yeah I was actually good example give you that

I’m not asking for much just seems that we’re looking to make a big sale And are not actively looking at investing in a replacement, from what I’ve read on here

If we sell one of the best players they'd be stupid to not replace with a quality signing. It will happen. Doubt we'd spend big though.

People get that

We're not asking for the world

From my view its basically, we've done what you've asked in numbers, now you invest for once. No ones asking for millions, just that CB that can shore up the defence, or the LWB that can attack AND defend

If we have a shit window and start poorly that place can turn toxic quickly as we all well know

We are a week in to the window, chill out.

Despite what some say the owners have backed the manager constantly over the last few summers. Regardless of what you think of the players signed we have splashed cash on relatively large fees for Chaplin, Godden, Walker, Sheaf, Hammer and Gyok.

Now we are in the Championship even players that come with baggage are going to command 8-10k per week. Players like Bidwell, Moore and Palmer are in that bracket and for every one of those we add to our squad costs ~500k per year.

I'd much rather a steady established period in the league, grow into a position to push on rather than bet the farm and risk implosion again.

If it’s one out one in with big sales this is the peak of the squad. It also means relying on a 100% hit rate to keep the money coming in.

There’s no discernible strategy here (not for the first time under these owners) and they really are just riding on the Robins wave. What a waste of a talented manager.

We talk about this plan of buying them cheaper and then selling them on, if we don’t replace Hamer then how do you sell the next one on?
Exactly this is exactly the point. Everyone expects us to sell our best players at some point but the whole 'model' falls apart if you don't replace.

Also we didn’t go bust because we overreached. We went bust through a calamitous combination of lack of parachute payments, ITV Digital going bust, and piss poor management of the assets and opportunities of the club. The idea if we ever sign anyone again we’ll go pop is bollocks.
Agree with this, although I would say it’s likely that when Ranson was here and we signed Fox, Dann, Westwood and then failed to go up Sisu panicked and stopped that approach. I would have loved to have seen that carried on one more season just to see what we could have achieved.

i much prefer the young talented lower league transfers (appreciate they can be hit or miss) rather than paying an absolute wedge in wages for has beens like Sherwood who offered nothing.

Eric Black getting the sack after a massive win and a good run for Peter Reid was also baffling 🤣

it’s certainly eventful being a cov fan

Really really annoys me how everyone forgets how awful they are because the short term results from the team cover it up
Ther is no way back for SISU in a lot of fans minds after the the utter shitshow of the stadium wrangles and move to Brum....

But... To be fair to the owners since the return to the CBS there seems like an attitude change. Far better comms with the fans, they have been investing in infrastructure where they can. Given new contracts to key staff and players. Small stuff like match day atmosphere, commercial things like the tavern and links with Hummel have really added up to a pretty positive outlook in my book

Yeah having sheaf would soften the Hamer blow. Think he could get even better when he’s given the keys to run the midfield without Hamer there.
He’s very very good.

I’m all for this supposed prem loan signing in defense but we conceded a Fair amount of goals last year and dont know if that signing would be enough

would love to see rose really come of age this year

but he always has a gaff or a lapse of concentration

I agree with the second paragraph

my point is if they for example don’t replace a quality player with a replacement

all the hard work theyve done could easily turn if we don’t start getting results because of previous history

we’re doing well on the pitch and they need to fund that and keep the fans happy

They will replace, let's not forget the owners are a hedge fund. The whole point is to make money. In business if you make a big profit from a sale a part of that get used to invest and go again.

Even if that means spending money on 2/3 new midfielders wages (Palmer for one) the rest will go on infrastructure and loan debt.

I would highly doubt if the owners have made much if any money since taking over.

I agree that Sheaf has not yet reached his potential and if he improves the same amount again we will have a real asset on our hands. Not sure he has the same attributes as Hamer to fill his shoes, so i hope we can keep them both.

So let's get this straight. We have an even tighter budget because there is too much dead wood in the squad. Players that were given longish contracts that haven't worked out, so now we're stuck with them.

We now sign Palmer who has been a bit of a dud for several seasons and give him a 3 year deal on a probable very high wage for us.

Am I missing something obvious here? It seems like what we are doing is a bit silly.

Are we really so skint that the only markets we can shop in are ‘Championship rejects’ (Kane, Palmer, Bidwell, Waghorn) and loanees? How depressing.

Would be nice to see us sign some up and coming players from the league below or Scotland/The Netherlands again.

There was the Callum Wilson sell on fee the summer we were promoted. No real problem with having to sell a player as this has always been the case with us, but given the likely fees we could get for Hamer or Vik it beggars belief that Robins wouldn't get some of the funds.
Yep. Can accept players going, can accept not all the money being used on transfers. If, however, next to nothing is used for the squad then that's not just an uphill battle, that's scaling Everest in Speedos.

It isn't ridiculous at all. Hamer plays well in part due to how good sheaf is in his role. In my opinion sheaf is far more valuable than hamer.
Sheaf more valuable than Hamer?

Ok, let’s see if someone bids £10m for Sheaf - much rather sell him than Gus.

Just for the record, Sheaf has improved this season and is a decent player.

Gus has that X-Factor and is less easy to replace.

People keep referring to the "Big 3", it should be a "Big 4" with the addition of Sheaf.
He is top quality, on a different level to the rest apparently.
The others can't compete with him in training.
We have a real talent on our hands.
I think it should be a big 5 and add Dabo as well 😉, although Sheaf definitely deserves to be in the convosation, quality

Im still looking forward to this season, at the moment we more or less have the same team, with JCS and Maatsen gone, but they will definitely be replaced, if we sell Hamer we have Eccles, Kelly or Allen who can play there, yes they aren’t to his level but they are to the championship level.

Creative and attacking players clearly get bigger bids. Value to the team though sheaf for me is way more important

I understand the frustration and I wish we could as well but we are trying to build a solid foundation for the future. Every team around us is spending money they don’t have to get to the promised land. The situation with derby will not be the last in this division and we will be glad we have operated like this is 2/3 seasons time. Maintenance/slow improvement will set us up financially for years to come and from where we have come from is more valuable then a few million £ players.

You can go shopping at either Aldi or Harrods for the ingredients but it is up to the chef to make the meal. Likewise, it is Robins and his team that do the training and can take an average player like O'Hare and make him into something special. Of course that is not going to happen everytime but at this point in time it happens more often than not. Look at Sheaf, he came on loan at the same time as Walsh. Sheaf stayed at the utter bewilderment of our fans and Walsh left with tears from our supporters. Now a year later and Sheaf is starting to produce what Robins and his team knew he could do and where is Walsh?
Likewise, the same will be with Palmer. I believe 100% this guy is going to be another level with us not only because AV and a few players know him but also Dennis Lawrence knows him well. Dennis Lawrence is not getting the credit he richly deserves about the player's attitude and increase in level of performance. The reason, you will find, he didn't perform at certain clubs was not because of his ability but because of the coach staff around him. We play his style and you will see him blossom.

Hmm, you can’t directly attribute it to coaching staff as to why he didn’t perform, he went to Swansea under Steve Cooper and didn’t play much of a part either. Sometimes the player has to have a look themselves as to why they’ve underachieved or it’s going to end up another sorry story like Bright

I understand the need to building a foundation and not spending out of your means as a club, but the main basis of that is surely to reinvest in the team the money you gain from a significant transfer to slowly strengthen what you have on the pitch. Selling an asset like Hamer for say the 10m quoted (which we’ve in fact never had these sums) then 70% of that transfer fee goes to SISU to “recover from previous seasons” and 30% for the “daily running of the club” and Robins can reinvest his wages isn’t the way to build a foundation and stability in this division. It’s a one way return ticket to L1.

We’re unfortunately in a similar position to Barnsley in which we all know we have no depth, we have a very strong “Starting 11” once you lose your best players, don’t replace and think the squad will pick the slack up is where most are wrong. You end up finishing in the play offs one year, and then finishing rock bottom the next.

The 'Brentford model' is you buy a player for £2m, sell him for £10m, then reinvest the £10m in a few more £2-3m players who you hope will be worth £10-15m in a couple of years. The £15m player becomes three £5m players and then you have a real good chance at taking on the parachute payment teams for promotion.

It doesn't work if we use that £8-10m we get from selling Hamer to shore up the books, offset improved contracts and get some loans in who will only be here a year and have no resale value.

That's what worries me about SBB's comments and it should worry others. We can't think we'll realistically improve or have a chance at promotion by selling our best players and not replacing them properly. If we have to sell our TWO best players to be able to invest in the team that's a plan destined for failure.
