Saliba will pocket Ronaldo and Mbappe will destroy Pepe.

France have been shit but they should do this Portugal team.
I want every game to go to extra time this half of the draw. If England scrape the final it's our only hope

Really enjoying being a plastic Slovene tonight.

Never thought I’d say that.

Schnapps.
Thanks for using the proper term for an inhabitant of Slovenia. TV commentators seem to think just adding an N to the end of the country name is the right term (Slovenians, Serbians, Slovakians, etc), instead of Slovene, Serb, Slovak, etc. It's as bad as George W Bush calling the Greeks 'Grecians'.
Still, shame they went out. Sesko should have won it at the death, but it was a great reaction save by Costa - as well as those 3 pens, which were all at a comfortable height for him, in my view.

Hope the eyesight is OK after that slivovice!

Was that in the year 2000

There are always lesser teams who turn heads in every tourno - it’s the norm. Maybe Spain aside, the more favourite teams have been particularly shite this time round.

It's been very mixed but what I don't get is why so many strikers seem to be so useless at finishing easy chances like that one just then. Sesko's last night was terrible.

The Ronaldo thing carries on. Showing highlights from last night:

- 'Ronaldo scores. Was he ever not going to'.
- 'He deserves great credit for stepping up first and taking one in the shootout'.

Erm yes, he literally missed a penalty in the game. Secondly, the only reason he stepped up first in the shootout was to avoid any chance of him not getting to take one. There was a shootout a few years ago where his teammates fucked up and as he was 5th taker, they had already lost before he got a chance to step up. Nothing about bravery and character.

Are these pundits real life?

Got to disagree, I its been pretty good, maybe not a classic yet but still time.

Englands performance has skewed things a bit.

Out of interest what is your benchmark for a good tournament?

Exciting attacking play mostly .. most games feel very much the same

This fucks me off so much, VAR just needs to be gone.
That is such an obvious offside, as was Fodens one the other night. Blatant offsides but the linesman and ref think fuck it why am I going to flag it? I’ll just wait and VAR will do it for me.
Ruins the feeling of a goal being scored and the elation - you could see van dijk just half celebrating with the group.

It’s fucking shit

You could tell with the crowd as well. They fell flat as none of them genuinely believed it. Yet we still had to wait in some form of false expectation.

Romania have been massive disappointments since their first game. Looked really good against Ukraine but haven’t replicated it at all afterwards.

Sorry to jump in on this question but for me they all merge into each other nowadays. Mexico ‘86, Italia ‘90, USA ‘94, Euro ‘96…then it’s just a blur!

1986 I was very young but I vividly remember my brother's Panini album with the little chili pepper mascot guy on it!

1988 past me by

1990 felt great at the time but that's through the fog of rose tinted spec! The football wasn't great on rewatching, England were nearly as bad as today!

1992 the Swedes broke my heart

1994 no England but watched the Ireland games with my Catholic Nan. Good times

1996 Loved it

1998 probably peak tournament for me, I was 16 so good age. Decent England team. Was gutted by how we went out

2000 pretty dull, bad England display

2002 got a written warning for coming in late to my job. The early starts ruined it a bit but did enjoy the football.

2004 Rooney made that one

2006 at Uni, fun times.

2008 No England, honestly no memory of that one

2010 didn't enjoy it, England were really bad

2012 not much recollection, had a young baby so didn't help!

2014 England crap again, were some good matches. Germany humping Brazil was a shocker

2016 still traumatised by Iceland

2018, 2020, 2022 all interesting as England did ok

The last few world cups have been fun.

This has been drab outside the first round of fixtures really. Maybe it's to do with the format? Teams going all out in the first fixture because 3 points gives you a great shout at progressing...
