Throwing the season away (7 Viewers)

Top half but no playoffs is not a good sesson.

Robins said the aim was promotion and we were third favourite with the bookies for promotion and considering we are 31 matches in and hardly been out of the top 7 all campaign so far, I would say top half would be deemed as a total failure.
It would not be a sackable offence after a mostly strong and positive campaign. We need stability and time to rebuild, we can't be chasing success all the bloody time, it's a long term project.

My opinion is that spitting terms like "mongs" at people in a way obviously implying derision is pathetic for someone who we must assume is a sentient (albeit inebriated) adult. Just my opinion. And that of everyone else on this thread apart from you.

Your support of MR is misguided but admirable . I fear come the end of March you support for him will become untenable to debate.

What will you do then ?

It very clearly was though. Abundantly clear that Mowbray wasn't going to turn it around and he even said so himself. He said he couldn't turn it round.
No. You were ridiculously quick to insist repeatedly to everyone that it was impossible even with a dozen games to go. If it was "abundantly clear" then the table didn't say so and nor could many fans see it. Football isn't a mind game, it's down to maths and if we'd started winning a bit sooner than we did we'd have made the play-offs.

Can you detail the success we have chased and won ?
We've sacked many managers how have supposedly underperformed. What was their crime? The likes of Pressley, Dowie and Boothroyd all needed more time but they got sacked. Why?

Because fans who have never managed a club know better?

The team changes every year.
Why do people bring this out every season ?

but the worry is, Crowds will reduce, playing budget will reduce and the spiral towards another relegation begins.
Exactly. People need to get a reality check of that.

Portsmouth:

Promotion from Championship 2003

FA Cup winners 2008

FA Cup runners up 2010

Playing in the UEFA League 2008-9

Coventry City

FA Cup 1987.

Nowt since.

Yeah I know you’re kinda right but I try not to think about it in those terms. I’m still hopeful (deluded).
The other day I was thinking about our plight in comparison to Brighton’s a few years back. I think they had it far worse than us and that in some respects we’ve lucked out (bear with me)...we’ve got a great academy that generates both decent players and revenue...I think we may make serious money soonish on the likes of Maddison, Wilson et al. We must have had some monies from checkatrade and this years FA Cup run. I also don’t see our crowds reducing much more...I think we’ve reached our core support, which is not terrible for this division.
I recognise things are utter shite but I’ve gotta think positively...not that it makes any difference, I’d still go and shout abuse at city if we dropped out of the league!

It seems we've a given right to go straight up.
We haven't, but we we have been on an neverending spiral decline now for nigh on 20 years and we all know if we don't get out of this division quickly we will be getting out of this division, but in the opposite direction.

Crowds will go down next season. Undoubtedly. It will be a lot tougher next season for us.

One more season in this league and I think we will quickly see us down the wrong end of the table trying to survive.

All in the name of stability , a stable decline .

The clubs overheads are very strained at the moment so the front line will be cut meaning non league here we come

Again..Coventry are good at that.Cannot even challenge in this sh't league..OMG..you get what you deserve i guess.

I think there's maybe a Winston Churchill quote somewhere or other about success and failure you could read.

I appreciate what your saying but I'm sure plenty of sides bounce back up at the second attempt as opposed to first time.

Portsmouth are a classic case of a club that we like to use on here as a comparison and like us seen a alarming free fall through the leagues at a quicker rate than us and stabilised and secured promotion at the second attempt I think it was. Granted they stabilised being fan owned and heavily supported in there stabilising period and promotion season but you only have to look at Accrington today and this season to see it's not all about the budget.

Today also showed the current squad still has its frailties with academy products still developing and Willis slipping into his old ways.

The rebuild needs to happen further more this summer with players moved on if possible and strong characters brought in again to develop and enhance the squad more.

Have you seen my post on Pompey?

I don't think you can compare anyone else to us or us to anyone else.

20 years of decline, no playoffs, no promotion. Not even anywhere near being comparable to Portsmouth.

We have been going backwards for many years. Failure to go up this season will be another year of failure.

Crowds will go down. Look at Pompey's crowds.

It will be so much together for us next year. We need to get out of this league and need to do so quickly before the decline becomes terminal.

I do agree agree you'd be hard pushed to find a club to seriously compare us to. I think the crowds may fall slightly but that's consumer choice.

We're all desperate for promotion but we look to be doing what the ccfc recent dna does and making hard work of it.

One of the things I dislike about forums is that you can get drawn into issues which have no relevance to the topic: such as this one..,,
I hope that BDRM doesn't believe in karma and I delighted that he has to the capacity inside his head to process his thoughts concisely if not humanely. Others are not so fortunate and you would have thought that as a society there was sufficient knowledge around that meant that the use of words such as Mong was consigned to a less enlightened era. Disappointing fella!
On to the topic I always find the knee jerk reaction after a victory or defeat really draining. We are not great for winning or shit for losing.
Does the OP believe that Robins tells his players to perform badly? Do you not think on the other side of the Willis played shit coin might be full credit to him for playing whilst ill?
I have never seen a manager send a team out to play badly or a player to miss an open goal or held him responsible for the keepers errors.
I can see that Robins will come under increased scrutiny but is it justified over the course of the season? I can imagine the scenario when he took over, it was rotten to the core, its foundations built on shit, runny shit at that and Robins has done a good job to date, trying to create a winning mentality amongst the ruins of a club.
Don't be fooled by the bling of the Ricoh or the history of our club, scratch the surface, take off the make up, we are broken and it will take more than changing managers repeatedly to fix that.
Whatever his failings he is better than the alternative.

to be fair we do have the nucleus of the squad on longer term contracts this time round though that will only be of limited benefit if the overall playing budget is reduced.
“We have the nucleus of the squad on longer term contracts”
What a depressing thought

There is an over reaction on here as we see two poor back to back performances. We are well within range of getting promoted and there are many tiring games to come with many sides that will start falling away that have poorer squads than ours. It's very tight at the top end and a couple of wins on the bounce change it dramatically. There are some tough fixtures coming up but you tend to see wins where you least expected them and defeats where you least expected them. The cup run as I feared may be playing a role in distracting our league form. Over the next 4 weeks or so we have difficult games on paper but if we hold our own and stay in there we certainly have a much easier run in than most. All to play for and I would suggest MR's will certainly galvanize some better performances than the last two week ends!

I think the underlying thought for many is that we know what’s coming and as Otis rightly pointed out, there is a very real fear that we could slide and never be seen again....

Given that consistent decline that isn’t an unrealistic possibility.....I think most of us have been more than patient for a long time and some of you need to be less accepting by the looks.

For me the last two games haven’t just been a blip but the start of our annual slide....it’s more about the nature of how we have performed that justifies my comments....

If we lose again against Colchester on Tuesday I will indeed start to believe the annual slide is here. That would be 3 defeats in a row.

As I said to my mate yesterday at the game, if we lose on Tuesday and are then dumped out of the cup on Saturday, that could kill our season stone dead right there and you would have to think the players would be very down and disheartened after that.

Doyle is always one to rally the troops, but if he is out for a while I am not sure we have anyone else capable of doing so.

Our away form is not good and Colchester can even overtake us with a win on Tuesday.

My mate also said that yesterday very much reminded him of that Burton game at home. Very similar feel to it and we had no answer that game either. That game could have helped us take giant strides forwards, but instead it was the start of us going backwards.

Not sure we can make too many changes on Tuesday. We are now short in the central midfield area and the right back slot is a big worry too.

We need to bounce back Tuesday. Have we got the heart, desire and determination to do that? I guess we will have our answer real soon.

We are definitely now coming into 'save our season' mode.

Colchester, Mansfield and then Lincoln, it isn’t inconceivable that we could lose all 3...

7 pts return needed, 3 more likely.

As for Brighton, play anything like yesterday next week and it could be 3/4-0.
