Tbf i wouldnt give a toss of we offloaded Kane. Eccles is more than capable at RWB, just needs to stay fit, so does Dabs.

I would assume if we can offload

Walker
Waghorn
Kane
Dacosta
Drysdale

Thats a sizeable amount of wage budget available

As has been said numerous times by all, were only 5 or 6 good players off a top 6 squad

What’s huh about it? We signed 6 players last summer, 2 were loanees from the season before, 1 was Moore, 1 was Enobakhare (lol) and the other 2 are Kane and Waghorn who were already want to get rid of. Gyokeres and Sheaf were presumably scouted the season before, so that leaves 4 players scouted last season, 3 of which have been varying levels of failure. Our loan signings have been good, but unless we’re going to rely on signing loanees permanently every summer, which is looking unlikely with Maatsen and JCS, we can’t afford to waste money on players who contribute little and we then need to shift 12 months later, like we did last summer.

2020 recruitment was good: Sheaf, Gyokeres, Hamer, DaCosta, Hillsner, Walker - three of our best players, and three deadwood players.

2021 recruitment was less so good: Kane, Waghorn, Enobakhare, Moore, Bidwell - one already gone, two on their way out, one first choice and one unknown.
We usually scout ahead of time anyways, we probably scouted Dacosta and Hilssner ahead of time in preparation for another season in L1and Hamer and Walker were being scouted for longer than the summer.
Bright we loaned in like 4 seasons ago, Waghorn was probably scouted for a while, Gyokeres and Sheaf were Definitely scouted over more than 1 season, pretty sure you get the picture. Basically it takes longer than 1 summer to scout a player and you seem to be complaining about that, I could just be talking out of my arse out of boredom though

Well yes scouting doesn’t tend to happen during the only part of the year where no football is played

He is now
Completely agree he has thrown his coventry career down the drain due to the lack of effort he puts in, Ive tried to defend him in the past and see the good he brings but having watched Vik, Waghorn, Godden and Tavares run and fight trying really hard for the win or a chance on goal it just proves that Walker is Lazy and other clubs fans have pinpointed that as well, he doesnt offer an arial presence, he is not particularly quick (although not slow), he doesnt fight for the team for the win, maybe he just lacks hunger at the moment and needs it reigniting but for me its time for him to go he needs a fresh start

1st June. Isn’t this when lots of contracts expire, or in other cases where contracts have less than a year to run etc. If there’s going to be an early signing it’d be about now, right?

Probably a fair bit of activity out there in the football leagues today - pictures may become clearer.

Wasnt it around the 2nd/3rd of June (Waghorn) our first signing was announced

edit : 2nd of july, but considering the season starts earlier Im assuming signings will start earlier

I would argue sheaf gyokeres and Moore excellent permanent signings
Enobakare awful
Kane did a job but ultimately wasn’t able to change his ways
Waghorn didn’t work after the first 10 games we won’t know what would have happened without collar bone injury and covid but he’s not been a success
Bidwell looked good at cb but definitely too soon to say whether it’s a success or not

You can’t say getting loan players and then making them permanent isn’t a good plan. It’s an excellent plan

I have no problem with season long loans irrespective of whether the intention is to look to sign them the following year. Maatsen was never going to sign, Jcs still might
I’m not saying that signing loan players on permanents is bad, it’s obviously worked very well for us with O’Hare, Sheaf and Gyokeres, but you can’t rely on doing it every season as players like Maatsen simply aren’t going to be available. I just think, for whatever reason, the recruitment dropped off a bit last summer, and the players we brought in weren’t as influential as the players we brought in the previous two summers. If you look at our current strongest XI it’s mainly players who’ve been here since 2019, 2020 or earlier. If we want to kick on then we need to make some improvements to the starting XI.

Walker was our top scorer in 2020 season hardly deadwood
With 7 goals and he provides virtually nothing else to the team than finishing. I still feel he may have the ability to play at this level. He does have pace but doesn't use it and he gives the ball away too much. Personally I don't agree with the lazy comments though. I just think he needs to develop his all round game.

walker could be a decent player at this level pub he doesn't fit the 3-4-2-1 we play a lot of the time

I think the best we can hope for is getting him off the wage bill and a decent sell on should he rediscover his spark

Am hearing that the deal for our main target has collapsed over personal terms. Not good news.

I dont think he has any inside information, if it has collapsed @Skybluebeliever or @better days will have said something, probably just looking to stir something
The attacking midfielder is done , I’m unsure with the 10th June transfer window opening , when they can be announced , clubs appear to be confirming transfers but not official until this date , Shipley was announced but there has been no official photos yet?
The forward is still not tied up but is being worked on , think his club are keen on the loan and has mentioned the centre back targets have changed with JCS back in contention

Any news on a LWB? Anything to the Palace kid rumours?

I guess this is Brown then with Palmer turning down Cardiff recently. Hope he gets on the pitch for us…

I'd heard JCS was unlikely to return after hearing via his agent the terms that we'd offered
Not sure if he was the main target Greggs refers to but I suspect the club was still hoping he would come back
He's had a decent season so his stock will be high
I think JCS will be similar to Matty James last year where the club offered and thought they had him , the club thought JCS was out of their range but that could change , unsure if the agents are just hedging their bets

I just can’t see it, didn’t play at all last year. Would be a massive risk to sign a player with an injury record like his after he’s been out for a whole season with Achilles injury. Is he even going to be fit for the start of the season? Why aren’t Preston keeping him?

Hes made of glass apparently, would be a huge risk, maybe a one year contract? Hopefully it's Anjorin though

They let him go early because of attitude issues

As LancsLiverevealed this week, the pair are not training with the Lilywhites at Euxton anymore as a result of punctuality and attitude issues. Brown was signed as a free agent last summer and has missed the entire campaign due to a ruptured Achilles, suffered in pre-season.

"My standards are very high and unfortunately both of them didn't meet the standards, and that's all I've got to say about it. I wish Josh and Izzy all the best, it's never personal, it's just where I want try and get the football club."

Having watched Preston this year having football ability and "hoof it and run" not being your first inclination as soon as you get the ball would be a reason for them to get rid of a player.

Izzy Brown? skilful player with a suspect attitude who used to play for a black country team? We do need a replacement for Bright ;)
