Bold? What do you do if they’re injured or sent off? Sure it’s a once every couple of years occurrence, but you’re basically writing a game off if it happens.

Are you saying the 50-100 games with an extra sub is worth the one game you need it? I can see that.
Outfield player concert?

The only thing I’d say is how often have we left a player out of the squad who we needed during a game? Probably just as often as we’ve subbed a keeper.

That is basically what I’m saying. In the last 20 years I think we’ve been forced into it about 3 times, most recently when Marosi got his cheek broken against Cardiff in the last few minutes. Last time before that I think when Michael Quirke came on at Watford in 2010.

Up till now we haven’t had the depth to justify it, this season we might.

If it DID happen this year, and we didnt have a back up keeper, we are basically forfeiting the game. I'd suggest there isnt a marginal gain from having an extra outfield player on the bench to warrant the risk of not having a keeper.

Perhaps controversial but I don’t see the point in having a keeper on the bench.
Crazy not to, what if your keeper gets a head injury or pops a shoulder?
Or Wilson gets himself sent off for his blatant time-wasting.
It's not as if there isn't space on the bench now.

Perhaps now with room for 9 on the bench it’s fine, but back when it was 5 or even 7 it’s taking the place of an outfield player who can impact the game in far more scenarios than a sub keeper. Warnock did it a lot in the 2000s/2010s.

Hope so, would be a shame if this window meant we pushed out the likes of Burroughs Eccles and Howley completely. Hopefully it just means we can blood them properly.
Actually think it will give howley the opportunity to be loaned out somewhere to play regularly

I totally get what you're saying, and with 5 subs, i think it would be worth the risk of not having a gk sub, so you can cover more outfield positions.
However, with 9 subs, you can have 8 outfield replacements, which really should cover every position, so i would definitely pick a GK sub, as it is a specialist position.

Kitching on a permanent would make me forget McNally.
Is he really that good though? Is he as good or better than what we've brought in already?

I don't know a lot about him tbf, but I see he's played most of his football at lower league level, and only had 1 season at championship level.

(You could say the same for Doyle and Mcnally I guess)

I’m not fussed about McNally now we have Thomas, we need another LCB. They’re like gold dust at the minute, hence why we haven’t owned one since League Two.
