about their length from early on

Unless ali is out in the next five overs England will get home
