Today highlighted certain shortcomings in our squad .
1 a leader out there , as too many were off the pace & no one talking or steadying the ship first half .
2 . Someone with pace to replace Godden & help Simms , hopefully with championship/ prem experience to get us into the playoffs again . ( yes I might be dreaming )
3 . after todays kicking of Milan & Saka , as good a back up as possible for both , now they are making headlines . ( they are not getting the protection from useless referees )
4. Anyone else that can get us to the promised land

We need to continue searching the European market for more diamonds, the same way we found the likes of Sakamoto and MVE. I also would like to point out something when we talk about signings. We have to play it really smart because the squad is packed now, we should be looking to loan out Tavares as a priority.
We should then be seriously looking at whether or not to stick or twist with Ayari, i would be in the camp of keeping hold of him. Ayari knows the group, knows the gaffer and knows the tactical side of how we set up, yes he isn't playing and that is mainly because he clearly isn't quite ready but if we suddenly find ourselves with 3 or 4 injuries out of nowhere then all of a sudden Ayari becomes a player we actually need because of his understanding of the tactical side and the fact he knows the group.
In terms of signings, we need to go back in the market for a striker and a central midfielder. I think if a bid of around 500k- £1 million comes in for Godden we should accept and allow him to move on.
Kelly and Fadz, they aren't going to feature but again i go back to my comments on Ayari there could come a point where we desperately need these 2 players because of their leadership qualities and experience, i would keep hold and assess come the end of the season.

For me a Striker, Centre midfielder are priority, we then need to look at trying to either sign Luis Binks on a permanent or Mcnally. We then need to be looking at Kelly and Mcfadzean going forward. kyle Mcfadzean a coaching role and sell Kelly in the summer.

You always have to look to improve the squad no matter the current form. I expect 2 or 3 at a push in 1 being a player for the future and given time to settle. And 1 ready made 1st teamer, 1 prem loan.

Im sure we will add pace and goals to the squad and if successful, that will sadly see the end of some of current squad. With names like Kelly, Gooden, Ayari, Moore and Tavares being loaned, sold, released or returned. I don't see Robins in any sort of panic, but im sure he will try to add.

any of those are achievable, although probably not more than one or maybe two at the same time…

I know Diallo played the other day for a bit at Forest, but still he’d get more game time with us and therefore perhaps better development

Chair must be open to a move from a club looking like they’re on the way down to a club with the potential to secure a play off place, provided of course Leicester don’t come in for him too

Shankland I would imagine would look at a move south, although wouldn’t be a nailed on starter so that might put him off - we’ve looked before though, and he’s on a hot streak at the minute

oh, and no funnily enough first day I haven’t had any alcohol for a couple of weeks! 😂

Let's just scout the J-League for our next signings. Get more Tatsu's in.

Fuck it, I've done the scouting list. In my opinion we need: 1x CM, 1x LW, 1x ST. Here are some players from the J-League that fit what we need.

Central Midfield

Kaishu Sano - 23 - Kashima Antlers - 2 full national team caps.

Elite ball winner, very good dribble and fouls won numbers too. Good with both feet which is a nice bonus. Not the most creative though. Won't play a bunch of 40-yard defense splitting passes but will drive upfield with the ball at feet which Sheaf, Eccles etc don't. Has a bit of feistiness to him as well which I like.

Has had a bit of a meteoric rise. Was playing in the 2nd division two years ago, got his move to a Top 5 club in January 2023 and has just been named in Japan's squad for the Asia Cup.

Japan is really, really good at developing central midfielders, so here are two other options past Sano:

Kuryu Matsuki - 20 - plays as an 8 in a 3-man midfield. 1 goal, 3 assists last season. Left footed. Good ball carrier and high numbers in basically all areas you want for a midfielder. Looks a real prospect.

Sota Kawasaki - 22 - plays holding midfielder. 2 goals, 1 assist last season. Does simple things very well.

Left Wing

Makoto Mitsuta - 24 - Sanfrecce Hiroshima - 2 full national team caps.

FotMob absolutely loves this bloke, he's their 5th highest rated player in the J1 League, and I can see why. He scores goals and creates them as well. Burst onto the scene with 12 goals + 14 assists in 2022, followed it up with 7 goals + 7 assists in 2023. Great chance creation numbers and he also defends from the front too. Oh and he's a high volume dribbler. Literally the complete package.

The websites say he's an attacking midfielder, but he's definitely playing left wing in some of the highlights I watched. Quality player.

Striker

Mao Hosoya - 22 - Kashiwa Reysol - 4 full national team caps, 1 goal.

Pacy striker who plays on the shoulder on the last defender. Always looking to run in behind. 14 goals in the J1 League last season, 17 in total. Has been linked with Sunderland in recent weeks. Like Sano, was also named in the Japan squad for the Asia Cup, beating out Celtic star Kyogo Furuhashi.

Japan are producing really good players as can be seen by the number now playing in Europe.

Not sure if anyone remembers 'GIMOCs Venezuelan' from the summer? Well Dani Periera follows the official page on Instagram and 'liked' Sakamotos goal. Would be a random follow for him... maybe something in it?

Your list of 4 is of players who didn’t start the first match, which is completely irrelevant to the point you originally made (i.e. you said that we made our signings late). You do know that only 11 players can start each game?

The facts are that 9 of our 11 new signings were here before the season started and 2 weren’t.

But yes, keep flogging the dead horse that our business was done late.

The small matter of the play-off finals? Shorter break? The whole squad was late? Who knows?

Not for me. 5 or six Japanese players in the midfield just won’t work.😜

Difficult window January. If we have someone tee'd up fair enough, but I wouldn't go scrabbling after anyone. We are looking okay. We probably need 3 upgrades but when it is right not necessarily in a January bidding war.
I agree, but we were so lacking in depth last season that any run-in may challenging. We therefore need more players.

I wonder what this Tavares bloke can actually do in a whole game?

Interesting, doesn't seem to have crossed paths with any of our current players either. Seems too random to be anything other than a possibility.
Agreed

There were rumours a while back on one transfer being done. Wonder if that could be it? Would make sense to be able to do it early with MLS being in it's off-season. Guess we'll find out soon if that's the case.

Do Dani Periera and Saka have the same agent ?

He’s only played one whole game ffs! and scored.
Superstar.

16 appearances, most of which have been on the bench for 85 minutes. Has he played a full game? Only 22, it feels like he’s on the same route as Ponticelli. I hope I’m wrong. I want all our players to do well. He must have some talent and I wish him well.

Japan produce quality players a lot in Sakamoto roll, quick footed and direct.
Mtsuta and Hosoya are the stand out ones, either dare I say both could very interesting.

Who has mentioned superstar ?
The bloke has been injured 12 months ffs!
I don’t know if he will come good none of us do, he has 18 months left on his contract so let’s see how he fairs.

If he starts on Saturday I’m assuming MR isn’t too bothered about the result.

Love it if Fab just suddenly became really good after his injury lay off. He knows where the goal is and he is quick, he just wasn't very smart with any of it. Sometimes an injury gives you time to work on the mental side.
